Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

You never answered my question. What harm comes from allowing me to sit alone where I can see the entire sheet of ice?
If pack people together they are far more likely to do things like cheering and chanting together. Peer pressure is an amazing motivating factor. Spread people out and you lose all this.

Funny, it worked just fine in the 80's, 90's and 2000's. . . . works fine for the Aces . . .

Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

Suze - My point is that the better atmosphere has very little to do with the seating change, we had already accomplished it without the seating change. It's about winning, not cramming people in like sardines.

I totally disagree. The seating change has everything to do with the atmosphere! If you are allowed to sit wherever you want, then so can everyone else, and we have the problem of the arena looking empty. Did you like all of those pictures of the empty yellow seats on TV and in the paper?

Have you ever gone to the Guns & Hoses games? Because they do this exact same thing. They have security at the top of the stairs and they don't allow ANYONE in the balcony until the lower bowl is full. It's the smart thing to do. And I for one am thrilled that UAA has taken this step to improve the atmosphere. Ask any of the players how they feel about the change and I bet they'll tell you how much they like it because the arena is louder and there aren't entire sections that are empty.

Suze - So there has never been good atmosphere for any hockey game except the Guns n' Hoses game before this weekend?

In the 80's and 90's UAA didn't struggle with attendance like they do now. And when the Aces were first starting out they also did this same thing, they limited seating to the lower bowl.

Over the past few years the only games I recall that had good atmosphere were the UAA/UA_ games. The others were pretty bad.

Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

This whole argument is pointless, and is taking away the luster of the game tonight. Hey saemike, if you really have think its a big deal that you can't sit up on the balcony, consider standing on the mezzanine level. That's what I do.. Perfect view of the rink

Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

The attendance on Friday night was the same as the Aces game on Wednesday. The Aces fans (spread out) were still far louder than the Seawolves fans. It's not about cramming people in like sardines and taking away options. Cramming people together doesn't make them louder. The things they did well, like louder music, more encouragement of cheering, the on ice video and pregame stuff, THAT is what makes people louder.

We've had great atmosphere in the past without taking options away from patrons, we don't need to **** people off. How does alienating people like me and having them stay home help UAA?

And in those times we hadn't been faced with dwindling support from 20+ losing seasons, stiff competition in the market, changing demographics, growth in entertainment options in the city, economic changes... you know minor things, no need to change our approach...

Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

Sorry to butt in here, just wanted to say contrats to UAA, that was an intense comeback tonight :)

Carry on ;)

That's because the team was awful, not because people weren't crammed in like sardines. Nobody is going to cheer for a losing team regardless of how little room they have to move.

More encouragement of cheering? We discussed this. Lyle can't try to get the crowd pumped, it's against NCAA rules.

Well I'm willing to bet if they had crammed people in the atmosphere would've better. But we won't ever know that, so kind of pointless making that arguement.

I don't think that's true, and every time someone tells me it's "against NCAA rules" they never actually show me the rule. The last time the athletic department tried to do that to me, I called the NCAA Hockey office and they couldn't figure out what they were talking about (This had to do with scheduling) the athletic department at that point had no further comment (Shocking) So please feel free to forward me the rule that tells me he can't do what announcers do in every other NCAA arena. Or that it can't be done in other ways.

Are you actually trying to tell me that NCAA schools have announcers like Bob Lester? If so, which ones?

I got this information from John Hill. I don't have time to look for it tonight but I will look for it. The NCAA's goal is to promote an atmosphere of neutrality.

NCAA Bylaw 2.4

Role of Public Address Announcer
Each public address announcer should provide an impartial and evenhanded report of the event. Partisanship in this area inflames emotions and can promote poor sportsmanship by participants and spectators.

Re: Kendall Classic: UAA, Quinnipiac, UA_, Air Force?

Nice tourney. Congrats to UAA. Two very solid wins for the seapups. Wish the Nooks would have stayed out of the box, both schools may have been 2-0. The nooks will need to correct this. Why continue argue with SAEMike, his mind is apparently made up. Sounds like all the changes have been very positive so far. You cannot please everyone. Anyway, I’ve never gone and watched the pups at our tourney in the past, but I’m planning on it this year. Again congrats.

The lower bowl was pretty empty on the opposite side for being "sold out". It was also pretty disgusting to see SMG and UAA staff trying to kick people out. One guy and his son were bullied by five staff members because he didn't want to sit in the row 1 seat behind the announcers where he wouldn't have been able to see a thing, so he went up to row 10 in a section that was pretty well occupied and got swarmed by five different staff members and one UAA lady that tried to sweet talk him out of his seat. It's nonsense. They need to find a compromise that allows balcony general admission tickets in at least some sections. Right now there are no unobstructed seats in the house. Also, for the same seat in the balcony - UAA ticket $28.80; Aces ticket $17.70. THIS is why they can't get butts in seats. However, keep swarming people with staff for sitting where a guy and his son can actually see the game. That's quality customer service right there! People were ****ed off where I was sitting.

I 100% agree with you. Over the last 2 games, I realized how many terrible sight lines the Sully has. I'd rather watch the game online than sit in the lower bowl.
