Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Small aside:

You know, I understand most of his list of "conservative boogeymen", but I don't get how illegal immigrants fit in.

You cannot reasonably say that every single Muslim is out to get you. The crusade of the far right to combat homosexuality, Hollywood, the UN, and various minorities is mostly an excercise in absurdity and random hatred.

Look at the posts and links...never really any policy recommendations. In fact conservative posts are frequently criticisms of government policy which ironically more often than not infer the need for greatly increased US government interference and/or spending.

Uh, how is securing the border with adequate resources in Arizona, as has been provided in California already, not a policy recommendations. Just because you don't support a secure border doesn't mean someone else suggesting that we secure it isn't a policy recommendation. And of course there's lots of detail on how people suggest we do that if a person is inclined to pay attention.

Bob, the sad truth is people care about California (and Texas) far more than Arizona (and New Mexico). Why spend a zillion dollars to secure a desert border in the middle of nowhere for a state with nothing in it save the Grand Canyon?

You've never heard of gems like Canyon de Chelly or the red rocks of Sedona? You really should get out of your hut once in awhile and see the world.

And of course it'd be messy to try to give away Arizona, with all sorts of jurisdictions holding land in the state, including a good chunk of the state being tribal land, and the feds have all sorts of commitments to those areas. But, in a way you've struck a vein of truth, as the feds are gradually giving back the federally held lands in Arizona to Mexico via a set of policies that doesn't control these lands or protect American citizens who would venture onto United States soil in those areas.

I've been to Sedona, and while its nice, its a worthwhile trade off to ship you and your fellow complainers out of this country in exchange for them reclaiming the territory. :D

Never been to Canyon De Chelly? Your loss. It's a beautiful canyon up on the Navajo Reservation, and not a lot of people go see it. I know people who would rather go there than the Grand Canyon. Hey, maybe you can go down sometime and see the wildflowers in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument? The organ pipe cactus area really fabulous. Just stay out of the 2/3 of the monument permanently closed due to illegals, and get out of the other part of the park by dusk.

None of that matters, Bob. Just shut up and let Rover and the rest of the mouth-breathers do whatever they want. Welcome to the Idiocracy.

You just have to have fun with Rover, rather than taking anything he says seriously.

Because there's never any posts from you for specific money neutral policies or legislation that addresses the illegals problem...such as enhancing the crack down on companies breaking the law by hiring illegals. If as you put it 'the administration doesn't care as its misspending the money'...you never post what you would do differently with the same funding.

But after yet another $600 million, you only criticize and infer you want to throw more money at the problem.

I'm a lot more specific in my comments than your incessant moaning about spending any money to have an even marginally controlled southern border in Arizona. Arizona was pretty unanimous (including virtually all Dems) that the $600 million was a step in the right direction, but only a step. And of course, for political purposes a good chunk of that money goes to politically adept California and New Mexico, even though they don't have anywhere near the problems Arizona does. There are a number of good ideas out there that I think would make a huge difference. Probably the most noteworthy is the 10-point plan put out by Arizona's two senators:

But, hey, when someone like you doesn't want to secure the border, discussion of how best to do it doesn't generally go anywhere. You just keep yammering incessantly that we shouldn't spend another federal penny on this and that it's just pork, and other nonsense that is the equivalent of an ostrich sticking its head in the ground.

whoa. Arizona is an amazing beautiful state. there is a whole bunch of great stuff to see and do in Arizona. I had no idea parts of the Organ Pipe Natl Park were closed! we were down there many years ago.

I think you solved the whole problem right here. By "enhancing the crack" carefully, you could exterminate drug addicts from our population, ending demand, strangling Mexican drug gangs, and ending most of the border problems.

I think he meant specifically that Arizona hasn't gotten the border dollars that other states that border Mexico have, thus most of the traffic funnels into Arizona that once went through all four border states. There were enormous funds spent in the 90s, particularly in California, that built a veritable Maginot Line along California's southern border. That directly resulted in pushing folks who used to cross into California over to now crossing into Arizona.

Organ Pipe is a beautiful place, having been there a number of times. Only 2/3 is permanently closed (the western part). The eastern third is open, incluidng the loop road to Ajo Mountain. But they advise that you only hike in broad daylight, as things get dangerous at night even in the eastern third. You can stay in the one big campground at the visitor's center, which is well-guarded, but other than that, it's quite dicey. The visitor center is named after Kris Eggle, a 28-year old park ranger who was gunned down by a drug cartel hit squad that had come across the border into Arizona.

In five years has one poster in this thread ever suggested that companies shouldn't face more severe consequences for hiring illegals?
