Re: Headline News Thread

VW is Germany's GM. They're huge, and own a whole stable of other brand names. Many Audis are just rebranded VWs with finer interior accoutrements more powerful engines. The most common and direct example is Passat = A4. The top-of-the-line Passat is the equivalent of a lower- to mid-line A4.

no 3, behind toyota and gm

Re: Headline News Thread

I knew about VW/Porsche, IIRC, that's been like that for quite a while.

As for Audi, I didn't know that, but I'll say my brother (longtime mechanic, for those who don't know) told me if I ever got an Audi, he would never touch it (he's the only one I trust with my vehicle nowadays). He hates the engineering on them.

My VW isn't diesel, but it still sucks.

Looks pretty, though.

I'm in my 2nd VW. Had an '11 Tiguan 2.0L turbo gasser, loved it but traded it in to increase towing capacity.

Now in a '14 Touareg 3.0L TDI. Really love this one, although in all honesty it very well may be overpriced compared to other brand offers. It does get slightly better fuel economy, despite being quite a bit heavier/bigger.

I have a 2007 Fahrenheit GTI. Fun little car when it is working correctly. I don't entirely blame VW for it, though. It has nearly 140000 miles on it, and I don't really have the funds to get it proper.

Re: Headline News Thread

I had an Audi GT Coupe and later a Quattro in the late 80's early 90's and can't say that I'd ever want to return to the brand.

Meh. Never been clear to me why recreational drug use is a law enforcement issue. If people commit mischief while on drugs, hold them responsible. If they don't, then there's no problem. If there's abuse and addiction, that's a health concern. Might as well criminalize overeating.

Patience. If it's bad for you, you will be punished. After all, Big Mother knows what's best!

Re: Headline News Thread

I have less of an issue with marijuana being decriminalized.

"Hard" drugs like coke, heroin, ecstasy, meth, etc. I have serious issues with being legalized...

I've always thought we have a really interesting situation in this country as it relates to drugs and alcohol. For both, we criminalize mischief created while using or suffering from the effects of them. But for only one do we criminalize the actual use (ignoring the minors issue).

Neither option has the effect of either eliminating use or mischief.

If I'm reading this correctly, not only did the Liberal party win the election in Canada, but they also have a clean majority.

Attitudes towards alcohol have changed greatly, IMO, though. It is definitely not socially acceptable to have a few drinks and drive, whereas only a couple decades ago, it was no big deal.
Marijuana attitudes are slowly changing, but I think that will be a slower change because it's actually labeled a "drug" by society.

While it is not my thing, I'm for the legalization of marijuana, as long as it's regulated/etc similar to alcohol. It's probably "better" (for lack of a better term) for you than cigarettes, too, all things being considered.

Same here. No interest in sparking up, but for goodness' sake, it's harmless when it's done right (unlike a lot of legal substances).
