Harvard Crimson 2016-2017

Re: Harvard Crimson 2016-2017

The ushers (and there are many) are actually pretty fervent about enforcing the rules. And the person who threw the fish probably got caught anyway.

I mean, they are, but they aren't. I have seen them search and they don't allow Subway sandwiches in because they know those are really fish (I've actually overheard this conversation between ushers.) But let's be honest there's also advice passed down from generation to generation to beat the search that the University turns a blind eye to.

I have actually SEEN Cornell get a 2-min penalty, but it was only because a kid threw a can of tuna at a Harvard goalie's head (want to say it was Michalek), and even that was after about a 3rd warning. Harvard scored on the ensuing PP and Schafer was so angry that he threw a fish at Section O after the game. Still the ECAC lets this go way more than, for example, the tennis balls between Dartmouth and Princeton. As long as we keep winning though, I don't really care and I doubt our players do either.

The Cornell fans actually threw something on the ice during the game at Lynah my senior year which I can't describe on this forum because it would be banned immediately. It was disgusting and truly demonstrates the classless nature of the fans up there. Pretty sick actually. You're right, the players don't really care. It's all about the two points.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2016-2017

We got off to a fast start last night but then seemed to take our foot off the pedal. Mystifying as to why this team can't play a 60 minute game. Just the opposite of what happened the night before at Cornell.

And I'm not thrilled with the line combinations - Malone and Kerfoot on the same line?? Why? Doesn't make sense and I think it weakens us overall. But if the intent was to send a message, okay then I get it. Still wish Ryan Donato would use his teammates more often. He is trying to do too much by himself. Maybe Dad should sit him for a game or two?

Bring on the Green and some major payback for what happened last week. I want a win by six or more goals.

O'Leary was pretty heralded, and while Sternschein was once a pretty hot prospect, his star has dimmed some (not to say he won't be a good college player). I think Limoges is clearly more "heralded" than Sternschein at this point.

Limoges just de-committed from Cornell.

Too early to tell on line combos. I think I like the D combos better though. Anderson needs a stay at home guy like Sherman to cover for some of his limitations.

We did take our foot off the gas, but Colgate had very few Grade A scoring chances. We went 4-0 on the road this year for the North Country and Cornell/Colgate trips.

Agree wholeheartedly on Donato. His finish against Cornell was class, but he needs to start distributing the biscuit.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2016-2017

So the big question for Harvard is are these new line combos the go-forward solution or was this a wake-up call and Harvard will go back to the prior line combos? I guess we will find out on Friday night vs Dartmouth.

I'm hoping it was a wake up call to get them moving. Jake Horton certainly got the message last weekend. So did Sean Malone. Let's see what happens tonight. Unfortunately have to miss the game due to illness but I'll check in on the live stats.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2016-2017

Looks like Reilly Walsh coming to Harvard in the Fall as opposed to 2018. He is cut in the cloth as Adam Fox and John Marino - which would mean 3 high end-puck movers on the blue line which would be great for the ability to move the puck from all 3 lines. Great article on what looks to be a very exciting player for Harvard:

That NHL scout that was quoted seems to feel he is one of the best, if not the best, prospect coming out of Eastern Prep this season. Can only help us next season. Wonder if Sherman stays for his senior season or leaves for the Bruins?

Re: Harvard Crimson 2016-2017

From the Big Green's point of view! Good luck in the Beanpot and rest of the season. Your team has the ability to go deep!

Big Green gets clearly outplayed as Harvard exacts revenge where their skill and speed played out. The possession time in all three zones for Harvard must of had Corsi jumping for joy. Now this was the Harvard I expected the first time out. Fox was the best player on the ice with deft, seeking, and patient passing style. Madsen made some huge saves on our PP, especially the cross ice pass through the box from Yau to Crema leading to a one-timer; Madsen went from his left post to his right. That was a quasi momentum shifter as Harvard controlled play but only up 2-0. If that goes in, who knows with a 2-1 game. Madsen also made a great save on Kalk's point blank shot. Coverage in the D zone was spotty at best for the Big Green; they were either outnumbered on counters/rushes or when they had numbers back, they had too many puck-watchers and not keeping an eye on other Harvard players especially in the dangerous slot. Interesting as Strong and Ernsting were scratches (could be sickness/injured) for I believe may have been their first time all year.

Thanks for the recap. I missed the game and had to follow on Live Stats. I expected this type of game and actually thought Harvard would win by a goal or two more than they did. We really played lousy up in Hanover so we should have delivered the knockout punch last night.
