Jan. 8th Scores -snow for many, return to ice for some, and "Yo Adrian!" Whatcha got?

Re: Jan. 8th Scores -snow for many, return to ice for some, and "Yo Adrian!" Whatcha got?

Well, it was a "much anticipated game". I (like everyone else) was very curious to see how Adrian would match up. I was not overly impressed, I'd call it a 60/40 type of game. The shots were a good indicator- Oswego jumped out to like a 10-2 advantage, at one point Adrian had it back to almost 30-30, then the Lakers took it up to 40-50. Adrian just didn't look sharp- passing, puck handling- maybe it was last weekend, the bus ride, who knows. They just didn't quite match up. Final was 5-2 (including the empty-netters and the Adrian goalie giveaway), but Oswego had many more scoring chances and missed opportunities than Adrian throughout the game.

The officiating was horrible- and both ways. Unfortunate for such an important game. I've almost never seen a game called so poorly. Missed calls, bad calls.

Adrian pulled their goalie with over 2 min left, scored once, then took two empty-netters. I don't know what's got into Musselwhite, he's been on fire the last few weeks. 110% all the time.

Hat's off to the Adrian fans, more of them in the stands than we usually see from other SUNYAC teams.

It was unfortunate to see Adrian start to lose it near the end, the poor sportsmanship didn't reflect well.

Two down, one more big one left to go in January. Go get 'em Soaring Eagles.

Interesting game. Adrian beat themselves to death with the penalties, especially in the third. As a certain Oswego graduate said during the second intermission, Adrian was (at that point) the better team when playing 5x5. They started off the third that way, too... but there wasn't much 5x5 time in the third. Take out the ENGs, it was a 1-goal game, and only because of a misplayed puck behind the net by Fogal. If all those penalties never happened, it might have ended up in OT for all I know. I was impressed with the fact that they skated with the Lakers for all 3 periods. They were a good team.

As for the penalties: The Lakers were getting just as chippy in the third, and I almost felt like they pressured the Bulldogs into taking the penalties. Just MHO.

One half of Ultimate Hockey Weekend down, One to go.

In my opinion, it looked to me as if Oswego carried the play in the 1st period and Adrian carried the play in the 2nd. The 3rd was just ridiculous!!! Absolutely no flow to the game in the 3rd with all the penalties and stuff. All in all a GOOD win for the Laker's.

Wasn't at the game, couldn't even listen to the game (was driving back from New York City, yay job hunting) but with the after-curricular activity after the final whistle... second time in three years that's happened at an Oz game. Happened @ Brockport as well two years ago after a chippy game. Wasn't there, don't know what happened, didn't see it, but it may have been something done by the Lakers in the line that set Adrian off.

I would be interested to know then would you say that Oswego was "as chippy as Adrian" or was it more closely related to Oswego began to get more chippy as Adrian did. It certainly sounded like on WNYO that Adrian began playing the body more and more leading Oswego to finally get more aggressive in the 3rd?

PIMs were 55-22. Take away the two 10's late in the game, and Skelly's inexcusable CFB and resulting game misconduct and the PIMs were 22-20 the other way.

Food for thought. Nothing more.

Re: Jan. 8th Scores -snow for many, return to ice for some, and "Yo Adrian!" Whatcha got?

PERSPECTIVE: Simply put, Adrian was good enough through more than 18 minutes and 45 seconds of every period; ALL of Oswego's goals came in the last 75 seconds of the period. Adrian took more than twice the penalties (something NOT to be proud of) BUT Oswego had only one Power Play goal (something Adrian CAN be proud of - in fact, Brad Fogal stopped EVERY power play shot he faced). IMO, Adrian proved they can play with the best in the nation, yes, they came up short in the last 75 seconds of every period, but for the first 1095 seconds of every period they held Oswego scoreless. How good is Adrian? We may have to wait until March for something definitive.

Question for all the Great Laker fans up in Oswego. What happened to Joe Hall (he has barely played at all this season) and Van Boxmeer seems to have been out lately?

No, Oswego was not "as chippy as Adrian"

Adrian came out playing the body hard, and got many of the penalties they deserved (also got a away with a few, and got a few they didn't deserve...). Oswego responded, throughout, by playing the body even harder. Adrian's big penalties were their response to the Lakers' response. I still can't explain Skelly's HFB... clear as day and totally unnecessary at the time.

the After The Whistle penalty was, I think, a combination of reaction from how physically the Laker Defense had the Bulldog forwards smothered, and frustration from being in their 3rd straight loss, something that has NEVER happened for Adrian.

I'm not trying to excuse the penalties. It was ugly to watch. But like Hammer pointed out, Oswego actually got more penalty minutes if you take away the HFB and the other misconducts. With the exception of the penalties, the ENGs, and the 3rd goal (Fogal's little mistake...), this game is tied, or possibly even won by the Bulldogs... I'm impressed, and can't wait to see how they do come March.

Joe Hall has been in Gosek's dog house. Not idea about Van Boxmeer and his Van Boxers.

Tough game. I was most impressed by Oswego's penalty killing, another great job tonight. Adrian fans deserve a good word, coming all that way and having fun. Sat near them and they were a good group.

