HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

What's the over/under on a 3+ hour game tonight? Might as well sit Diamond he won't make it through the 1st period.
Joey penalty within the first 3 minutes, Mangene within 5 minutes. Abbott doesn't take the bait, neither does Flynn

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

Predictions?

MC 3-0
Its Timmay time:D

More pressure on the Maine team? or on Timmay. Lose tonight and it might be bye bye. I'll bet Timmay pulls a nutty if the game is anything like last night

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

Amen! Mainers have the weirdest mentality when it comes to collegiate sports......never seen anything like it anywhere else in the country. Stoic and well-behaved to a fault........but also slightly detached and ho-hum. I guess that only hunting and the weather get people worked up.

The atmosphere at the Alfond waned a bit after 93, imo. It turned into a social event. You weren't somebody unless you were seen at the Maine game. It still got deafening during games for quite awhile after those years, but its been slowly declining since then. The students have always been great, but like teams need secondary scoring to be truely successful, the students need secondary cheering. Of course success has a lot to do with crowd participation, so its not surprising home crowds don't cheer as hard as they once did.

Sometimes when I hear folks claiming that "it was so loud" or "the air was electric" and some have no idea what it was like back then. (deep sigh)

Maine Hockey: always longing for the 'good ol days'

The second BC game at home this year was loud. I'm not buying it, Alfond is still a rocking place.

Maine 3 -2. Should be a good one. Was nice to hear MC players interview and how the Alfond was such a blast to skate in b/c of the fans and noise. #1 rink, GO BLUE!!!

It was the expansion in 1992. Games became a social event AND the local townie who was a major part of why it was so loud was priced out. Even in 1993, in the game after the "1" we were ahead 2-0 and BU scored a goal. Alfond was quieter than it was last night. I was in my box up behind BB and I could clearly hear the BU fans. And the fans in front of me overheard my disgust with their silence. I thought I'd have to lower an extension cord and rappel down to the concourse..

Crowd got there early

Wish I were there. Standing in the lines outside and yakking with really nice peeps... it WAS always a nice social event.

 I'm not selling it. Just a fact. Before the expansion, Alfond sat 3600 (according to wiki) My folks could never get tickets and I always had to do standing room only. The 'concourse' was 4-5 feet wide and if you didn't have a place before the puck dropped, you were not moving until the intermission. That place was insane.

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

Can someone post the link to the 8.95 stream of the game, in case WPME does not show it? I have a really bad feeling they will not show it...

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

No, smuggling beer into their opponent's rink took care of any concerns over whether they were classless or not.
Rumor has it that this is the 1st time students of ANY college have brought smuggled alcoholic beverages into a sporting event. The horror!!!

Right? Who gives a d@mn. The issue comes from the trash left behind, I think. Whatever. Hopefully Mack loses and their fans drink their way out of Maine. It is a long drive when not happy.

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

Cerratani played last night in place of Swavely so no change there. Was hoping to see Rutt in the lineup as they could use his physical play.
Pryor was absolutely lost last night, Rutt would have been a welcome change

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

As much as I'd hate to say it, I'm sticking with my prediction before the series began:
Game 1 - maine 3-1 (ENG)...Man, almost hit that one but the puck went wide LOL
Game 2 - Merrimack 4-2...D*** you Kolomatis for ruining that one
Game 3 - Maine 3-2 OT...God I hope I'm wrong...but been right so far...

GO MACK!!!

Yes, because that's exactly what I said.
