Re: He says he's not dead.

I'm with you guys. Wonder what a ticket would cost for something like that today. It would probably rival the Condcorde at its peak.

Sounds about right. One way passage on the Hindenburg was $450, IIRC. That works out to about $7500 today.

I can see what you guys are saying about it being kinda cool, but I don't think I could justify doing it for $7500. I have many other trips/vacations that would come before a Zeppelin ride, for $7500.

No question, it would be way expensive. Most of us couldn't afford it. But there are lots of people who could. Would it be possible to convince them?

On the Hindenburg, passengers put their shoes outside their state rooms at night. They would be shined and returned by morning.

Hey, give Carnivale and Norwegian Cruise Lines a call....it's like an ocean cruise without the seasickness (or the reefs)!

Exactly. BTW, that was the approach in the old days, too.

This video gives a pretty good idea of what the passenger accomodations were like. The showers and smoking room were on the lower level.

A modern dirigible would, I think, have to do away with communal showers. But think of all the advances in materials, plumbing, wiring, lighting, sound deadening, air handling and such in the past 75 years. I think the thing would be lighter and stronger than its predecessors. And much more comfortable. With way more amenities. Like hi-def screens in each cabin offering a huge variety of video choices, including live cam shots from outside the ship. Although passengers on the Hindenburg weren't exactly galley slaves.

I don't think that you have to be a Colbert fan to enjoy this interview.
