HEY HERE IT IS! Its the UNO season thread!

Re: HEY HERE IT IS! Its the UNO season thread!

Without qualification, this is the dumbest post I have ever seen a UNO fan make. I am surprised it is in standard English.

I stand by my statement and you'll note that the poster right above your comment also sort of agrees with me. This was an opinion that was shared with me by other people in our section in the Qwest (all long time season ticket holders like myself) although the opinions were evenly divided, I must confess. You're entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. I don't know why my opinion is dumb, since it is my personal belief or feeling and I backed it up with at least some sort of rationale for having given it.

We're just gonna have to agree to disagree. Several days have gone by and I have not changed my mind, either. I certainly don't think your opinion is dumb, I just don't agree with it. We're all on the same team here, remember?

Further, I think running it at the end of the game on Saturday night (which was after my original post), right after UNO swept the Badgers, made it even worse. That's just kicking somebody when they are down.

When your kid's little league team beat's another little league team, do you encourage the kids (or their parents, to make the proper analogy here) to start gloating at the other team about having defeated them after the game? That's essentially what this was. I thought you shook hands and said "nice game", not get in their face and insult who they are, notwithstanding the fact that we can't even begin to compare program resume's with them.

Further, think their coach isn't gonna use that for some extra cannon fodder when we go up there and play them next season?

One of the rules of sports is you try and avoid giving the other team bulletin board material. We flat did so on purpose.

Re: HEY HERE IT IS! Its the UNO season thread!

If they needed a 60 second video on the jumbotron to motivate them, then they are worse off anyway. Is it because it was Wisconsin and all their history? I could give a rats behind who it is. UNO bows to no one. I will agree that the timing of the video saturday could have been better, but I have absolutely no problem in poking fun at a visiting team and their fans.

Then I hope to never see any complaints about comparatively trivial barbs/slights thrown at UNO when they're on the road...I've lurked on mavpuck since it started when I was just a lad in high school; UNO fans can be just as whiny when they feel like it.

Can't argue with your first sentence. Valid point. Still, coach's look for motivation anywhere they can find it. I also certainly agree that UNO bows to no one. If you ain't wearin' the same color uniform as I am, I hate your guts. I get that. I agree. This just smacked of being more on the intentionally insulting side, at least, to me. Rest assured, if anybody had any real problems with it, Trev Alberts has probably already heard about it and I, for one, wasn't that bothered by it enough to even try to do that. I readily acknowledge that some people won't agree with me. That's what makes the world go around.

I don't know why my opinion is dumb, since it is my personal belief or feeling and I backed it up with at least some sort of rationale for having given it. I still love how segments of the UNO hockey community thinks that non season ticket holders are second class citizens and their opinions are less important. When times were tough and I couldn't afford to buy a ticket I'd make some phone calls and do some begging just to see if anyone had an extra ticket just so I could go root for the Mavs. I'd even park 6 blocks away it I couldn't afford to park in the lots. This "I'm a better fan than you crap needs to end. It's bad for the program.

Further, I think running it at the end of the game on Saturday night (which was after my original post), right after UNO swept the Badgers, made it even worse. That's just kicking somebody when they are down. That's ok their players were poor sports and took the brooms so we're even.

When your kid's little league team beat's another little league team, do you encourage the kids (or their parents, to make the proper analogy here) to start gloating at the other team about having defeated them after the game? This isn't little league, we're talking about grown men.

Further, think their coach isn't gonna use that for some extra cannon fodder when we go up there and play them next season? They have 2 brooms for that.

Next time wiscy comes to town I'm bringing to cow bells and a broom.

Re: HEY HERE IT IS! Its the UNO season thread!

Do Sconni fans always whine this much? I see nothing wrong with playing videos that poke fun at the opponent. I get kind of tired of this idea that we have to be nice. We can be nice but can also needle the opposition. I refuse to look ahead to the bloodbath in 2 weeks so its about Anchorage this week.

I doubt the average Sconni fan is a whiner like that. Their fans that were in Omaha were 1rst class.

I hear ya. You will never see me complain. I love that kind of stuff. Go ahead and make fun of us. All the more sweeter when we beat ya.

Re: HEY HERE IT IS! Its the UNO season thread!

How on God's green Earth did I convey any sort of sentiment about non-season tickets holders here in any way or that ANYBODY'S opinion's here are, for any reason, less important than anybody else's here? I'm totally lost there.

The statement "I'm a better fan than you crap needs to end. It's bad for the program." has me scratching my head wondering what you are talking about, because, I don't have a clue where that's coming from. You don't even know me, yet you profess to somehow know what I am thinking, or, somehow think that I have some opinion about you, personally, which I don't, since, I don't know you just like you don't know me.

