HE after October: Is Merrimack Back???

Re: HE after October: Is Merrimack Back???

After attending today's game, call me impressed. Merrimack played a terrific game. They outskated a very fast BC team, and they were very aggressive and hard working with a great forecheck all game long. The speed of the forwards (especially Da Costa and his linemates) really caught BC's defenders off guard a few times. Anyway, today's game is the first I've seen of Merrimack this year and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how good they looked. This could be a fun season for the Warriors fans.

Re: HE after October: Is Merrimack Back???

No, they are not a good team. They play for a tough ***** coach, but I know of many of the players on that team. Saw alot of them in the USHL and there is a reason they go to UNO. They are playing way over their heads. They won't be a top 20 team when the season is over.

They may not be a top 20 team when the season is over, but neither will UVM.

UNO>UVM

Re: HE after October: Is Merrimack Back???

My question is how will BC turn out this season? They lost scoring with Bradford, Ferraro, etc and the only regular returning defenseman is Carl Sneep. Is Muse still feeling the effects of surgery? If so, we might see a lot of Parker Milner this year. This was a team who was expected to be in the top 3 or so in Hockey East, but losing players like Bradford are hard to replace. After Gerbe left in 08, the team seemed to really take a loss in the scoring department, and certainly probably still feel those effects, after losing even more players. So my question is, is Merrimack good, or has Hockey East found parity in that BC is no longer a power team?

Parity.

And yes, James Marcou should be an early candidate for Hobey. 11 points in 5 games. Have enjoyed watching him play since I saw him play in Waterloo. UMass-A should be a big benefactor in a parity driven Hockey East, already 3-1 in league play.

Re: HE after October: Is Merrimack Back???

Yeah, Lowell lost to the "lowly" #12 team in the country. Sorry we couldn't have lost to Merrimack and Maine instead. How's the incredible Vermont defense* treating ya? Thought so.

Don't worry, there's still time! :)

Actually, nothing would please me more than to continue to see Merrimack, Lowell and Amherst in the top half of the league. Now if only we can get NU up there too, things will feel just like old times (sort of).

Should he be? Probably. Will he? Not unless UMass can really make some noise in this "parity" of a league we call Hockey East. Traditionally the award goes to a player of a team who has done exceptionally well, most of the recent awards were given to those who made the Frozen Four. My pick for now is Chay Genoway.

UMass could make it to the playoffs this year, time will tell. If so, Marcou will be a significant reason for their success.

Chay Genoway is a defensive liability. Sure he scores a lot of points and is in the middle of any surge by the Sioux but it seems like he is on the ice for a lot of goals against too. Right now he has 4 goals, 3 assists, 7 points and his plus/minus is 0.

Re: HE after October: Is Merrimack Back???

Yes, you are correct, he was as I re-read his post. The question becomes, will he be 6-2 or 5-3 after next Sunday?

Don't forget 5-2-1!

PC never plays that well at the Gutt. Sigh.

Marcou is awesome. Not only did he score the empty netter at the Coffin after I made the mistake of yelling "Diver!" at him on a play where he never dove, but he made 3 lanes on 95 North close from Providence all the way to Boston, just to teach me the error of my ways.

Now I can have to kill 300 heads of cattle and burn them so Marcou will stop smiting me from Mount Olympus.

are you serious? he is arguably the top defenseman in the country in terms of his scoring ability, playmaking, and speed. if you didn't notice, lots of defenseman have low +/- ratings, it just comes as part of the job. calling genoway a liability is one of the dumbest thing i have ever seen on this board.

Did you watch him in regionals last year? I was more impressed by his defense than his offense, and he was great on offense. As for the +/-, all 4 of his goals this year have come on the PP, so they have no effect on +/-. Speaking of the PP, he's arguably the best PP QB in the country.

Did not watch him in the regionals but since I see many WCHA games, probably have watched him more than you. 1 goal on the PP last year (of 3 for the season) and 29 assists, many I am sure on the PP. 32 points total with a +/- of +5.

He is the typical smallish offensive defenseman that is probably too slow to play forward, too small to be physical on D. Yes, his hockey sense is good, otherwise he would not have the assist total he had last year. But that does not mean he is the complete package as a defenseman. And that is what you should be if you are in the running for the Hobey.

Last years Hobey, Matt Gilroy had 37 points and was a +22. Genoway is no Jordan Leopold or Matt Carle either (the last 2 D before Gilroy to win the Hobey).

**** you! Do you know how long I had to wait in traffic because of this? And I've never even once thought anything bad about Marcou ever.:D
