backroads....
They probably figured they could fatten him up with a few bull sessions down at the local donut shop.

Isn't this thread suppose to be about dead people??
Speaking of Donuts and dead people, there is always Tim Horton.
And Steve - if Penn State goes up to Potsdam to play Clarkson, they're opening up a Tim's in town.

Re: I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

We could have a burger and fries from the grill line every day of the week. Problem was, most kids thought the burgers were TERRIBLE. I never minded. Add some ketchup, mustard, a few fries, and you were golden.

Grill line? An obvious modern creation. On that one crumby day a week when they served fries, the menu selection was always mac & cheese (which I'm not complaining about) but we never had burgers, ever. If we did, they would have sucked, no doubt. Some sort of black magic goes on in high school cafeteria kitchens.

There was a scene in "National Lampoon's Class Reunion," where the camera pans around in the high school kitchen. It passes a rack of #10 institutional cans labeled: "Powdered sh*t, creamed sh*t and chopped sh*t." "Hey, get me a can of creamed sh*t, we're running out."

Thanks for the heads up. We don't have a Tim's yet, but we do have Tim's coffee at our arena.

To call it a grill line is being generous. Deep fried french fries, 1/6 lb burgers (I swear they had soy in them) put through a flame broiler (similar to those at BK or DQ), and a choice of fruit, vegetable, or whatever else you could find in line.

Once a week we had Little Caesar's pizza, which if you grow up in Detroit is pretty edible compared to, say, Hungry Howie's - when you're that age, you don't care much.

Once a month, we'd get the beloved Bosco Sticks - product of a Detroit-area factory where they take bread sticks and stuff them with mozzarella cheese. My junior year, the administration mandated you could only have two sticks each, to much consternation among the student body.

What's wrong with a Hot 'n Ready?

For the money, not much (though there are some Little Caesars' that are managed better than others). Hungry Howie's keeps trying to copy the Little Caesar's model, but with crappier products. As my dad once said, "Hungry Howie's is pizza for drunks." :p

Watch Alex Karras - kidney failure.

Life expectancy can vary all over the place with that diagnosis. A lot depends on the cause and his response to dialysis and of course possible transplant if needed. I have treated patients carrying that diagnosis for as long as 25 years but some cases admittedly only survived for weeks/months.

He's in hospice care.

Not a good sign to say the least.:(

You and I remember him as a player. Smallish defensive lineman. But, oh so quick. He'd be by the offensive linemen trying to block him in a flash and heading for the QB. Somebody once asked him about changing the rules to protect QB's and he said he had no problem with it, so long as they were required to wear tutus.

He will always be remembered for his exploits on the field and his movie and TV roles-but lest we forget about some of the scandal he was involved in. He and Paul Hornung were 2 of my idols but had to sit out a suspension for involvement with some bar and some connections to unsavory characters (and some ? gambling). In my eyes though that episode did nothing to diminish either one of them. Heroes of my youth.
