Huntington.Comm NU/BU 11/6

Re: Huntington.Comm NU/BU 11/6

Loved the renovations... Somehow fixed everything up while still keeping that amazing Matthews feel. As someone who sort of revels/treasures the cathedral of hockey that is Matthews I'm glad everything still seems intact. Still think they need to figure out how to make the lobby/bathrooms bigger (though I guess that's impossible)...

I like the dog house... I think in general NU has very good fans, certainly always very loud, but it seems like (Maybe because of last years success?) the group has tilted towards UMass-dom (only tilted though). Definitely far more drunks than I remember, there was a flask of jack and a natty light in one of the stalls in the bathroom, a couple of drunk fans yelling at an old man in a michigan jacket and chanting that people at urinals should pee on a bu fan (to their credit the people who were using the adjacent urinals did not)... But I guess they were the exception rather than the rule, it's just that the exception seemed more frequent than it was last year. I still love the atmosphere and Matthew's is as amazing as ever... Really though, someone should say something to the one guy in the backwards-dog-house-signed-area that has the megaphone (I remember him from last year). Man up and use your voice!

Also... Anybody know what was up with the "sellout" crowd tonight? Definitely tons of empty seats.

Well, students probably had many of those seats....but instead chose to stand behind the Dog House or elsewhere in the balcony. There were about 6-8 girls sitting in the aisle of my section (51). Students would rather stand with other students than sit down below.

Ah, reasonable enough, didn't know that was an option, you're lucky you don't have Agganazis, :D.

..def a sellout. I think if you glanced over at the lobby.. there were about 150 odd people standing there throughout watching through the glass & in other parts of the arena there were plenty standing due the energy.. i think its a pretty amazing view both places, though i'd sit in my seat. Also, there's always certain season ticket holders who don't always show up all gms.

Thnks for your comments on the renovations.. & yeah, we have our share of rowdies (every school has 'em i guess.. i mean if i were to describe Sasquatch to someone or what he does.. they just wouldn't get it..) :)

Actually...I almost had security talk to them. It's one thing to sit there during the period, but they pretty much refused to move to let anyone out or back in during intermission. Not cool IMO. Definitely more clueless drunk freshmen than in the past, but that will improve as the season goes on...

Me and a friend theorized during one of the intermissions that our perception that BU has far less of those rowdies (and I do actually think it's true) would be completely different if we didn't have the security we have. In reality I think most of these student bases are fairly similar, it's just a matter of how much sh*t the event staff is willing to put up with, and as we all know, Agganis security puts up with the least of all the Hockey East schools.

I noticed the UMass-like students tonight, too, and I really think they were "newbies". I saw TONS of other NU students trying to shut those morons up, and I believe the REAL Doghouse fans will get it straightened out. I am not personally offended by anything, but I have always admired the fanbases who can be clever and enthusiastic without being profane. (And BU is included in that...I love the BU student section.) So I hope the real Doghouse can gain control over the hockey newbies who are just there because it makes them feel cool.

That said, the atmosphere at Matthews tonight was incredible. Tonight felt like a playoff game in early November! This is a rivalry that I think is on the brink of finally getting somewhere.

I bet Agganis security does play a big part in that. The BU fans always seem to be a little rowdier at neutral-site events than at home games...although part of that could be that at, say, the Beanpot, they're often playing BC...and that gets the venom flowing a little bit more hosting NU in November.

Re: Huntington.Comm NU/BU 11/6

Unreal game...happy to meet other USCHO'ers tonight...had a blast...Matthews was on fire tonight

Obviously some n00bs to work out but nice to get a win of bu for the first time since 2007

Rawlings looked great and how did they kill that last 4:10 is beyond me...great PK

more tomorrow...bring on UCH!

Re: Huntington.Comm NU/BU 11/6

un.be.lievalble

great game, great atmosphere minus some dumb freshman, rawlings stole one for the huskies tonight, offense is still inept, sigh.... hopefully that gets fixed sooner rather than later.

Re: Huntington.Comm NU/BU 11/6

One of my friends had a water bottle thrown at her head. I think the fresh crop of drunk dumb*****es has already been covered sufficiently, but just figured I'd add that to the list.

Re: Huntington.Comm NU/BU 11/6

Rawlings is a big dude. Your goalies in the past have never really been that tall, if I'm remembering correctly. Clutch performance by him tonight. And not to take anything away from him, but many of the shots by BU were kinda crappy. Lots of pucks in skates, weak passes, etc. Ugh. But yeah, crazy atmosphere there tonight.

While I love the new scoreboard, it's a little small. Was that due to not being able to support a larger one, or budget? Does it not have the capability to include graphics? You know, for announcing penalties and goals. And I know that it was really loud in there, but you couldn't hear the PA guy at all, even when the fans weren't screaming. I saw all these new speakers around and none of them seemed to be on. You used to be able to hear the PA guy, regardless of how loud the crowd was. All that notwithstanding, the place looks great.

Re: Huntington.Comm NU/BU 11/6

Scarlet it wasn't budget.. they have the extra $. Roof can't safely support it. The 100 yr old barn does have its limitations.. kinda like an aging hip (gulp.) :) As far as water bottles, yes we need Agganistan type security.. i guess (no?).. when we attended gms at the old WBA.. we had water bottles thrown at us as well. Least i hope it was water bottles :)

Re: Huntington.Comm NU/BU 11/6

Unbelievable game. I too still can't believe we killed off the major and the subsequent 6-4.

Who was that guy in net for us last night? Looks like Thiessen had a growth spurt.

Re: ********* fans...When standing in line for tix this week, I must have heard 75-100 people talking about how this is the only game they're going to this year and they just want to see us play BU. I'm guessing they made up a large percentage of the drunk idiots. Apologies for that.

I had a large group behind and around me that had likely never been to a hockey game. They were enthusiastic, but they were just there to party and cuss out BU, as it seemed a lot of newbies were...aside from one girl directly behind me who was on her laptop for most of the game. Yes, you heard that right.

wow... if you don't want to go, give your ticket to someone who does... Guarantee there were students who actually wanted to go but didn't get a ticket. that really ****es me off.

Re: Huntington.Comm NU/BU 11/6

The renovations looked awesome. Much better concessions, padded seats.....
We it me or was the scoreboard difficult to see clearly, it seemed like the LED lights made things blury? I couldn't look at it had to look at the side scoreboards. Video part was nice albiet a bit small, but the parts below were hard to look at.

The fan support was electric!
