Hollywood Sexual Assault Thread: We needed one...

He's a great director and a sh-tty person. Why is that so hard to get?

Nobody on the planet wants to emulate him as a father or husband.

Can still recall his presser.... “it’s true”

He was so proud. Couldn’t understand why nobody was happy for him.

Straight out of his movie, the character that day

I am not surprised in the least. One of his restaurants was my favorite in nyc when I lived there and as amazing as it was, I always got a creep vibe from him

The only thing that surprised me was I had always assumed he was gay. I thought I had read that somewhere over the years. *shrug*

Either way, I'm guessing we're going to be seeing women come forward in all sorts of industries now. I hope.

Can't let this one slip off the first page of threads for too long.

Mario Batali.

Bourdain was hinting at it on Twitter last night, before it was confirmed this morning. This doesn't shock me at all, especially after he got busted stealing tips from his employees a few years back. Meathead culture has persisted in restaurants for decades.

Bobby Flay - you're next.

The hot rumors about him are that he's just a serial philanderer. I guess I wouldn't be surprised either way.

Well, I’m not going to manslutshame him. If it was all consensual then whatever. He’s a scumbag.

If he groped or harassed a bunch of women then it’s time for Food Network to start refreshing the ranks.

Mostly, I just think he's a smug d-bag who seems like the type. His personality is like half the managing partners in every consulting firm.

A childhood friend of Dr. Mrs. is a notable chef in San Diego -- top 500 in the world. His marriage (to another of her childhood friends) broke up because of his philandering. They're good friends and she was seriously p-ssed off at him, so he explained at length what it's like in his world. In short, it's insane. It's constant over the top opportunity at top athlete / rock star level, but the women aren't sleazy, stupid, underage, on drugs or drunk -- on the contrary, they are beautiful, wealthy, intelligent, successful, globe-trotting women but for whatever reason a top chef is wet panties time. I've seen the guy and he's fine to look at but certainly nothing better than the average in shape guy who cleans up well and wears $2500 suits.

Anyway. I'm not surprised.

It's also one of the most sexist professional environments on the planet, particularly the Europeans. The Asians are basically full-on rapists.

If you worked in the restaurant business, no matter what level, or what gender, by today's standards, you were harassed. I will stand by that statement. Off-color comment, physical activity, whatever. There was at least SOME dialogue that would be frowned upon in today's world. And I guarantee it's still going on.

Might I recommend Anthony Bordains' "Kitchen Confidential." The wife told me bits of it when she read it years ago. I recall one anecdote of his where a bride at a wedding went into the kitchen to see how dinner was coming along, and Bordain found himself outside banging her.

Bourdain wasn't the one banging her. He was a fry cook at the time, working at a two-bit restaurant in Provincetown, MA, and he witnessed the head chef going at it with her.

His first job out of CIA was working at the Rainbow Room up in 30 Rock. His first month, he was harassed by an alcoholic gay kitchen manager, until one day he stabbed the guy's hand when he went in for a grab.

The pen15 puppets?

The pen15 puppets?

I never witnessed or heard about that at the places I worked. LOTS of innuendo, even some blatant comments, maybe a grab-arse here and there, and of course, all restaurant people do is date each other because of the odd hours/schedules, so that always leads to something.