Re: Jan. 8th Scores -snow for many, return to ice for some, and "Yo Adrian!" Whatcha got?

Selleck and Fox had their chances...if it wasn't for Fogal in the first and a few bounces that game is easily 4-0 after 1.

The 5 min major on Skelly was questionable.....I'd probably say a 2, but I didn't see a 5.

As Prez was discussing, the Lakers got a break when Selleck slashed at Fogal and the retaliation was called soon after.....

Adrian, very good offensive team...defensive and discipline a B- and C....as Caveman discussed after the game, some of that stuff wouldn't have been called out west....the reffs called a very very tight game.

So far this season (from what I've seen) Id put Adrian as the 6th best "eastern" team. As far as SUNYAC, in the 3 games I've seen both teams play I think Adrian is right around a Geneseo type team. Would love to see a disciplined Adrian team. 5 on 5 it was some good hockey up and down, Gunn Taylor made some nice saves, but grade A scoring chances tilted to the Lakers.

As far as the meltdown...wow...Fogarty needs some control. One of the worse displays of sportsmanship in a loooonnngggg time. But can you blame a team whos only loss "x" of games in their entire program and are now on a 3 game losing skid. Fustration is only the half of it. With these losses its now up to Fogarty to earn his pay and use the loses to their advantage. They now know they can "play" with the big dogs....at least for some of the game....now they have to learn how to beat them.

It was getting tense, but hats off to Gosek for keeping his boys under control, especially with 2 minutes left. Adrian players 5 feet from the Laker bench challenging the players on the bench....understand fustration but man. I know they were upset about the Lakers celebration in front of their bench, but wow. Very little retaliation from Oswego. Chippy yes, but for the most part Oswego kept their cool. Tried everything they could to get under Sellecks skin, and he skated away 90% of the time.

Having said all that, is it a scam that Adrian has yet to be invited into the NCAA's....nope...when they win their autobid however, they deserve their chance, but I don't think they would have been one of the best 4 teams in the west, nor better then any of the at large teams in the east were. Hopefully Adrian continues to give us some more fodder as they continue to strengthen their schedule against the best DIII has to offer.

This is all for tonight as I just got in to Elmira after driving back from Oswego and need sleep:

Adrian has one heck of a hockey team. 5x5, they were the better team than Oswego tonight IMHO. I said that to EVERYONE.

Great meeting the Adrian fans, they were a great group of people and I'll be rooting for Adrian the rest of the way and hopefully see them back in Lake Placid in March.

Expanded thoughts to come tomorrow.

A Brockport player grabbed McLaughlin's fingers and twisted them sideways. That's what started the post-game scrum in Brockport.

Also, I'd like to add -- as far as the Southern Maine-At. Anselm game goes -- I wasn't there, didn't listen to it. But, Coleman Noonan might have called David Nies' mother a whore...and that might be why he hit him after the whistle.

"Hey Adrian, Whatcha got?" -- Not much obviously. What's with the terrible pens? Frustrated your not in your powder puff league? You have to actually play a good opponent for once?! OMG!!!!!

Put that nose down and hopefully this has been put to rest for once. Your just a 'solid' d3 team in a crap league though you think your entitled to more *** kissing than that. Thank you Oswego and Hamline and GOODNIGHT Bulldogs.

Good balanced post from someone with no stake either way-thanks. More importantly how was the pre game at Greenes?

I didn't see Adrian as being the better 5v5 team. They may have had as many or more shots at 5v5, but what was the quality? They seemed to be throwing the puck at the net and Oswego's defense owned the 5v5. They got into passing lanes, kept shots outside, and really even the Laker PK accomplished the same things. KGT made the stops he should make. Adrian would be between 3-5 in SUNYAC if they joined up. I have to agree mostly with PSUChamps on his take on the game. A few other notes.....
1. Adrian fans travelled well. They had more fans at the game then Hobart did, and Hobart is only an hour away, if that.
2. The crowd was larger than I expected. With the students being gone I figured it would be dead in there. While we didn't have the usual Student Section enthusiasm, I thought the crowd did well considering the demographic.
3. Adrian did a heck of a job on Selleck. He was getting angry, and with few exceptions, held himself together better than I thought.
4. Losing Moodie hurt. Sounds like he may miss more time too. Not good. Someone elses turn to step up and shine.

Lets hope we don't ever see that many penalties in a game again.

Wish I could have made it, but had to work till 4, roads were fine it was the chickens on them driving 35 (drive 65 up 414 and 104 when I could)...got to the rink at 615 and just didnt have time. Elmira fans missed a great game..Roads were perfect going to Oswego and leaving Oswego.it was Seneca county that they were horrid...And by the sound of Prez they didn't get any better.

For all the...well..."Saturday morning quarter backs"....if you were not there you missed a pretty decent hockey team. I am not an Adrian lover, but I think they proved both sides right and I think everyone that saw them now will agree on both issues......they are not the next coming of god and other teams may deserve at large bids more so then Adrian, but they are not Brockport, Lebanon Valley of the Division either. A top 15 team probably, a top 5-10....would be stretching it...a top 4 team no....not yet...
