IIHF U-18 Women's World Championships January 7-14 in Zlin, Czech Republic

Re: IIHF U-18 Women's World Championships January 7-14 in Zlin, Czech Republic

No scoring in the 3rd so the final was 6-0. Final shot totals were 51-6.
In the other semi Canada holds a 4-2 lead late in the 3rd period. Of note in this game is that key forward Amy Potomak took a 5 minute major and a game misconduct penalty in the 1st period. I assume this means that she will miss tomorrow's game, likely the championship vs. the U.S.? Not sure how it works in these IIHF tournaments...

I think the misconduct is assessed for that game only and is not for an extra game.

I think you're right, not a game DQ.

Re: IIHF U-18 Women's World Championships January 7-14 in Zlin, Czech Republic

No score after one. The U.S. came out strong and controlled play for the first third or so of the first period. Then Canada had a definite edge in zone play and scoring opportunities for most of the balance of the period, but Gulstene was solid in net and came up with some big saves. Good game with terrific effort and talent on display on both sides.

Lightning fast Gold Medal Game scoreless after one.

Canada had a clear 4 on 2 with a few minutes left in the period and completely bungled it.

Seems like the rink is so long that the camera can't pan in to the nets...haha.

Looks like a full house...a small full house.

U.S. leads 1-0 after two periods. Goal was scored on the power play by Delaney Drake, assisted by Clair DeGeorge. The U.S. will have just over a minute remaining on their power play to start the third.

Couldn't tell but the goal looked like it might have gone in off a defender since there were a few bodies at the side of the net between the crease and the shooter.

Re: IIHF U-18 Women's World Championships January 7-14 in Zlin, Czech Republic

USA 3, Canada 1

Grace Zumwinkle with the winning goal with 2:32 remaining to win it for the U.S. She also assisted on a nice empty net goal by Emily Oden to seal it with 5 seconds to go. The Americans had to kill off a tripping penalty called on Natalie Heising with 1:59 left.

Great hockey game with both teams giving it everything they had. It simply doesn't get any better at that age level.

Re: IIHF U-18 Women's World Championships January 7-14 in Zlin, Czech Republic

Congratulations to the US.

Bit of a canoe tipper near the end with Canada hitting the post on the power play.

Thought the US was more aggressive and at times their forechecking was relentless.

The US kept Canada to the outside when on the PK...and Canada couldn't tighten the noose.

Both sides seemed to have trouble with stick handling and controlling the puck and the puck often looked like a pinball.

But all told...a fast wide open entertaining game.

the incompetent refs majorly screwed up the outcome of this game in the biggest possible way...but refs at the women's level are mostly all bad so it should come as no surprise. How sad that they messed up the outcome like this in such an important gold medal game.

I honestly thought that the refereeing really favored the Canadian side for most of the game. Even so, the USA won this game fair and square. It did not come down to the officiating.

I just got done watching the stream...How did the refs mess up the outcome of this game?

second canadian goal in the third period called off for "goalie interference" (there was none), and then player subsequently gets penalty for "goalie interference" (there was none). The refs are so bad but this is a reality in the women's game. Le sigh.

Re: IIHF U-18 Women's World Championships January 7-14 in Zlin, Czech Republic

someone please tell how #16 amy potomak's goal was waved off at the ~5:00 minute mark in the third...
look at the aggressive #14 USA player in front of the net and then potomak
Bad refs. So sad when they determine the outcomes of crucial games such as this.

It was at 14:36 of the third, unless you're from Europe.

Don't know what your complaint is about the US player #14...maybe you can elaborate.

At the same time I couldn't see the infraction but the view is somewhat obstructed by the bodies of the two subject players. Looked like Potomak just took one swipe at the puck and it went in. Couldn't see any interference.

Second Canadian goal? The USA was leading 1-0 when this occurred and Canada went on later in the period (6:16 left) to tie the game. After that the US made a couple of plays and Canada didn't.

Seems more like if there was going to be a call made there it could possibly have been slashing the goalie. Not interference from what I could see which as you said was somewhat obstructed.

So sad when they determine the outcomes of crucial games such as this. AND second canadian goal in the third period called off for "goalie interference"
So you didn't actually watch the game, good to know. I think we can respond appropriately given this information.
And you are from French-speaking part of Canada.

oops. I meant first canadian goal. I did indeed watch it. The refs are so bad in the women's game.

Re: IIHF U-18 Women's World Championships January 7-14 in Zlin, Czech Republic

do no men want to referee women's games? is it politically incorrect?

it is time to give other more qualified people a chance, men or women. the refs in women's games have been bad thus far.
