Hockey support in Georgia

Re: Hockey support in Georgia

Speaking of square pegs in round holes. I really wish people would stop bringing up taxpayer money because taxpayer money is seldomly ever used to support an athletic program. Programs are almost exclusively asked to be self-sufficient.

The University of Minnesota is in a completely separate university system as the rest of the MN schools, so there are really no tes between the schools or programs in that regard.

You didn't answer my question. Why wasn't UW invited to the tournament that MN has to go and give up home games? I think it would have been nice to share that revenue with some other teams outside of MN, at least once every 3 or 4 years.

Because UW doesn't need the support. Or is your program on the verge of folding.....again?

Re: Hockey support in Georgia

If you could get past your insecurities you'd realize that being a program asked to do more to help is a good thing because it is considered significant and successful enough to make a difference.

This isn't a UW vs UMN thing, as hard as you've been trying to make it that. It just so happens out of the largest schools in the former WCHA, Wisconsin is doing the least to assist the smaller schools in the former conference.

Insecurities? I'm THRILLED that we're not gonna play those teams anymore.

We're better at everything that I care about in sports than your alma mater and your adopted school combined.

And YOU made it a UMN/UW thing (as you always do) by criticizing what UW is doing and contrasting it to what the Gophers are doing - which is essentially the same thing that UW offered to Tech etc.

Keep moving those goal posts.

Actually, YOU asked what the Gophers are doing. YOU brought them up. YOU started making comparisons. My focus has been and still is on UW because they aren't playing ANY of the smaller former WCHA teams.

I did, did I?

If you're going to criticize UW, it'd be best if Minny wasn't doing exactly the same thing that you are criticizing. UW offered 2:1's. Can't help it if our dance partners weren't as desperate as yours.

And no, the Minnesota Circle Jerk Tourney doesn't set the Gophers apart as it will most certainly benefit the Gophers nearly the same if not more (much more) than whatever non-con home series in a half-empty Mooch that it will replace.

Re: Hockey support in Georgia

But is it in Minnesota's best interest to give up the revenue from two games at Mariucci to play at the MN Tournament or to agree to play all 4 in-state schools yearly?
Yes, it is. According to you, playing those games helps recruiting. It would follow, then, that they help recruiting for tEGUofMn's kissing-cousin state schools, too. The more recruiting being done locally drives local high school/prep school/youth hockey in general. That increases the local talent pool from which tEGUofMn can pull. So, yes, it clearly benefits the Gophers.

If UW wants to offer the same thing the Gophers did with any combo of smaller former WCHA schools, that would be fine by me :)

Or they can do less and just offer a 1:1 every 4 years.

Re: Hockey support in Georgia

In Anchorage? If so, that's a good start. glad to hear it, even if the extra games under NCAA rule were probably main motivation for scheduling it :)
Like tEGUofMn's motivation to schedule the Icebreaker? At home, no less?

Re: Hockey support in Georgia

Look at BSU's schedule next year. Do you not think they would benefit from seeing UW, UND, or Minnesota in their building (one, not all) almost every year? UND has done an admirable job of getting to BSU (proximity helps). Would it hurt a school like Wisconsin to make it to Mankato every so often without requiring two return trips?

Maybe I am giving UW too much credit for what they will draw at opposing rinks, but I would think the brand recognition of a UW would be more significant than an Atlantic Hockey team out West.

You are giving them to much credit. I know you think the world revolves around Big Ten schools but it doesn't. The Gophers are a big deal because it is a Minnesota thing, but the other schools are not going to be a big draw. My guess is Michigan would be the only other Big Ten team that would be a big deal if they came because of past NCAA tourney match ups. nobody would give two s**ts if Ohio State, Michigan State and Penn State came to the Herb in the coming years.

LOL! When did I ever say that?

Gophers need no help recruiting in-state.

I might be giving them too much credit. Especially Wisconsin. But the funny thing is, isn't it a bigger insult to say they are irrelevant than to say they are relevant and criticize whom they are choosing to play?

Funny what they get mad at :)

Well, the UW isn't going to do any of that, so I hope you can get over it.

And as per usual, you didn't reply to the points that discredit your argument:

The Gophers are doing the exact same thing yet UW should do more. Explain your reasoning on this other than delusion.

Yeah right. Some of those attendees must have been wearing those new-fangled invisibility cloaks as they weren't showing up on the TV screen.

Goal posts moved again.

Who said they care if SCSU fans don't consider us a draw?

Re: Hockey support in Georgia

Right about now, the only thing I'm hoping for is that both Minny & Wisco get death penalties for their hockey programs for lots of illegal recruiting. Create your own thread, ok?
