Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

Most expensive ticket price for UAA vs UAH is $25.30. So you're wrong.

It's that you're just being petulant about it. Maybe if you realized that this is the first weekend of this and showed a little patience, people wouldn't react this way. Instead of offering measured, constructive criticism you went " Ehrmergerd dis sucks sooooooo bad!!!1!!11!" and people have reacted accordingly.

tl;dr Keep calm and don't act like a d-bag.

I think it's funny how you feel everyone should just shut up and deal with this. Nobody is entitled to their opinion. The Sullivan Arena sucks, but 90% of the seats that don't suck, are in the balcony. SAEMike has sat in the same seats for decades, and now he's told he can't sit there. But not because someone else owns the seats, but because the AD says its not good for the atmosphere.

I hate to say this, but I kinda miss Cobb. Call me selfish, but isn't that what an opinion is? Selfish?

Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

IF the Sully staff were bullying people, that needs to be corrected and should not be condoned. The lower bowl didn't look sold out on the south side, but what I think happened is that once the balcony opened up, people moved up from the lower bowl seats. Sully staff is to blame for much of this, in my opinion. They are supposed to have staff stationed at the top of the stairs to check everyones tickets. I watched them nicely turn away fans who didn't have tickets for balcony seats. But after the first game last night, their staff was missing on the north side (they did have staff on the south side - one person- and nobody was sitting there until much later on). I think once the seat covers are in place this will take care of this problem.

My husband talked to Sully staff and suggested they stand at the bottom of the stairs instead of turning people away when they get to the top of the stairs, but they said they were instructed to stand at the top. They failed in doing their job last night, plain and simple. None of these problems occurred on Friday night when they did their job.

Look, the Wild had curtains over the balcony and only used the lower bowl. We went to a hockey game in Louisiana and they curtained off the balcony. In fact, the Aces closed off the balcony when they had attendance issues too. I didn't read any complaints in the ADN when that happened. It's NOT all about the fans. It's about the atmosphere. I can't get the picture to post on this forum, but click on the link below:

Can you honestly say if you'd want to play in an arena that appeared that empty? We need better recruits, and recruits fly down for visits. If I were a recruit and I saw the arena looking like that I wouldn't want to play for UAA. The arena did not look like that this weekend!!! It looked full and it was louder. If you truly want your old seats back, stop being so negative and give this a try. Better atmosphere = home-ice advantage = more wins = better recruits = more butts in the seats = opening up the balcony once again because that many people want to attend a UAA hockey game.

I'd love to see comparison pictures posted of the SCSU/UAA game link posted above and a picture of the arena on Friday night. Anyone know how to do that? That would pretty much say it all.

BIG typo. ;)

Congrats to the Seawolves and the "Young Gun's" Coaching staff, nice weekend of Hockey. who's sporting the Vest?

Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

I enjoyed seeing UAA win both games this weekend!

In regard to seating. Yes, I think it sucks that the balcony is pretty much closed off. However I do understand their reasoning behind it, do I agree with it no. While I think it is great that they did decided to at least keep that one section open full time to accommodate long time ticket holders it almost seems worse to me to have two small sections of people sitting in an otherwise completely empty balcony. Allowing people to sit in the first 5 or so rows across the one side looked better to me. That being said I also moved to one of those seats in the second when I realized they were letting people stay. While I did see the sully staff asking people to move it was in no way rudely and for the most part just trying to contain people to those first 5-8 rows and not asking them to move down below. These people are just trying to do their job how they were instructed to and to the best of their ability. I see no reason to bash them on whole and if there is an issue with one or two go get a supervisor rather than complaining about them on whole on a message board that they will not be reading anyway.

Young Guns, I love it. Yes, back to the topic at hand, UAA winning the Kendall Hockey Classic, and UA_ losing to the Bobcats. Priceless. Sorry mmf. ;)

So your saying that the customer is not always right? Many/all business owners would refute this statement. But because UAA sucked for so many years, it makes it ok under these circumstances. WOW.

