Did not watch him in the regionals but since I see many WCHA games, probably have watched him more than you. 1 goal on the PP last year (of 3 for the season) and 29 assists, many I am sure on the PP. 32 points total with a +/- of +5.
He is the typical smallish offensive defenseman that is probably too slow to play forward, too small to be physical on D. Yes, his hockey sense is good, otherwise he would not have the assist total he had last year. But that does not mean he is the complete package as a defenseman. And that is what you should be if you are in the running for the Hobey.
Last years Hobey, Matt Gilroy had 37 points and was a +22. Genoway is no Jordan Leopold or Matt Carle either (the last 2 D before Gilroy to win the Hobey).
How in the heck did this morph from an "Is Merrimack Back" thread into a "Marcou for Hobey" thread?
Merrimack has about two threads on this board, is it really necessary to hijack one of them?![]()
Don't go getting all excited about another thread. This is actually a recap of HE after October thread; the Merrimack part is the sub-title.How in the heck did this morph from an "Is Merrimack Back" thread into a "Marcou for Hobey" thread?

Wouldn't Merrimack had to have been there in the first place in order to be "back"?

In 1989 the year before they joined HEA they just missed making the tournament under controversial circumstances.
Was Benedetto involved?![]()

**** you! Do you know how long I had to wait in traffic because of this? And I've never even once thought anything bad about Marcou ever.![]()
Chief- If Merrimak keeps this up, I fully expect a MC fan to start a "Kick BU Out of Hockey East!!" thread just for the sake of pay back.
Merrimack was in the 1988 NCAA tournament as an independent and eliminated the HEA champion, Northeastern in the first round. In 1989 the year before they joined HEA they just missed making the tournament under controversial circumstances.
Well... controversial might be a stretch. Disappointing circumstances, yes.
What kind of schedule was MC playing as an independent? I know UMass killed everyone as an independent, but they played an awful schedule. Niagara had that season where they won like 32 games, but I don't think they played too many teams of consequence (until UNH, right?).

Here's the schedule from the Merrimack media guide (page 58) for the 1988/1989 season, the year before joining Hockey East. I believe Alaska Anchorage, Alabama Huntsville & Notre Dame were all DI Indepedents at the time. Union was DIII.
