IIHF U-18 Women's World Championships January 7-14 in Zlin, Czech Republic

Despite coming from 1 goal down to take a 2-1 lead in the second Russia doesn't have the horses to stay with Canada. Amy Potomak got the game winner (and 2 points for the game).
Canada 4 Russian 2.

I also find I enjoy a game with no babbling buffoons doing the play by plat.

In this case less is more...

There is improvement in the skating level of Russia and them getting better will make it a more interesting tournament.

Scoreless first period with both teams looking a little ragged so far, no doubt due the pressure they did not see in their first two preliminary games. Scoring chances were about even, but not many good ones being generated off the power play for either side.

Still 0-0 after two. Taylor Heise had a couple of grade A chances but didn't convert.

Longest intermissions between periods ever!

Scoreless after regulation, now going to OT (5 minute 3 on 3).

It was all Canada in the brief overtime, and somehow the U.S. gets caught in a 3 on 1 and gives up the game winner.

The somehow was the long change and the three for the US being stuck out there for too long. Drake had the chance to get the puck deep which would have allowed DeGeorge and Buchbinder to get off on a change but turned it over instead. It put Buchbinder in a bind as she was the only one able to get back into the play.

Grace Zumwinkle with a pair of equal strength goals to stake the U.S. to a 2-0 lead after one. Shots are 12-5 USA.

Who is in net for USA?

Just brought up the feed to find out and it is in intermission between the 2nd and 3rd periods with the US leading 6-0. They have alternated Reed and Gulstene so it could be Reed today.

I see D2D beat me to it.

Also just for grins, I checked the other semi-final and Canada is leading Sweden 3-2 after two periods...

USA scores four more in the second to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Goals came from Taylor Wente, Catherine Skaja, Grace Zumwinkle (hattie) and Natalie Heising. Russia has all but given up as it's starting to look like a never-ending power play. Russia didn't manage a single shot in the period, and for the game the shots are 32-5.

In the other semi Canada leads Sweden 3-2 after two. Shots are 22-12 in that one.

Lindsay Reed.

Thanks!
Hopefully they keep alternating and we get to watch Gulstene tomorrow :)

6-0 final for USA over Russia and 4-2 Canada over Sweden late in the 3rd period.

Make that 6-2 final Canada over Sweden.

No scoring in the 3rd so the final was 6-0. Final shot totals were 51-6.
In the other semi Canada holds a 4-2 lead late in the 3rd period. Of note in this game is that key forward Amy Potomak took a 5 minute major and a game misconduct penalty in the 1st period. I assume this means that she will miss tomorrow's game, likely the championship vs. the U.S.? Not sure how it works in these IIHF tournaments...
