LEC (Little East Conference) - Keene State - Conference Realignment 2025-26

So where ides this leave the 4 orphans of the NEHC? Elmira, J.W. , NEC , Norwich.

Well, Elmira is an E8 team, and when St. John Fisher starts a team, the timing will be perfect for six teams in the E8 to form a conference. But it still could stay being called the UCHC for various reasons. So, Elmira is okay, if they want to be (I heard some strange rumors about them, and I'm not talking their financial woes).

The others? That's the $64,000 question.

So back to the UCHC then for Elmira. If I still lived in Maryland that would work as well. Stevenson was just down the road.

“Strange rumors”, huh?

Recapping. In 25/26 we will have:
East: Empire8/UCHC, NESCAC, MASCAC, SUNYAC, CCC, MAC, LEC + 2 independents/orphans
West: MIAC, WIAC, NCHA

Is that correct?

I thought I saw somewhere the Albertus was joining the UCHC.

As far as Elmira I would not be surprised if they try to find a way out the UCHC/E8 scenario. There is some pretty bad blood them I am told.

I believe if the Empire 8 starts hockey, Elmira is required to play in it unless they leave it in other sports.
Other options could be SUNYAC or MAC.

Correct Elmira is a full member of the Empire 8 so they must play in the Empire 8 conference or leave it for all sports as for AM I dont see any official release stating theyre joining the UCHC just that they joined for the NEHC next year. AM also had its womens team complete its 1st season so u have to consider them as well. That being said the UCHC or the MAC are the 2 most likely landing spots as the LEC would become way too big (and uneven)on the mens side and AM doesnt really fit the CCC geography that they love to brag about

.

Based on Russell's cryptic message about Elmira and what I was told about the bad blood between the top of the UCHC/E8 and Elmira I think we will see something along the lines of the school as a whole leaving. This is just a guess on my part. Still more moves to be made out there.

But if the hockey operations remains the UCHC, despite the rules, Elmira would not necessarily be required to join.

Like I said, the fact that hockey may remain the UCHC is actually a benefit in certain ways.

Then it looks like the SUNYAC or MAC might be the options for Elmira? Question is whether the SUNYAC would want to go beyond 10 teams.

Interested to see how some of the future LEC schools match up this year. Will be a lot of familiarity between the NEHC schools jumping to the LEC, but throwing Plymouth State, UMass Dartmouth, and Keene ("F Keene State") in will shake things up. For a bit of non-NEHC preview:

- Plymouth is at Babson (Nov 2nd), at NEC (Nov 9th), at UMD (Dec 5th) for MASCAC, could face Norwich at the Northfield Tourney (Jan 3rd/4th), and vs UMD at home (Feb 1st).

- UMD plays Keene (Nov 9th), at Keene (Nov 16th), vs Plymouth (Dec 5th), at UMass Boston for the Codfish (Jan 3rd/4th), at Plymouth (Feb 1st).

- Keene plays at Castleton (Nov 2nd), at UMD (Nov 9th), vs UMD (Nov 16th), and could face Castleton at the Terry Moran Inv (Nov 29th/30th).

Overall impression, Plymouth has a tough start out-of-conference so the team will be looking to prove they can be competitive in the tourney again, prove they can beat future LEC rivals (with Babson and Norwich), and get an 8th straight MASCAC title before freeing them from an annual beatdown. UMD has little non-MASCAC action so unless they play consistently, make a good run in MASCAC, and bring in some good recruits they might be in for a rough transition. Keene is a bit of a wildcard but will take time to find form... has a packed November, will start the new year against Plattsburgh, Amherst, and Curry, and has some D2 teams mixed in. No clue how they look for recruiting, but seems like they want to run the gauntlet to get ready for LEC action.
