Re: Headline News Thread

Not sure this is a real account, but...

Re: Headline News Thread

OK, I'm done until further notice. Some nutter who was clearly an airport or airline employee hijacked a commercial plane, somehow got through the necessary procedures to get in the air, and then went nuts?

It all makes total sense...

It's so comical (yes, tragic, too, but look at it from our eyes).

Re: Headline News Thread

OK, last one, I swear. This one's official:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">An airline employee conducted an unauthorized takeoff without passengers at Sea-Tac; aircraft has crashed in south Puget Sound. Normal operations at Sea-Tac Airport have resumed.</p>— Sea-Tac Airport (@SeaTacAirport) <a href="https://twitter.com/SeaTacAirport/status/1028136857190584320?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 11, 2018</a></blockquote>

Re: Headline News Thread

Crash reports now. Also many, many reports it was a Horizon Air Dash-8 Q400 (Alaska Air regional subsidiary).

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Some dude stole a plane from <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Seatac?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Seatac</a> (Allegedly), did a loop-the-loop, ALMOST crashed into <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/ChambersBay?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#ChambersBay</a>, then crossed in front of our party, chased by fighter jets and subsequently crashed. Weird times. <a href="https://t.co/Ra4LcIhwfU">pic.twitter.com/Ra4LcIhwfU</a></p>— bmbdgty (@drbmbdgty) <a href="https://twitter.com/drbmbdgty/status/1028130383911501824?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 11, 2018</a></blockquote>

Yes, it was a Horizon Q.

I'm guessing it was a mechanic. They would know how to start the engines and taxi. Taking a plane off is easy. Landing is the hard part.

Oh, I agree, which is why if this person isn't an airport employee, I'd be shocked. They know enough to be dangerous, but not enough to follow-through.

Anyone can fly - I did a "discovery" flight when I was 16. Landing is ultimately all about well-timed drag (while coordinating with other aircraft on the same approach).

Why am I telling a UND Av grad this? I'll shut-up now. :p

:D

Looks like I was right. 29 year old mechanic.

Re: Headline News Thread

Is an ESL student in charge of this account?

Re: Headline News Thread

The radio exchange is eerie. Really eerie. He knew what he was doing, and just didn't care. :(

Re: Headline News Thread

Wow. 20-25 homes are in flames. Boy, its hard to imagine everyones OK.

Way more than that. Count is >50 now. Some reports saying 2 dead. Telling anyone who has this gas company supplying them to get out of their house. That is a lot of people!

Re: Headline News Thread

Sounds like it might be an overpressurization in the city main. That’s really ****ing bad. New fires being reported.

Re: Headline News Thread

Three cities are being evacuated.

Just an FYI since I thought I saw Merrimack was up that way and might have some people here reading or know someone. Don’t open windows or doors. Just get out if you smell gas. Opening windows and doors can create an explosive atmosphere where one didn’t exist.
