Hey Massachusetts! Coakley or Brown?

Re: Hey Massachusetts! Coakley or Brown?

Politico/InAdv 1/17 - 1/17 804 LV 52 43 Brown +9
PJM/CrossTarget (R) 1/17 - 1/17 574 LV 52 42 Brown +10
PPP (D) 1/16 - 1/17 1231 LV 51 46 Brown +5
ARG 1/15 - 1/17 600 LV 52 45 Brown +7
Daily Kos/R2000 1/15 - 1/17 500 LV 48 48 Tie

Don't forget. The Boston Globe is unbiased media - so if they ignore the top four polls, then they obviously don't count. ;)

I love how the liberal posters have been avoiding this thread like the plague all day.... keeping their traps shut in face of the political winds and hoping the well-oiled Massachusetts Democratic Party can help them serve us crow tomorrow. ;)

You know this thread is making their hemerhoids blister at this point - gotta give them credit for keeping their traps shut today, that's discipline - my hats off to Rover et al.

Re: Hey Massachusetts! Coakley or Brown?

Pause for a moment and consider what we're anticiapting. That Barack Obama's outrageous, bloated, costly health care "reform" bill, that the Democrats have made more deals than Monte Hall to get to this point, may be about to go down in flames. Why? Because the senate seat once occupied by the Hero of Chappaquiddick (a man who made health care "reform" the centerpiece of his senate career) is going to change hands, to a REPUBLICAN.

The "ironyometer" hasn't been made that can measure this one.

Man, I REALLY hope what you're forecasting comes to fruition.
Wouldn't that be the sweetest thing we've seen politically in quite some time? :D

Well, the empirical data (polls) seem to show a dramatic and irreversable shift away from Mabel and toward Brown. Politico has categorized Marcia's polling as in a "freefall."The overnight polling showed continued erosion of her support, even after the President's visit. Naturally, in a Democratic gulag like Massachusetts, one can't completely rule out some sort of last minute GOTV effort that Acorn and others can use to energize the dead, the illegals, the unregistereds and the felons to drag Marcia's bones across the finish line. But really, that's the only hope they have left.

The legacy media want it to be close because they want Mabel to win. In addition, a close race improves the ratings for election coverage. Olbermann tonight talked about "being there until the early hours of the morning" reporting on this one. Well, maybe. I'm guessing probably not. They'll hold on to the results, extending the suspense for as long as they possibly can.
Either way, they'll know which way this race turned out very early on, count on it.

It'll be great theatre, no doubt.

Not to mention that if our health care system were better, maybe Kennedy lives a little longer and the special election isn't even needed...

So many layers of irony.

Not that I'm suggesting that Kennedy's care was in any way inadequate by today's standards (because how would I know?), but a better "system" should theoretically be a rising tide that extends most lives.

Re: Hey Massachusetts! Coakley or Brown?

Honestly. Not a single peep from the lefties on USCHO. They're hunkering down and hope they get Yahtzee so they can start feeding crow to us. I really don't think we should overlook the fact that not even the most DNC-touting posters daren't utter a word on this thread so far.....

Kennedy was given treatments that you and I would never be approved for. From what I understand they tried experimental procedures that have not been approved by any health insurers. He just had the misfortune of developing a type of Glioblastoma that we currently cannot control very well. But you are otherwise right on the money-an extremely ironic situation.

Far be it for them to interrupt your little b/u/k/k/a/k/e fest over here.

Earlier I posted that Olbermann isn't taking this well. See for yourself. Hard not to get a chuckle watching him froth.

Jon Stewart spent so much time on this last night...all but offering to drive people to the polls himself. I know he isn't unbiased but I was still surprised at the level of pleading for democrats to wake up and get out to vote. He made fun of both candidates but then wheeled out the Kennedy legacy etc...a clear appeal on behalf of the democratic party.

The DNC should have to pay for the time...and yes, I agree that if that is the case then the RNC should pay for equal Fox programming:)

Olbermann is a clown. What disturbs me more is how incredibly biased the Boston Globe has been. Now I realize they have always had a liberal slant which is fine, but the biased reporting the past couple of weeks is obvious and blatant.

Welcome to the new school of journalism.

A little "who lost Massachusettes (sic)" analysis from Politico.com. Naturally the Washington types are going to blame Marcia. And she has been a horrible candidate. However, note the quote from one insider that they've lost New Jersey, Virginia and now Massachusetts and the only thing those three states have in common is: Barack Hussein Obama.

I think he could pay out of pocket for most any experimental treatment. Maybe insurance didn't cover it, wait, he has the senate policy, never mind:D

Yeah, 5 or 6 polls come out yesterday, and all but one show Brown's lead increasing, and beyond the margin of error. One shows the race tied. And the Globe continues to call the race "close." It may turn out that way, of course, but the only way the Globe would know that is through clairvoyance.

That one poll was conducted by Daily Kos and even Markos Moulitsas said last night it looks very dire for Mabel. Chris Mathews also had enough integrity yesterday to indicate she was probably toast.

There's a difference between being liberal and being like Hitler in the bunker.

Re: Hey Massachusetts! Coakley or Brown?

Lots of previously repressed feelings on this thread.:D

My thoughts:

1) As has been mentioned, an "enthusiasm" vs "turnout" election. From early reports turnout is pretty good. The problem with this election is that there's no reliable indicators to interpret the results. Who does high or low turnout favor? What areas should be expect to vote heavily, etc. One of the oddest races I've seen, even ones where the Republican candidate (Romney for example) won.

2) Coakley's problem is the same that Mass Dems for governor face, which is that when you come up in state politics the action is always in the primaries for those lower offices, so its a run to the left. If faces with an argument from the other side of the aisle, they often have trouble because its new to them (and their campaign managers).

3) Two unappealing candidates to be sure. Coakley has run a rose garden campaign, which is disasterous. Reminds me of Dukakis in '88, don't do anything and figure the voters will come to you. Never took the time to define herself, allowing her opponents to define her. Scott Brown's candidacy apparently revolves around having a daughter who lost in a preliminary round of American Idol and a vague promise to oppose everything but propose nothing. In that regard this is like the Cellucci-Harshbarger race.

4) Whatver the result, and hopefully its a close scare instead of a crushing defeat, there needs to be several lessons taken out of this for my fellow Dems. First, act like you want the office, not expecting it to be handed to you. Next, for Obama/Congress start getting things done quickly. Health care dragged on for too long. Finally, start defining issues and explaining yourself. If you don't, your opponents will. Right now they're in a sorta prevent defense, which as we all know prevents you from winning.

Oh, one more thing. Its well known that Curt Schilling is a dope. We're all thankful for the 2004 World Series but really, the guy's an idiot. For all the talk about what will decide this race, this angle has to be the most absurd.
