Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Considering that Harvard traveled to the Capital District and took 3 points from two teams that had 6 games in hand, a very solid performance and start to the season for Harvard.

We need to be realistic on Tuesday. We are playing a BC team that has lost two games in a row and will be a very desperate team. Harvard will certainly be an underdog, but for the first time in years, Harvard should be able to skate with BC.

Does anyone know if the game is being broadcast on TV?

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

2012 Tie Record Watch:

2 Ties of 11 (NCAA Record)

2 Ties of 9 (ECACHL Record)

For some perspective, we had not picked up our second tie of the year in 2011-2012 until Nov. 25, 8 games into the season, a 3-3 draw at Dartmouth.

Looks like no TV for BC this week.

Agree on all counts. Especially the tie with Union. Yeah, they got 42 shots on goal and a handful of others that were blocked. But we stayed with them throughout which is an improvement over past seasons. It's a start.

I don't have any such delusions about BC on Tuesday. We may or may not be able to skate with them but I'm not counting on any points. We have a ways to go before we can compete with them. Makes you wish we had been able to get Bracco, Fortunato and Plant. The roster is starting to get a lot better - with the aforementioned, players, I might have been even more optimistic about this season.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

The Harvard team I saw last night is the best skating crimson club I have seen in many many years. RPI couldn`t/didn`t hit them and they ate our lunch.

Not to pile on but here is a stat that should make you choke on your lunch. The RPI announcers mentioned that after scoring three goals in the first period of the first game last season against Harvard, RPI has gone 8 periods and an OT without scoring on the Crimson. That's embarrassing any way you slice it.

very happy to hear it

BC has its version of Ivy Digital Sports Network. You can find the link on www.gocrimson.com, and click on the "video" link for the HvBC game. The subscription is $9.95 for a month. Think you have to be carful to "unsubscribe" because most of these services have automatic renewal each month.

That was a great college hockey game last night. Best Harvard team I've seen in several years. Big, fast, skilled. Michalek was spectacular.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

My wife and I attended the game Friday night against RPI in their quirky rink. We were impressed by Harvard's play, it was the first time in a long while that a Harvard team controlled the game and was encouraged by the play of the defensemen who kept the Engineers from getting off quality shots, except for one that hit the crossbar. Nice crowd there of loyal RPI supporters who were very pleasant, and in the corner in which we spent the third period an usher was handing out chocolate chip cookies to the people sitting there. The beginning of the season gives rise to a cautious optimism; their play is more cohesive so far than it has been.

Thanks. I'm hoping this is a harbinger of things to come this season. We could use Malone and Newell. Fearful that Colin Blackwell's career is over. But maybe, just maybe, we are turning a corner.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Harvard with a new commit. Jacob Olsen who is a 6'3'' 210lb Left Defenseman that skates for Hill Murray. He was committed to Michigan Tech and will now suit up for Harvard next year. Supposedly not a great skater, but a very high compete level and very tough to play against. He's a defensive defenseman and was selected to play for the USA U-18 team.

With Everson and McNally graduating, Harvard will fill those shoes with two recent commits. Dombrovsky (formerly committed to Yale) and Olsen. Very strong pick-ups.

Fixed your post.

Looking forward to tonight's game. The BC/BU game was a great college hockey game to watch. Hoping for more of the same tonight.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Huge game tonight. I'm not expecting a win though I'd probably do some cartwheels if we come through.

To me, this game is about Harvard executing its game plan that plays to its strengths (speed, forecheck, controlling the neutral zone, etc).

Harvard has not seen tem speed that BC will offer and it will be interesting to see if Harvard plays a more defensively oriented / opportunistic game in order to try and stifle the weapons that BC has. BC also has a few big bodies and it will be interesting to see if Harvard can keep those guys on the perimeter and out of the crease.

BC is a team that is still coming together and as such, roles are still not solidified. You have a lot of guys particularly on D (Hanafin, Matheson, etc) trying to do too much which can quickly get you exposed on the other end.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

And maybe if we win, we can reach out to Bracco and see if he wants to change his mind again about where he matriculates next year (if he doesn't end up in MJ).

Good news. Very good news. Now if we can land a couple of stud forwards beyond R. Donato, that would really be something. Maybe the tide is finally turning in our favor?

Stranger things have happened. Remember Chris Huxley? Never set the world on fire while he wore Crimson but the RPI posters let us have it when he transferred to Harvard.

Chris who? ;)

He didn't transfer -- he decommitted when RPI let Dan Fridgen go.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Harvard has not defeated BC at Conte since 11/15/2005 (5-3)

After 1
Harvard 2 BC 0
SOG
Harvard 10? BC 3?
I don't think BC got a shot on goal until 18 minutes in? - took 18 minutes to get first shot on goal - First period belonged to the Crimson.
Eagles did not get a shot on goal on two power plays.
Two power plays each
BC Playing backup Goalie - Barone
After 2
Harvard 4 BC 1
SOG
Harvard 18? BC 13?
Eagles fight back
Michalek 13 saves, 1 GA
Despite BC having a 5 1/2 minute advantage being man up in the power play, Harvard has a 7-4 shot advantage in the power play.
After 3
Harvard 6 BC 3
SOG
Harvard 28? BC 26?
A. Kerfoot +4
A. Kerfoot - HAT TRICK !!!!!

FINAL - HARVARD 6 - BC 3
GREAT WIN HARVARD !!!!!
