Hockey East 2010-2011

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Same amount of points, Atkinson with one more goal in 3 more games played. They are both great players, there's no denying that. Atkinson is definitely a better pro prospect, but it's not inconceivable at all to say that Butler was a more complete player this past year. In fact, the All American voters said it by putting Butler on the first team and leaving Atkinson off of the first two teams. Butler's also pretty dang good looking :p .

Let's be honest, one was a sophomore and one was a senior. As such, they certainly were comparable this season while Atkinson rose to occasion in the postseason a bit more. It's safe to say that in their sophomore seasons, Atkinson was far better than Butler - that's about all we can truly compare at this stage. We know voters give preference to the older guys... we know this. In addition, Atkinson did most of his damage late in the year (12 pts in the playoffs), at which point most voters have already made their minds up on who they are picking for these awards... ya know, it's not like we've never seen a BC guy go nuts and lead the country in scoring while bringing his team out of nowhere to the national title game and not even make the final 10 for the Hobey or anything (see Reasoner, Marty). And finally, he didn't have the hype machine pushing the voters like Butler had. I didn't head into Conte for a single game this year with a hillbilly at the gates handing me an Atkinson for Hobey flier. UNH was 1 for 1 in the games I went to in that category for Butler.

It is what it is. Both are probably comparable. But like all these conversations we have had over the years, one has the hardware while the other doesn't.

they cant jiggle, they cant juggle, but they sure as hell can drink ur azz under the table.:p

There's something to be proud of. Oh and you left out cramming into a jeep and pulling out in front of a T afterwards.

They can't juggle? reallly? Juggling's not that hard. I'm sure some of them can juggle some balls.

Of course Butler also didn't have the benefit of the best 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines as well as the best pk, pp, and goalie as a supporting cast either. And since we know BC had the best of everything it's not hard to see that Atkinson's numbers weren't better because of it...:D

And do forget the math students either...

No, the guy who allowed one total goal to the two top teams in the country when the lights were its brightest...

To me Muse is the equivalent to El Duque on those late 90's Yankees teams. Both were pretty average to slightly above average in the regular season but they got a lot of wins because of how good their team's were offensively. Muse, like El Duque, goes from average to outstanding in the playoffs, especially deep in the playoffs. I've always thought that Muse was a bit overrated but you at least have to acknowledge that he is a helluva big game goalie.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Bobby Butler played right wing and Gustav Nyquist played center last year. Atkinson is a hell of a player and I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the Hobey Hat Trick next year, but I would have taken either of the other guys over him and BC's right wings from last year.

For the record, Nyquist plays right wing, not center

i think dumping on that girl at this point is unfair...............did you miss the final report on this a few weeks ago??? i doubt it as little hockey news gets by you so why choose to pile on her when she is not deserving of it?? just my opinion ........

Irony.

My bad on that. With how dominant of a puckhandler/playmaker he is, I just kind of assumed he was a center.
@ Carmine, like I said earlier, I do believe Atkinson is a better prospect. Yes, he was a sophomore this year and Butler was a senior, and Atkinson's season was much better than Butler's sophomore season. However, this in 09-10, their season's were at least comparable.

I was talking about the passengers, not the driver...thus the "cramming into a jeep". Yes I saw where the T driver was totally discredited and was traveling to fast. But whether the T was moving faster then is should have a person should be able to tell whether they have time to safely avoid getting t-boned. But I am glad to know that BC chicks are able to drink people under the table. Even if they aren't the best drivers.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

10 Take it to the bank predictions for 2010-2011 :

1.) PC will miss the playoffs...again
2.) UVM continues to suck on the power play sub 20%
3.) NickP uses the word hillbilly 50+ times
4.) UNH recuits another van Reimsdyke
5.) de Costa has a sophmore slump
6.) Timmay ruins another goalie
7.) UML fans have more comments on their recruit thread then season thread.
8.) Hokydad gets a player banned when he sends them a $1000 jersey
9.) Cronin once again is a commentator during the HE semi-finals and finals
10.) UMA scores half as many goals as last year.

I don't think Muse is overrated at all. He had a sub-par sophomore season and was used in a rotation as a junior. Nobody has ever billed him as an all Hockey East selection or POTY or anything like that. His regular season numbers don't warrant that recognition. You won't even find BC fans saying he's a great regular season goalie. Heck, there were even people who wanted Milner to play over him (I was never in that camp)

thus the "cramming into a jeep".

what about cramming into the jeep?

But I am glad to know that BC chicks are able to drink people under the table. Even if they aren't the best drivers

Huh?

I disagree with 5, 9 and 10.

I'd be shocked (barring injury) if Da Costa doesn't break 40 points again, and I'd be at least a little surprised if he doesn't break 50. I think anyone who watched him play last year can agree that he's the real deal.

I don't expect NU to have a great season, but I don't see any way they'll be worse than two out of UML, UMA and PC.

Half as many goals for UMass would be 53 total and just 36 in conference. I know they lost a lot, and I definitely expect their offense to be bad, but that would be a whole new level of atrocious. I just don't see any way anyone could possibly be that inept offensively. The only team to ever finish with fewer than 40 goals in league play was Merrimack in 06-07 (they had 28).

Updated the list to reflect an error. I meant Cronin would be at the Garden as a commentator only. My mistake.

As for de Costa the kids is amazing, but... he flew largely under the radar for the first half of the season. Even after he scored 5 goals I think it was mostly looked at as a fluke.

Not this year, coaches are going to zero in and he doesn't have the supporting cast to take the pressure off.

if Muse played for your team, you'd want a statue built for him
