HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

Can anyone explain how Diamond can pull the cage loose from Blys helmet with an offical standing right there and its not a facemask penalty? Was he whistled earlier in the game for a facemask? Should be an automatic game suspension according to NCAA rule book.

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

To actually see this written. That Maine fans are complaining about the MC fans in their house, well that just brings a smile to my face.

Go cry in your log cabin. :)

The MC crowd is classless, hurling out profanities in a family crowd setting. But that's the norm for you guys, right?

We'll see who cries tonight :D

Watching the game on TV last night they announced it as a facemask penalty. I don't know about the NCAA rule about game suspension though...

Better than the Rough em up F*(@ em up BC sucks chant that is cleeeearly audible on NESN over at agganis.

According to the rule book Diamond should not be playing tonight.

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

You forgot "he's a player you'd love to have on your team but hate to play against him" routine.

I'd rather go 0-36 than have thugs like Diamond on my team. Didn't he get arrested his first week on campus? I find it awfully hard pulling for a team that gladly accepts players of his ilk (see Prestin Ryan, Robert Liscak, Brendan Walsh, etc, etc....)

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

The guy who tweeted facemasking was an auto DQ cited a Merrimack player being given a postgame DQ for facemasking earlier in the season.

He later tweeted that he was wrong, the NCAA rulebook does indeed have a 5-min major for facemasking without a DQ, essentially "facewashing." The auto-DQ is supposed to be for dragging a guy down by the mask or jerking the neck/head. Since he didn't get a 10, much less a DQ, it seems the refs meant to assess the first one. He should be the clear tonight.

He looses his cool sometimes but he is not a thug. He has way too much skill to be called a thug. A thug is a guy with no business on the ice that just plays to be a goon. Joey is maybe the third most natural goal scorer in the league. That's what makes his poor decision making so frustrating. But thug, no.

It was summer before enrolling, IIRC... and if I remember correctly again, didn't Cam and Tommy Atkinson have a little issue with the police just prior to enrollment at BC?
As a die hard BC fan, I'm not buying into the 'holier than thou' crap. We've had our share of bad boys at BC and it's a good thing we did.

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

I agree he's got talent, but still, I just don't want that type of player representing my school (see arrest before even playing one game). Just my opinion, you are obviously welcome to yours.

Sure, they got into a fight, not a big deal in my opinion, but did either of them ever do anything to even slightly embarrass the program while enrolled?

Keep spinning it fool.

ASSAULT
Thomas Atkinson, 50, and his two sons Cam Atkinson, 19, and Tommy Atkinson, 20, were arrested Aug. 19 and charged with breach of peace. According to police, the senior Atkinson was driving and attempting to make a left-hand turn from Sheephill Road onto East Putnam Avenue when he was cut off by three teens on bicycles. Atkinson reportedly began exchanging profanities with one of the teens as they all rode onto East Putnam Avenue. When they all reached the McDonald’s parking lot in Riverside, Atkinson reportedly contacted his sons, Cam and Tommy, and they responded to the scene to confront the teens. The two younger Atkinsons allegedly began kicking and punching the boy who had gotten into the argument with their father, injuring the boy’s forehead. Cam and Tommy Atkinson were also charged with third degree assault. The men were released on promises to appear and are due in court Aug. 27.

Neither has Diamond, I don't think anything that happens on-ice has risen to the level of embarrassment.

What's the list of Hockey East players with 40 points and 100 PIMs in a season look like? I'd love to see it. I believe for Maine its Diamond, Peter Ferraro and that's it.

*EDIT* Since we're talking BC holiness, Brian Boyle his senior year had 53 points and 104 PIMs. He a thug or an embarrassment?

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

LOL. Diamond embarrassed Maine for shooting a moon, but the Atkinsons didn't embarrass BC for beating up on some young kids? Okey-dokey.
FWIW... I don't think either example was embarrassing to their programs, just to themselves at the time. Teenage kids make mistakes some times.
Also FWIW, I'd take a Diamond or Prestin Ryan on my team any time.

Re: HEA QF's: #5 'Mack @ #4 Maine

Like I said, they got into a fight. Show me what they were convicted of. Furthermore, like I said, there's a big difference between a guy who had a run-in with the cops before college but was never a problem while enrolled, vs holding on to a kid that's been nothing but a punk while enrolled. BC has also had some screwballs, but my point is that they get rid of them immediately, whereas Maine just looks the other way.

This. Thank you for using your head.

It's not a question of whether or not Diamond is a thug - but rather if he plays by the rules. Here are the 2011 rule changes, see #2, section D...technically, facewashing is a major penalty, but in watching 20 or so games this year it has barely been called IMO. But if you look at the video, Diamond not only facewashed Rhett Bly, he pulled on the facemask and disconnected it from the helmet. It's a violation, plain and simple.
