Re: Hollywood Sexual Assault Thread: We needed one...
Roy Moore was a sh-tty judge, too.
That is a very important point that has been lost in the scandal noise. We know his base doesn't care about his record because it is consistent with their beliefs, but the guy openly flouted the constitution he swore to uphold. A little story.
Years ago, I and Mrs. burd attended her 25th HS reunion at a little shythole town in SE Kansas (because we happened to be visiting her family that week anyway). During one early session in the auditorium, the current vice principal, who was a class member, told the group that although the United States Supreme Court had banned team prayer prior to football games, they, by God, still did it (coach-led--not even student-led). He said this with pride, implying that they had not forsaken God, and it was well received.
I grew up in a small, rural town, and I know of the many ways they are special, even if on a cultural slow track, so I am slow to judge in those situations. But after hearing that I couldn't look at him or his cronies with anything but absolute contempt. I should have stood up and challenged the guy, but I fear Mrs. burd far more than I do the God they were praying to.
btw, I did ask myself if that was just another form of civil disobedience I might celebrate in other circumstances. But I just can't get there on that kind of behavior, and I am not really sure why. My own bias, perhaps.
