Irish hockey: JACC we hardly knew ye

Re: Irish hockey: JACC we hardly knew ye

Your turn.

Either Lorenz or Maday as the captain seems like the obvious choice, and probably either one would be more than suitable. I think both have shown quiet leadership throughout their time at Notre Dame. Sheahan would be a bit of a curve ball to me. But Jackson took a flyer on a relative newcomer last season, and the team never suffered the personality conflicts of the previous edition, so anything is possible. If I'm guessing, I would think Maday has the inside track.

I've heard quiet rumblings that Notre Dame has already tentatively accepted an invitation to the conference they would prefer to be in, but logistics are left to be worked out. All the talk from the powers that be at Notre Dame about there being no hurry and biding their time is just that, talk. They are doing their due diligence of course, but this is just a positioning ploy to give them an out to work out something with someone else if they don't get some of what they want. If what I'm being told is correct, the television aspects are being overstated in a lot of the online speculation and chatter. Exposure (television) is one criteria being worked out, but is hardly the only factor in where Notre Dame hopes to land.

My hope is that Notre Dame neither underplays or overplays their hand in this new landscape. For years we saw the former with the way Notre Dame promoted the hockey program, but since this IS Notre Dame, the latter is also certainly a possibility. Challenges and possibilities abound in any endeavor in transition, and this is certainly no different.

I've decided that there are definitely more than a few things in the college hockey world I have grown weary of:

1. The use of the phrase "Due diligence."
2. The ongoing silence of my team.
3. Rumors.
4. Rumors that become fact.
5. Meetings that lead to absolutely nothing but more rumors.

The summer is flying by (there are only 65 days left til the team takes the ice for their first official practice) and IHF and I are the only 2 ND posters to speculate on who will be the team leaders. My choices were Riley Sheahan for the C and Billy Maday, Sean Lorenz and Anders Lee for the A's. IHF chose either Lorenz or Maday for the C and has declined to go further than that.

Part two leading us into the upcoming season would discuss who will have the breakout season. My pick will be Sam Calabrese.

Your turn.

The seats are going in in the new rink. Season tickets will be mailed out in just under 8 weeks. Life is good.

Im disappointed that the Buckeyes have to play in the Joyce. I was looking forward to seeing a game in that new building and now i dont think i will. Ohio State may not go to ND next year and being that the two team wont be in the same conference after next season i may not get to see ohio state play in the new building.

Re: Irish hockey: JACC we hardly knew ye

I don't see how we're behind Miami in this poll. Notre Dame was four points better than Miami in the CCHA, and advanced out of the northeast regional while the Redhawks lost to No Hardware. Andy Miele and Carter Camper are not returning while Notre Dame didn't lose nearly as much with only four seniors departing. I know Miami's freshman class is supposed to be good, but I don't think it's that special without Connor Murphy.

You are correct, except you forgot to mention Miami also lost Pat Cannone who, in my opinion, was the glue for Miami up front. I really have no idea why Miami would be rated so highly, even with Murphy. ND should be #1 in the league and possibly nationally, IMO.

Who would have thought a Notre Dame team, after its poor 9th place season in 2009-10 and losing players like Cole, Ruth, Palmieri and Tinordi, would finish ahead of Miami in 2010-11 in both the CCHA Regular Season and NCAA Tournament? Especially when that Miami team was coming off two straight Frozen Four appearances in 2009 and 2010 and returning most players.

While I don't agree with it, I have Notre Dame 1 and Miami 2 in the 2011-12 CCHA (and Notre Dame #2 nationally), it is certainly possible with Miami's senior leadership, depth in goal and on defense, and the offensive potential of the freshmen forwards.

Notre Dame is an easy preseason top 4 with no defections this summer (Sheahan, Lee).

While most of us were hopeful 2009-10 was just a blip, some of these players not being around did not concern most of the Irish faithful. Tinordi not showing up didn't bother me at all, and Palmieri leaving for other opportunities was seen by many as addition by subtraction. The early losses of Cole and Ruth left some holes along the blueline that did have us concerned, though. A Gut check season from Lavin (who played hurt much of the season), a stellar award winning junior season effort from Lorenz, as well as Sam Calabrese bouncing back from a severely truncated freshman season helped lessen those losses.

Lee and Sheahan aren't going anywhere. And while pre-season predictions sometimes blow up in our faces, Notre Dame certainly won't sneak up on anyone this year.

Re: Irish hockey: JACC we hardly knew ye

Former ND standout/volunteer coach Mike McNeill and new volunteer coach Jason Nightingale (a Laker grad) are having a hockey boot camp for newbies and those who want to work on skills. Clinics run from 8/16-9/7 and are $10 a session. The clinics are a great way to learn and improve skills and meet the newest member of ND's coaching staff.

Re: Irish hockey: The WCHA is Calling...

Hi all -
I have a game worn jersey of former Irish goalie David Brown for sale so I figured I would offer it up here. The jersey is from David's 2009-10 season with the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL after he played more than 110 games during his time in South Bend. The jersey is $225 shipped (within the US). If you are interested feel free to PM or email me at info@johnsonsjerseys.net and of course, trades for college game worn jerseys are always considered!
Also enjoy the new seats look nice. We Tech fans would like to come down for some road conference games, so send in your WCHA application.

Check out the shamrock template and the jumbotron, which of course will not be resting on the floor come gametime! My seats are in and covered to keep the dust off. :p

2 months.

Re: Irish hockey: JACC we hardly knew ye

Hrm, Coach broke his promise that he wouldn't set foot in Compton until it was done and ready for move-in. That said, I can't imagine a better person to serve as a guide for a walk-through tour (pretty much 10 minutes of facilities porn, totally worth a look):

I'm definitely jealous of those who get to watch hockey and work in the new home of Irish hockey. Even years after it was announced, and all these months after it was started, I still can hardly believe the new arena ... it's like it's a mirage in the blue curtain desert or something.

I'd bet that broken promise was athletic department-controlled and media-driven. And I bet he's there for the next video tour in a month. And the sod is arriving as I type.

Now comes the over/under on who will be the first opponent in the new place... RPI? UA(F)?

Also, Stephen Johns and T.J. Tynan survived the first cut.
