  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

Its a shame

That USCHO doesn't fix the issues with the forum. I assume it generates quite a bit of traffic to the website yet I continue to get server busy message and then when you can post I get several different error messages. Shame to kill this community after all these years. Anyone in management care to comment?

I suspect that we have all been receiving the server busy and other messages indicating that we can't access the forum. It is however one of many problems that have cropped up since the current version of the forum was installed. I can sort of understand why pictures can't be posted, but why can't we link thing to Twitter (X). I can understand why one may not like what has happened to Twitter (I don't like it), but that does not mean that there is nothing worth linking to there.

I think the twitter issue is a moderator choice

That certainly is possible but seems counterproductive. There are a lot of legitimate hockey entities that only post things there. I wish that there was an alternative, but as far as I know, as an example, RPI only posts its pregame lineup charts there.

The Twitter issue is 100% mod related...and dumb.

The last time the board was this bad we had one of the higher-ups tell us upgrades were coming that never did. The board had been running at 1990s levels ever since. When in joined the board in 1999 it had more functionality and ran smoother. We can't even post emoticons.

But hey I can see all the crappy ads...

Yeah, it's never getting fixed. We've been watching the death spiral since 2020 when the last "upgrade" to the vBulletin software occurred, which caused all these issues to begin with. It's pretty much been crickets from management ever since.

Heck of a long time to have a Problem ticket open with a poor workaround (IIRC, they were forced to create a new URL/site and lost most of the old posts in the process of migrating the database) and no resolution; especially one that was caused by a Change ticket. ;-)

You almost figure it to be a self correcting problem if enough people say "the heck with USCHO."

It isn't like much would be missed from the actual college hockey side of things as their rudimentary coverage is no better than the other, similar coverage that's out there for the sport. For schedules, stats, boxscores, things of that nature, College Hockey News is a far better option anyway. While they may have a little more coverage offered here in terms of weekly conference columns or similar items, it isn't as if any of it is any better or more informative than what can likely be gleaned from some of the threads on the D1 side of the forum. The quality of the actual reporting approaches that of an informed amateur in many instances, sometimes from even some of their longest tenured correspondents.

And while the content of the political and current events threads on the Cafe suffer from a little too much of an echo chamber effect (even if I agree with most of what many of the posters have to say) I do find it to be an actual, valuable source for news and commentary worth my time. I trust the filtering that a lot of the posters have done that I am too lazy to do.

Oh well, nothing good ever lasts.

USCHO doing Elon's work by pushing hockey conversation to Twitter one server too busy at a time.

Can't post a twitter link but USCHO tweets on a regular basis

Threads used to automatically close when they reached 1000 posts. Then after one of the upgrades, that stopped. I’m wondering if they started locking threads with more than a thousand posts to help with what issues the site is having.
