"Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

Re: "Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

Based on this and my recount...

21st Century Schizoid Man. Since you agreed with me last week when he was 45-28, adding his 5-5 week I get 50-33... as does my spreadsheet. Recheck your sheet?

Same here - he was 37-36 last week, add 6-4 to it and I get 43-40. Recheck your sheet?

I have 21st Century Schizoid Man at 37-27 after week 7 which agrees with your numbers. He went 7-2 in week 8 missing only the Colgate/Niagara hold-over pick and the Army upset of Niagara. That moves him to 44-29, and a 5-5 record in week 9 moves to 49-34.

I have wsp67326 as 31-33 after week 7, which agrees with your post. He went 5-4 in week 8 (including the Colgate/Niagara game) which moves him to 36-37. Then a 6-4 record in week 9 moves him to 42-41.

So it's week 7 that agrees completely and the error must be in week 8. Which is probably a function of the fact I track through the end of the week, rather than updating prior to holdover games so I tend not to double check numbers as closely those weeks since I know they'll be off by 1 automatically.

I'll go back and make sure I didn't transcribe one of the games incorrectly for the players.

Re: "Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

Ahh! I guess I read that wrong,I thought he meant that you slipped in an extra win. Actually, being as far down the list as I am, I was not really paying close attention. In any event, With a "sorry" and "thanks" to JYoung, I'll re-direct my comment to you, Douglas. (Remember - it is always more fun to bi-itch!) ;)

Naw, I said he gave you the extra win, not himself. :-P

I'm not doing this for any particular reasons, it's just something to keep me occupied and playing with numbers. I'm one of those weirdos who likes playing with budgets and spreadsheets as a relaxation technique.

As for getting it right, it's only fair to make sure everyone is counted correctly. Besides, it's not like I'm going to win this. I'm only hoping to stay over .500 for the season. I'm lousy at this game because I over-analyze numbers and that leads to iffy picks since it' not all about the numbers no matter what some sports stats junkies may say.

Re: "Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

Y'all had that in 2008 with your Senator, too.

GFM

Yeah, but in 2008, there was some merit to some of the challenged ballots. This year, the Republicans in some recount areas are challenging any ballot with writing on it. So if you wrote in a vote for your local sheriff, your vote is being challenged in the Governor's race, even though it is clear what the voter intent was in that race.

Re: "Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

I thought one of the challenges was that in some voting districts there was more votes cast than the number of voters recorded. Or is that okay in Minnesota? I guess it worked in 2008.

Fool me once ...

That is probably going to be the basis of the court case. But as far as the recount goes, that isn't factoring in.

All the experts are stating that there will be little merit to the court case. The number of voting receipts matched the number of ballots, which has been standard operating procedure for years for reconciling the count. Now the challenge is that the receipt/ballot count doesn't match the number of people actually signed into the voting log. With the Republican having to make up almost 9000 votes, even if they do reconcile the vote count and throw out the difference (which are selected by a random draw), odds are he won't make up the 9000 vote margin.

Have I mentioned that I hate political parties? What ever happened to voting on the issues at hand rather than voting for special interests lining the pockets?

Re: "Independent" Pick'em - Gotta have something to do...

Too bad that our Cody Campbell is still awaiting his eligibility appeal. Then ours could score on yours.

Did Burky run off another goalie? ;) Nah, that kid is going to be something special for you.

Actually, we lost Chuey (freshman Carsen Chubak) for the season with a torn ACL. He got run by a Colgate player a couple weeks back. He had just nailed down the number one job ... good 'keeper, great competitor.

And I have no problem whatsoever if he does run off one of the two remaining goalies (that would be the underachieving one).

I give, I give!!! :o You win... I made the same mistake on both players in Week 8 which gave them an undeserved win which I have since corrected on the original Week 9 "Standings" post.

Good thing there is an accountant checking the math of an engineer... and I thought that was my long suit...:o:rolleyes:;)

I make no claims at being better at math, I'm just providing the redundancy service which any good accountant or engineer should appreciate since even the best systems (or people) occasionally fail. Besides, I think this is more a function me, than my profession at this point.

Bonk? Yikes ... I'm not sure if there was ever a time when we really did need him. :D:eek:
