Harvard Men's Hockey 2021-2022

My takeaway from last night's game is that Q's defense is quite impressive. I think they could go a long way. Harvard is showing signs of improvement. They are not as quick as I thought they were at first look this year. Building a tighter team will take some time.

Quinnipiac reminds me of Cornell teams in years past. Tough defense and opportunistic scoring. I don’t agree about Harvard‘s quickness and speed. I actually think they are quicker than previous seasons.

Anyone watching this game? It is completely garbled on the ESPN+ feed. You can't attend the game because of COVID and the transmission is screwed up. Amazing anyone follows this program.

Hey faithful. Hope everyone is doing well and healthy. Strange team this year. Great start and then the team has really hit a wall. Too much finesse, not enough guys going to the net, too easy to play against. Siedem and Wong just complete anomalies in terms of degradation from 2yrs ago. Coronato seems to have hit the freshman wall. Team is just very inconsistent / fragile from period to period and even 5 minute window to 5 minute window. They can best Cornell, but I think Cornell’s style will be tough for Harvard. Need to win a 2-1 game, stay out of the box, and capitalize on PPs (harvard pp has not been good because it is so stagnant, no movement etc.)

I don't expect much out of them this year, as they are a young team. I find Coronato a mystery, a decent player but no evidence of why he was picked in the first round of the draft. At least we can go back to attending the games now.

Really good weekend although we should have come away with a win in regulation against Cornell. After the first eight minutes or so of the first period, the Crimson dominated the Big Red and had some excellent chances to tie the game. They carried it through to the second period and really should have been up 3-1 or 4-1. After Shane's save on Baker Shore, the ice tilted and Cornell got back into it. Third period and OT were back and forth although Cornell seemed to have the better chances.

Give Matthew Coronato time to develop. Jimmy Vesey had to adjust and he turned out fine. I think Coronato will as well.

Agree with posters about the team's up and down performance and I attribute that to youth and inexperience. Teddy seems reluctant to lean on some of the frosh but he really has no choice. I looked at this year as a bridge to 2023 and 2024 when I expect them to challenge for a national ranking. This is really a bonus in my mind.

Tough to lose both Farrell and Abruzzese for the rest of the season. Hopefully we can finish in the top four. I think we've got enough space between us and Union and RPI (don't imagine Union will threaten given what's happened with their coaching situation).

On to BC.

Looked like Harvard was asleep against BC and down 3-0 until the fight. Then they exploded. Wow!

BC taking some incredibly stupid penalties including the major did a lot to help the Crimson. Still, down our two best forwards, the team showed resiliency which they will need for the rest of the regular season.

Last night's game felt like a tale of two hockey games. For the first period and a half, Harvard dominated and looked to be on their way to an easy win. Then came the two-man short penalty kill, the Dartmouth goal near the end of the penalties (and that really should not have happened had the Crimson made that one last clear) and of all of sudden, Harvard went flat. No juice and a lot of sloppy play. Perhaps it was the 4 games in 7 days stretch with two toughies at Colgate and Cornell followed by the BC comeback. They are also missing Farrell and Abruzezze at the Olympics. Who knows? This will not be an easy month. The coaching staff will have to use the entire bench which means a number of young players getting minutes where they otherwise would not be playing. Hopefully it all works out. On to BU.

The final score from last night doesn't reflect the dominance that Harvard exhibited in this game. I wasn't really worried about losing to the Eli. As much trouble as we have had finishing lately, Yale can't seem to find Long Island Sound with any of their attempts.

We need production from the other lines until Farrell and Abruzezze return from the Olympics (which off the game against Canada may not be until the final regular season trip to Union and RPI). And I think if we can beat Princeton at least once in the next two weeks, we should clinch the Ivies.

Harvard picks up Phil Tresca on the recruiting front. Nice get and should contribute next year. His sister is a Junior on he women's team I believe

Katie Tresca has had some injury issues and is sitting out this season. Hoping that she can play next year and maybe get an exemption for another season beyond that.

Team USA beat Germany and are through to the quarters. Which means we will probably not see Sean Farrell or Nick Abruzzese until the final weekend of the season. Abruzzese had two assists today.

The funny thing is that Harvard's PP has been better without those guys. Hockey can be a weird sport sometimes.

Not sure how Harvard will handle folks who missed a year to COVID (ie, this year's seniors). But assuming they do not get an extra year of eligibility, below is the updated tracker with recruits and projected lines: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...8tF9rB8WtU6njO6IiZ2bIDiEGk/edit#gid=174036134

Didn't the Ivies eliminate the 'grad year' exemption? Or will a special exception be made because of COVID? Given how thin the incoming class looks at the moment, I'm hoping one or two of the seniors (Dornbach maybe?) get an exemption and come back for another season. Can only help.

Don't know if any of you saw last night's game. Sean Farrell got absolutely walloped by a Princeton D coming across the blue line. It looks like a concussion or possibly a shoulder separation. Hoping for the best but bracing for the worst (that he's out until the playoffs).

Wow! That was a fun game to watch tonight. Watching these two teams both play well gave me the sensation I was watching a playoff game. I am impressed with some of the younger players. Gaffney positively flies at times And Ian Moore plays with poise and skill. As there were just 6 players for Senior night, it was a reminder they will have almost everyone back next year. Hard to figure how far they will go this year. What are you all thinking in that regard?

More worried about the concussion than the shoulder, though it could be both. Harvard should have a first round bye so hopefully he will be ready in 3 weeks when the playoffs start for Harvard.

Not sure how the PWR will work and I was hoping the Quinny win would give them more lift. Wondering if Harvard has to win the ECACs to make the NCAAs, which likely means beating Clarkson & Quinny.

This season was likely always going to be a bridge to next. Not sure if guys like Abruzesse and Thrun stay....but if they do, Harvard will be poised for a deep run next year if they stay healthy.