I make, nor made, any assertions that I am better fan than any other Mav fan whatsoever. I don't have any reason to feel that way, nor do I. As far as I am concerned, any Mav fan is a friend of mine.

For the life of me, I have no idea what your ability or inability to buy a ticket or afford parking has to do with this discourse, either.

I don't have any animosity towards you since I have no reason or basis to have any. I really don't understand all the vitriol directed my way here at at all.

Obviously, I've tripped your trigger in some way for some reason. Sorry for that. This is a forum where people express their opinions. I still make no apologies for any opinion I've expressed here and, as I said, previously, we are obviously going to have to agree to disagree about the original topic matter here.

I am sure Ben does not mean to say that all taunts are trivial and therefore ought to be tolerated. Example: In the NCAA game, Alex Nikiforuk got thrown out late for arguing with the ref. At first, the BU students were chanting "Someone's bitter," which would qualify in the Red Cows world as "bulletin board material" and "kicking him when he's down." In fact, while a taunt, it was clever and funny, even at my guy's expense. The BU students later shifted to "a--hole, a--hole" which is not funny, not clever, and inappropriate.

Playing a clip from a Weird Al movie does not justify 1500 students yelling "c--t, d-----bag" at a penalized player, nor does it justify sending a five year old over to yell "you suck" at fans. And while as a whole my experience with WCHA fans has been much more positive then with their rust belt brethren, there was still a Wisco fan with a white mohawk at QCO doing a double-barreled bird-flip to UNO fans throughout the weekend. Federal case material? No. Worse than "stinking badgers?" Yes.

Nobody's fan base is perfect. Indeed, the UNO students have taken up the habit of yelling "you suck" at random intervals. It is coarse, it is stupid, it is nothing I want my 9 and 4 year old to emulate, and it's poor cheering (it's also *so* CCHA). Of the things I heard at QCO over the weekend, this is much more disappointing than the clip from UHF.

Forget this broom on the ice business, UNO has a chance at the McNaughton Cup in their first year in the WCHA ! Winning seasons come in ebbs and flows so enjoy them even if that means throwing a broom on the ice after a big weekend, it's your barn. Nice work so far this year mavs I hope you make it to the regionals and paint an east team all over the boards.

Re: HEY HERE IT IS! Its the UNO season thread!

The big question for me is, will Blais complain about his team having to travel to Alaska like he did when he coached UND? ;)

Re: HEY HERE IT IS! Its the UNO season thread!

Suze - At the radio show he talked about a four hour layover in Minneapolis they were in for on Thursday. Not much complaining on his end. He stated that it is a tough trip to make and that Alaska was playing good hockey. Thinking anyone that makes the trip to Alaska would agree that it is not an easy trip....

Re: HEY HERE IT IS! Its the UNO season thread!

I was impressed with the routines that the Wisconsin fans did during the starting lineups and after any goal they scored. Also, after Friday's game I was with a group that were the last people in the stands, except for a group of Wisconsin fans. They were swaying left to right and chanting something I couldn't make out.

I know that we are young to hockey, but I'm hoping some day UNO will have something that gets everyone in the house doing after goals, after games, etc. The fight song after the game is pretty cool after a victory, and hopefully we can develop more traditions.

Re: HEY HERE IT IS! Its the UNO season thread!

We're all on the same team here, remember?

Squabbling within the fanbase? Even when you're winning? Welcome to the WCHA! :D

And you lost your argument and credibility when you compared the end of a WCHA sweep to the end of a little league game.

The fight song after the game is pretty cool after a victory, and hopefully we can develop more traditions.

Just PLEASE do something original. tUMD has ripped off EVERYTHING from the Gophers, the last thing we need is you guys stealing the Ole! crap from Mansucko

Re: HEY HERE IT IS! Its the UNO season thread!

SCSU - Ha! That's funny....I think we already ripped that off too! After the game, if they win, the players come out to the entrance to the Qwest and chant the UNO fight song as they jump up and down in a circle. The crowd gets around them and clap with them. It's a pretty cool sight to see. And with Blais being something like 24-8 at home in two years, it has happened many times recently!

Re: HEY HERE IT IS! Its the UNO season thread!

Hey Everyone,

My girlfriend and I will be traveling out there for the Denver series next weekend. I have not attended any games at the Qwest Center. Any similarities between it and the Old building? The Old Auditorium was a blast when I was there for the 2002 Stampede.

Looking forward to meeting some of you and having a few Pre Game brewskies!
