Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

HUGE sweep for the Lakers this weekend, they are now in 5th place, 4 points ahead of the 6th place team in NMU. The Lakers played excellent hockey this weekend and BMW continued his solid play in net, he's only given up 9 goals in the last 6 games, and is sporting a 2.38 GAA and a .920 save percentage. Excellent numbers!! I'm with Perky, I don't want to get ahead of myself especially with a tough CCHA schedule ahead of us but this is easily the highest point our program has been at in my 3 years as a student here, keep it up Lakers!!!

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Excellent couple of weeks for our Lakers. 6-1-2 in our last nine games is something to be exicited about. After the Robert Morris games, the conference games in January will tell the story whether this team is for real or not.

Nice to see MacVoy get some goals. Hopefully we can get some more goals along with those assists he's been piling. Nice to see Schofield and Nehring stay hot as well. Schofield's play was incredible this weekend.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Sixty minutes of hockey is all we have been wanting. Good sweep and everyone have a Merry Christmas and let us hope the Lakers pick up in January where they have left off in December.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Truth Squid is obviously angry over how well the Lakers are doing. Oh well, Mrs. A, I hope Francis does a good job calling a street hockey game today! :)

How 'bout those Lakers?!?!?!?

What a dominating weekend! Other than a letdown in the third period of last night's game, the Lakers were on a mission.

Mission Accomplished

What a great way to go into the holiday season :)

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

A truly enjoyable weekend of Laker hockey for sure! It was good to see the boys on track and playing hard. Everything was clicking. It was also good for those Wildcat fans to eat some humble pie ... it's about time!

I wish a speedy recovery for Brad Cooper ... heal soon!

Merry Christmas to all Lakers and Laker fans!

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I hate to feed the troll...but really Truth? Really? The Lakers start to click and show signs of life by winning 4 straight conference games and playing 60 minutes of hockey each night and all you do is complain about the announcers. Some fan. Truth Squad...welcome to the ingore list.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I'm not sure how many of you are know of or are familiar with the "College Hockey Championship Belt" thread and list of belts but I am happy to inform you that with our wins against NMU, the Lakers now have possesion of the "Michigan Belt" and will hold on to it through the holiday season until the next defense of the belt vs. MSU on January 8th

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

I'm really starting to enjoy VanWagonnor. The guy really calls a nice game. He's starting to grow on me.

Francis A. and Bill C. are still probably my second and third favorites in the broadcast booth.

Nice weekend for the Lakers!!

Truth, you really are coming around. Way to go.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

With the Lakers sweeping NMU and BGSU, it was their first back to back CCHA sweeps since late 1996, Borek's first year as coach. Lakers were on a 10 games winning steak then. Let's hope we don't have to wait that long again.

The Lakers need to continue to play good defense and get good goaltending in the 2nd half to solidify their chances of home ice in the CCHA 1st round playoffs. Offensively, they are getting enough goals, at least most games. They are slowly getting their goals against average down in the CCHA and I would like to see that continue. Three of the teams currently above them, Miami, MSU and Ferris, as well as two of the teams below them, Notre Dame and Michigan, are giving up significantly fewer goals per game than the Lakers. The Lakers need to strive to get their GOA down closer to that of those teams.

The Lakers have positioned themselves well going into the holidays, but the schedule will be tough in the 2nd half and there aren't that many points separating the teams in 4th through 10th place. The Lakers will need to continue their good play to hold their home ice position. We have a long way to go yet.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Congrats to Ben Power for his CCHA Rookie of the Week selection.

I watched Saturdays game on B2 and the team sure looked good. I thought both Power and Trotman played really well as freshmen. I loved those laser point-to-point passes Trotman kept sending over to Kaunisto on the blue line. I hate to see the break arrive just as the team is on a roll!

BTW, the B2 feed seems VASTLY improved over other years. I watched the whole game and it didn't freeze up once. It is also nice that this year I don't have to listen to John Bell say wildly inappropriate things into the hot mic during commercial breaks on the B2 feed. :D

I haven't tried the B2 feed this season. Nice to hear the video quality has improved.

Colin Campbell picked up 3 assists for Vaughan this evening in a 4-3 victory. His current stats for Vaughan are 19 G and 24 A for 43 points in 26 games.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Lakers picked up 6 points in the most recent poll. I dont like having a long break like this right after a stretch where it seems like they are playing good hockey. But I think having a trip to Robert Morris before starting back into conference play is a plus. Hopefully shake away any cobwebs. RMU should be a beatable team if the Lakers play a full 60 minutes of hockey.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

MacVoy and Cassiani need to step up their goal scoring the second half and who is going to get the ice time with Cooper out ?

Probably Hobbins will see more action up front. Kraft might also get a little more ice time to see what he can do.

I would suspect this to be the case. Kraft had some nice shifts and put in some quality minutes in the BG series. For a kid that hasn't seen much ice time yet this year, he didn't look too bad.

Mogerfan, good to see you around again. Are you & the family going up to the Sault for Christmas this year?

Apparantly the kid is not only gritty with soft hands but is a dynamic skater as well. I am hesitant to say this for fear of disappointment but I do think that Lake State bagged its first bluechip recruit in well over a decade.

Can't wait to see this kid play up here.

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Truth, be honest...how old are you? 9? 10? 11? Surely no older than that I would hope (if so....how sad...get help quick!)

So let me try to help you here kid.

Bill Crawford was an excellent broadcaster.....the best in my opinion but he retired, he no longer wanted to do it.

Francis Anzalone...talented kid who could have made broadcasting his career and may yet do so if he wants to. One thing is for certain though, he NEVER EVER EVER wanted the job for Lake State and Lake State NEVER EVER EVER offered it to him......understand?

John Bell....don't be daft son! Did you ever hear him do an old Soo Indians hockey game? Didn't think so. Well let me tell you that there was no bigger cheerleader (as you like to put it) than big Johnnie Bell, nor could anyone ever uderstand what the heck was going on during the games......yeah he was that bad!

Paul VanWagner and the rest of the crew are doing a fine job and many of us up here are enjoying the broadcasts.

But hey, we are adults and you are not so perhaps it will be a few years yet before you actually get a clue!

Re: Laker Hockey 2009-10

Off (Friday) night for the Lakers, but Colin Campbell had a goal and two assists in a 5-3 Vaughan victory this evening. Kellan Lain still hasn't resumed playing for Oakville although I think they are hoping he can do so sometime this month.
