"Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

Re: "Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

Oops, I put mine into my spreadsheet but, after looking back at my posts, I apparently didn't post them to the thread... senility is really setting in... or is it just CRS!!!:o

I called it the same way as BigBlue2Ba except I took RIT over RMU.
Since I didn't post them, by my own rules, I don't get to count them... Bummer!!!

Here are the picks I put in my spreadsheet. The countable ones are in BLUE:

Th - Fr ==> RPI @ UAH (2) - RPI sweep
Th - Fr ==> AFA @ Bentley (2) - Split
Th =====> RIT @ RMU (1) - RIT
Th =====> Merrimack @ Army (1) - Merrimack
Fr =====> FSU @ BSU (1) - BSU
Sa =====> Union @ BSU (1) - BSU
Sa =====> Army @ Harvard (1) - Harvard
Su =====> OSU @ Army (1) - OSU

I don't think it's senility, but I won't speculate on what it might be.

That's too bad, because you would have been the only person to pick RIT to win. Everyone else had Bobby Mo to win. I've updated to include the three countable games on my sheet.

Re: "Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

Schooley was very, very unhappy on the Twitters last night about the loss.

I bet. I really was quite surprised by that. Not that RIT is a bad team, far from it, but I really wasn't expecting Bobby Mo to under-preform which is more of what happened by the bits and pieces I've picked up.

Re: "Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

I'm not so sure Bobby Mo under performed against RIT as I think those two teams are very equal. RoMo won at RIT by, I think, the same score. (Note here that I'm too lazy to verify that) This is just revenge payback by the Tigers.

Re: "Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

OSU @ Army- OSU please. Sorry to have missed picking... was in palm tree heaven for a week.

Re: "Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

Okay boys and girls... Since we (former CHA'ers) no longer have a league to pick, and there are some who want to pick UAH's games anyway, I present this thread as a way to determine what we are going to do this season. It has been suggested that since UAH is in a "league" of one, that in order to have a little variety to the picks, we should offer all former CHA teams as subjects of the pick'em. All former CHA teams are the following: Army, Air Force, Bemidji, Findlay, Niagara, Robert Morris, Wayne State, and UAH. Since Findlay and Wayne State are defunct programs we will have six teams in which to follow and pick outcomes. The alternative is to pick only UAH games. You guys and gals tell me which you want to do by your picks. So, with all that in mind, here are this week's choices of former CHA teams:

The Rules:
1. Anyone can play.
2. You may pick:
==>Single Games = Win, Lose, (specify the team) or a Tie
==>Series (2 games) = Win & Tie, A team Sweep, (specify the team) or a Split or Ties (2)
3. Picks must be in by the "Drop of the Puck" time for any and all games.
4. To be declared a "Winner" for the year you must pick 75% of the "countable" games posted here. I do not count Exhibition games as "countable" games. Only NCAA counted games are "countable".
5. Any other rules that are suggested, accepted, and posted here.

I have an inquiry Doug, for the weekly winner, is there a minimum percentage of games that must be picked to be eligible for weekly bragging rights? We generally go based on percentage, but that assumes we're all picking the same number of games. I bring this up because there is a very real possibility of the following scenario:

Person A: 9-1 (picked all 10 games)
Person B: 3-0 (only picked Saturday/Sunday)
Person C: 1-0 (only picked Sunday)

Persons B & C would have a 1.000 rating which is higher than a 0.900, but the risk was much lower since they picked significantly fewer games. Shall we just expand the 75% rule? It seems the most consistent application of the rules.

The 75% rule applies to the number (read that as percentage) of games one must have picked to be declared the champion for the season, at the end of the season. The weekly bragging rights was something that I did just to recognize the best picker(s) for that week. I don't do it based on any kind of formula other than who got the most "right" for any given week. Therefore, in my book, a 9-1 picker trumps a 3-0 picker any day... so far it looks like I'd have gone 9-1 had I remembered to post my picks too. Where I picked up one on the RIT win I lost it on the AFA sweep. Oh well...

Re: "Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

Well, I hope everyone was treated kindly by Santa and all will have a Happy New Year. I also hope everyone has a chance to keep and make their New Year's Resolutions come true. I know I have already kept mine... years ago I resolved to never make another New Year's Resolution... so far it's been easy to keep! :D:D:D

BTW - For anyone interested in the outcome of that Bonus game between the Russian Junior team and Army... well, Army got stomped 11-4! :eek:

Everyone is in action this week and all of them are 2-game series so break out the brooms, do the splits, and pick out your ties this week. Only one person gets the "Top Picker" bragging rights for this week. There would have been two of them but I foolishly forgot to post my picks to the thread. When that oversight was pointed that out to me there were only three games left to pick. I guess I spent too much time at the dinner table and not enough on the computer... the bathroom scale proves it! Oh well, live and learn, huh? :o