I guess you didn't read my entire post. :( And there are many businesses these days who don't believe the customer is always right. In fact, the only one I can think of that truly believes this is Nordstrom.

Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

That's because the team was awful, not because people weren't crammed in like sardines. Nobody is going to cheer for a losing team regardless of how little room they have to move.
I have cheered for the Seawolves since day one. Win ,loose I will cheer my team on.

I agree. I don't think security was out of line. They get paid to do what their told. I blame the University only.

Just want everyone to know that I love this team. I go to every single home game. And I am very realistic. But what happens when we lose 20-30 games again? Do the curtains stay? Does the university throw their hands up and say to hell with it? What if the seating issue doesn't help things?

No I did. I quoted the only meaningful portion as it applies to my argument.

I do this all the time. Every month, I have a big fight with the bank and tell them I paid the house and car payments but somehow they lost it. They just say sorry for the error and say they will credit my accounts.

Suze - My point is that the better atmosphere has very little to do with the seating change, we had already accomplished it without the seating change. It's about winning, not cramming people in like sardines.

You never answered my question. What harm comes from allowing me to sit alone where I can see the entire sheet of ice?

I've got a great idea where your anti social poisonous attitude can sit.... Wait for it.... The basement in your mothers house.

Seriously though just take a deep breath and wait it out. I don't think anybody believes this is a long term solution. The lower bowl has needed more atmosphere for a number of years (former players have been quoted saying just that) and for two games that has been accomplished. Hopefully the attendance continues to improve and folks like you and Suze can go back to your original seats that you enjoyed throughout the years. I'd much rather endure this change than continuing the history of losing.

As for being able to see the whole ice surface, I've been able to accomplish this (impossible) feat for years sitting in the lower bowl behind either one of the nets. Give it a try and you just might be impressed.

Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

In regards to the games this weekend I was really impressed with the way UAA played in the neutral zone on Friday night, they were disciplined, had very active sticks and supported each other very well. Q had very few clean zone entry's and when they did UAA's forwards back checked very effectively. As for Saturday well a win is a win but I thought the compete level was lacking much of the game. Bailey's pass to Kwas was a beauty on the tying goal.

It isn't that he has an opinion, it's how he states his opinion. Because he had to move seats and start sitting with other people he makes it seem like he's been thrown in a concentration camp (Godwin) and Sullivan Arena security are acting like Gestapo. I understand it sucks he had to move but let's try some other solutions like other people have before we go full blown "everyone must go!"

Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

Someone who sits by us works for SMG (administration) and she said they opened the balcony because the lower bowl was nearly sold out. It didn't look like it to me, especially on the south side, but some of those seats may have been corporate seats that weren't filled.

Whomever that was is full of it, because I have photos of them trying to run people off and failing. UAA Staff even came up and tried to convince people to go back to the seats where they couldn't see the game and gave up, and then they just gave up and people came up and filled in seats where they could actually see the game. The lower bowl was nowhere near filled. That opposite side was pretty empty. I got a pretty good photo of that too.

They aren't full of it. According to the article posted in the ADN, the lower bowl seats 3242 people. Last nights attendance was 3592. Clearly they needed to open the balcony to seat those extra 350 fans.

For the record, Hackett had nothing to do with the decision to change seating at the Sully. This was decided before he was even hired.

They are full of it. The lower bowl was full of empty seats and the "extra" 350 seats are the ones in the balcony that's already open. If they "opened up" more of the balcony, why was the seat mafia swarming people with five or more staff members trying to kick them out? They are full of it. People started sitting there and refusing to leave and UAA staff gave up. I watched it happen and I have photos.

Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

Also, nobody's told me why it would be the end of the world to allow general admission seating in two sections of the balcony? Should rock concerts force everyone into the mosh pit? Give people choice. Alienating fans is not the way to go, especially when those fans OWN THE TEAM. Regardless of what Tim McDiffett thinks, he does NOT own this team.

You have photos? Why don't you post them then? What do you got to lose?
