Harvard Women's Hockey 2011-2012: Taking the Next Step (Fannies)

We (Green) put fannies in seats. U all don't. U Major City/we home-grown home-town small (no four newspapers/tabloids found in Hong Kong, London, all over; other than, "Upper Valley News", circ., 14,567.)

Here is someone proactive- telling U (Crimson) y he/she- a fanny, might not attend yr. Bright (fanny) Center, making solid suggestions. Yes.

U all discount him/her, (and us, by the way) (for doing what U aren't doing.) (See above)

As well, U have (lots of) reasons Y we do U don't (have fannies.) Listen and learn here (maybe). his complaint. Say where he/she might pahk cheap, etc. Be neighborly, friendly, small-townish...

Huh?

Harvard has the lead. I would enjoy to see the Crimson defeat the Big Green.

Re: Harvard Women's Hockey 2011-2012: Taking the Next Step

Re the Papulaisle post quoted above...as Swift put it in A Tale of a Tub, "and that, I believe, provides a complete and elegant explanation of the matter."

What have we witnessed in the last two H-D contests, besides a lot of exciting, disciplined hockey? Parity, parity in the next-to-top rung of the ECAC. While it's much too early to count out Q and others who might end up running away with second place, if it remains a H-D rung, and if those teams continue as they have, then they're going to split ECAC points and, more importantly, split Top 10 votes right up until the ECAC tournament finally forces a decision between them (unless one pulls ahead during the season and then loses to the other in the tourney...amd they still end up splitting top 10 votes!)

I've never been a fan of home-and-away, won't see you again until March scheduling, but this year's schedule is particularly annoying in that regard. Just as we're psyched for the rematch with D, all of a sudden the rematch has transpired and.. all we've done is kissed our kid sisters.....

Re: Harvard Women's Hockey 2011-2012: Taking the Next Step

Earlier in this decade, we had more games that drew 1000+ especially when Dartmouth and UNH came to town. Not any more. 500 plus or minus 100 is about the norm and sometimes it isn't even that big. Fact is women's hockey is getting lost in the shuffle of other sports, college and pro. UNH, Dartmouth, Cornell and other schools have captive markets because there isn't much competition for the sports dollar. Harvard competes with BU, BC, Northeastern and our pro teams for every nickel and we aren't marketing demons.

I don't think we ever have 1000+ attendance any more, and we rarely did in the past. Average actual attendance these days is well under 500, even counting the band.

The women's games used to be free... I know that's not likely to happen again, but it does make it jarring to pay fifteen bucks.

Rats.
Squeaker.
If this lad (fanny) had-a been there (The Maniac), maybe it could-a (would-a) been different. Yeah.
More 'rubber' matches to come.

I never been to Harvard 'Yard'. I played lacrosse at Harvard- I think twice (we always prevailed).

U women quite good-fast, this and last year. Solid team- were lacking some w. goal but has exp. now. I saw them play twice. They are fun to watch. Very much. Go see them (if u can find pahking in the Yahd!)

This year they will do even better I am thinking. U have former Syr. coach (as yr. coach.) Some say Gary Gait-great player at Syr. (in college) got job at S. by name (great player in pros, too) after yr. now coach built first wmn's team there (G.G. is currently Syracuse coach, as I said- wears suits to games; nicknamed, naturally..."the suit"!)

I a 'pollster'- rate college and university div. one women's teams at lacrosse (web) site.

More-most-importantly, is word (Yard) a special to Harvard, say, only? Like, would other U's or C's have a, "Yard" or , have, "Yards"? Maybe, say, "Idaho Yards"? Or, "UTEP Yard"? Even, "Princeton Yard"? Or maybe kind-a like stock, rail, back, fore-top, square. . . ?

Do u rival have yard? Eli.
Some one might say- "O, pahked at the Yale Yard." Capitalize name, place, thing? Only one (yard)? Felt it should be capitalized.

Anyone?

I would suggest contacting the Romance Languages and Lit department at Harvard. Failing that, the CIA?

I'm thinking to get on the same wavelength a visit with Timothy Leary might be in order.

Re: Harvard Women's Hockey 2011-2012: Taking the Next Step

Harvard 5
Providence 1

Good game by the Crimson tonight against Providence, as they pretty much took away the middle and any second chances the Friars might have. Conversely, the Friars did a poor job of helping out LaCasse and it cost them dearly.

Wow!!!

Bartender, I'll have one of whatever he's drinking.

Not sure what that all means.

But there are some points made above about parking. For one person to go to the game comes to $25 including the $10 for parking. A bit annoying when often Harvard has scheduled non-Harvard events and you end up parking out past the soccer fields, You feel like you are walking in from Dedham on rutted frozen mud. A couple of years I broke my nose after falling walking in from parking for a women's game. I might have missed the game but I refused to let the nice ambulance people take me away and went to the game bloody but happy not to miss a game. $10 for dangerous parking is a lot.

Caution - Someone above talked about getting there before they start collecting or some games when no one is collecting. Before the parking attendants get there and on no attendant games there are parking meters. Easy to miss as the signage os very poor but you have to park, go to a meter and bring the meter receipt back and place it in view on your dashboard. If you don't you get a ticket and at one of the games earlier this season there were a lot of tickets issued.

Miss Dempsey dekes and flips a nice backhander into the twine for a shorty.

Re: Harvard Women's Hockey 2011-2012: Taking the Next Step

Some first half thoughts after two good wins over mediocre Hockey East competition.

1. The team is pretty much where I thought they would be. In the top four in their conference while not really competitive against top teams such as Minnesota and Cornell. They lack scoring punch from the second and third lines although Elizabeth Parker is showing some promise. Bellamy has played well and is a key to any success they will enjoy going forward.

2. The lack of depth hurts them against the top teams. You can see it especially at the end of close games. Hopefully they will have a deeper recruiting class coming in next year.

3. I think they will finish somewhere between 2 and 4 in the conference and will be a better team by the end of the season. Not good enough to go to the NCAAs but they'll put a scare into some of their conference brethren. Next year will be different.

4. I hope the injury that has kept Alyssa Baumgartner out for this season heals enough for her to take some shifts before the end of the year. She has worked hard to improve her skating and overall play and it would be a shame in her senior season as captain to not at least take some shifts with her teammates. Reminds me of what Laura Brady went through with her injury in her senior season. Touching moment when she got a few shifts on Senior Night.

If the season ended today, Harvard would be the sixth team in the Pairwise Rankings. If the Crimson beat the teams they are supposed to beat and have a decent Beanpot, they are a good bet to make the NCAAs.

Right now would not bet against them. Although I picked Quinny 2 and Harvard 3 at the start of the season, looks to me based on results todate, that Harvard is the more likely team to finish in the two spot, giving them home advantage in the ECAC semis.

It would be surprising if there are not two teams from the ECAC in the NCAA's, and right now Harvard is the second best team from the ECAC results wise in the important games towards that effect.
