Hockey East to Expand Playoff Format

Re: Hockey East to Expand Playoff Format

Margarita time?

Under no circumstance did I need to see more PC games during that lovely stretch where they kept finishing in the basement.
I don't have my watch on, so it must be!!!

Re: Hockey East to Expand Playoff Format

One other thing here. At least Hockey East has a balanced regular season schedule. So by the logic of some, a team like BC had the misfortune (LOL) of having to play lowly UVM three times last year and open themselves up for the potential of losing one of those games compared to an unbalanced WCHA schedule where you might only have to play the bottom feeding team twice and potentially have more games against higher ranked opponents that can ultimately help your PWR standing.

Simply looking within the conference only, a balanced schedule is also more of a reason to not include everyone in the playoffs. If the 9th place team that was the first team left out of the playoffs had to play a more difficult in conference schedule than say the 8th team, then they may have a legit gripe... but that is not the case in HE as we have a balanced schedule.

Will Hockey East continue to have a balanced schedule when Notre Dame comes into the fold?

Re: Hockey East to Expand Playoff Format

Balanced in that it will be a 22 game league schedule, playing each team twice. What I don't know is if teams will play two at ND one year, two at home the next. The only problem with that is teams would have 12 home league games one year and 10 the next. As it is right now, they alternate between 13 and 14 home league games a year.

Re: Hockey East to Expand Playoff Format

Personally, I would prefer seeing a schedule where two different teams are sent out to ND for a weekend, but that might not be feasible.

Re: Hockey East to Expand Playoff Format

You could balance that by picking the next farthest outlier - Maine or Vermont - and doing the same thing, only opposite of ND. One year you host ND for 2 and travel to Maine for two, the next year you travel to ND and host Maine. Then only Maine and ND would be unbalanced.

Re: Hockey East to Expand Playoff Format

I don't get the outrage.

Everyone knew this was coming with the league expansion. Or everyone SHOULD have known this was coming with league expansion. To have expecting anything else is a little naive.

If 8 out of 10 teams make the playoffs now, how would it be naive to expect only 10 of 12 to make it with the additions of UConn and ND? That doesn't make sense.
