HE Quarterfinals - #8 Maine @ #1 Lowell

Re: HE Quarterfinals - #8 Maine @ #1 Lowell

Overall I thought it was a slow paced, plodding and rather boring game. Changed because of UMass Lowell's flurry there to start the third, UML certainly had the better of the rush. Seemed like Maine just had no speed, can't generate anything off the rush at all. I didn't think it was well officiated. The stuff they called, I didn't see, the stuff they didn't call seemed worse. On both sides.

The nonsense 50 feet away from the play between Diamond and Thompson was absurd, A) You have to match that up and B) Maybe if Joey's in front of the net when Shore shot there they score, instead he's jawing with a ref and Thompson at center ice and then comes barreling in and gets a clipping call. He did draw two before that though. Thought Maine no scoring on their 3rd PP to make it 2-0 was a turning point.

Marty played OK in spurts, could've controlled his rebounds better on the 3rd goal, maybe on the second one too.

Shore's last goal was pretty, worth watching the video.

Not a ton that was particularly impressive on either team to be brutally honest. Didn't walk out of the rink saying "Jeez player X is for real" about anybody.

Re: HE Quarterfinals - #8 Maine @ #1 Lowell

3,070 listed in box score. that's not even bad for any HE QF venue, nevermind when played on a thursday night and against maine.

Re: HE Quarterfinals - #8 Maine @ #1 Lowell

Then don't complain about home fans cheering then. And by the way, where was Maine in attendance this year? UML was 11th in the country, sorry it was Spring Break and a lousy Thursday night game.

If you don't want a Thursday game don't book boxing on the quarterfinal Saturday. The two games I went to at Tsongas this year the place was just as empty as its ever been. Maybe you banged the place out for Merrimack I don't know or care.

So hopefully tomorrow night you'll be over in 115 then and won't sit in a home section. And please don't put UML fans in the same gutter class as Amherst fans as I will never, ever go to Mullins ever again as the swearing (I mean real swearing, not suck by the way) and classless cheers are just horrible. Phone calls to Amherst and HE by the way did nothing many years ago to change anything out there. Lowell fans are pretty clean and we're proud of that, unlike the so-called flagship school's fans. And if anything is over the top, it's clamped down on pretty quickly, usually by Lowell fans themselves who keep it pretty clean.

We're having this conversation with Maine fans? Really?

Re: HE Quarterfinals - #8 Maine @ #1 Lowell

3,070 is pretty good considering Thursday night and spring break which left student sections at around 50%. We're expecting a lot more tomorrow, especially local families and kids groups as it obviously won't be a school night. Lowell's been averaged 5,236 for home games with a couple sellouts including one game with over 7,000 where they sold nearly 1,000 standing room only tickets. Pretty happy with the turn out all season.

Are many Maine fans staying in area or god-forbid, travelling back and forth? What a haul that must be.

Matching? That nonsense started with a Diamond slew foot that should have ended with him being ejected. Dirty, dirty play. He was **** lucky he only got 2 minutes for that, a "clipping" and the a punch he got away free with. He is lucky it is college hockey, otherwise he would have a serious price to pay.

I gotta say that some of the idiocy coming out of a lot of the mouths of the 40 and 50 year old lowell fans (in section 107) should make the entire fan base ashamed.
I know that at Alfond, we would have told them that it makes Maine fans look bad to keep asking why that was icing and why wasn't that interference, and why (when Lowell steps on a Maine stick) that isn't tripping and on and on and on.

Joe Bertagna didn't seem to have a problem with it and he sat behind me all night in section 106 on the end right next to 107.....

The questions on icing and calls for tripping were sarcasm mostly related to the crap officiating we had. Phantom trips and icings waved off for no reason both ways. You would have known that if you watched the game but you were too busy mulling over your words to post here instead of watching the game.

We'll just have to ask you know who to sell oxycodone milkshakes at tomorrow night's game.

Yes, Bertagna babysat us all night and no prob at all. And yes I think the concept of sarcasm was lost by the Maine fans in 107. The regulars there know the drill and honestly, many were in stitches all night. Maine fans have no sense of humor and take things too literally and/or seriously.

Don't send them over my way. We had some knowledgable Maine fans in front of us who were funny and had a nice conversation. We all thought the officiating wa a bit creative. We also had some blond ditz who was yelling about how we should be shamed for hiring such biased refs but that just made us laugh.

The Maine fans in front of us didn't have much positive to say about Joey Diamond. They pronounced him a first class idiot. One of the guys went off in a tirade about how his lack of discipline cost them the UNH game and a litany of other stupid things he has done that went back to last season. (not sure which was more impressive- the resume the guy quoted or the fact he could remember all the things he did).

Good, after tomorrow you won't have to worry about going to any more games this season anyway.

LOL! If you didn't find Scott Wilson's play tonight exciting just stop watching the sport, because you obviously don't know a thing about hockey.

leslie, that is kind of you to write... I have enjoyed sitting with you and your kids at lowell games over the years.... although I was not with you tonight
you have always been a class act!!

Re: HE Quarterfinals - #8 Maine @ #1 Lowell

why WOULD Bertagna have a problem with any of it?

no, it was not sarcasm, it was a bunch of whiners who do not know the game... I know the difference...

the garbage that the 50 year olds were yelling at the Maine players... "you suck" I noticed you did not care to leave that in my "deleted post" what a classy group.

nor did you leave in the part about your fans not knowing the words to the national anthem.

I was going to take the high road and delete the anti lowell crap because I like the team and not all of your fans are idiots (I mean I did speak with one of my Lowell professors from when I took classes there... and who was also in section 107...and he was ashamed of the crap your fans were yelling)

You're absolutely right. Lowell is the only fan base in all of college hockey to do a "sieve, you suck" chant. Mother of God, won't someone think of the children?

50 year old hecklers... just because their fan base isn't creative doesn't make it our fault.

LOL! Oh the humanity! All I know was that the usuals all around 107 were having a great time, families included. The abuse and verbal garbage UML fans have been subjected to along with other crap at away venues through the years makes our fans the choirboys of Hockey East. Ever have a knife pulled on you before at a game? No? Then go to BU and old Walter Brown arena? Ever have a Barney Fife cop at UNH actually commit a possible civil rights violation against one of your fans? No? Welcome to being a UML fan (by the way, UNH issued a formal apology the next evening to said fan). So please spare us that a few "sucks' have scarred you for life when there are many other rinks where far worse goes on.

Re: HE Quarterfinals - #8 Maine @ #1 Lowell

The fan base right now is a shadow of its former self. Tough to be enthusiastic when so many are thoroughly demoralized. A couple of the fans I sat near tonight were so disgusted that I wondered why they bothered to come. A far cry from yrs ago when the MAINE cheer would ricochet around the rink no matter who was winning.

So true. Maine used to travel in huge numbers but again, it was a Thursday night and I was actually impressed with how many did make the trek given that. But they were very quiet, even up to the end of the 2nd/beginning of the third when they were still in the game. Expected more general support/cheering including cowbell or something or even that big flag they used to bring everywhere. Has Timmy so totally sucked the life force out of the program and fans in Maine like he did in Lowell?
