Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Saw the last two periods of the women's game against McGill Friday, the renovations look great. There is much more room in the concourse area where the visitor's side..now the Crimson side...used to be. Large photos on the walls of men and women's hockey highlights, the ticket offiice is inside, along with other offices. New lounge for the upper class citizens. There is a window overlooking the track. Very nice. Newly renovated arena, same old recorded music blasting over the speakers.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

From what I saw online, I believe that Harvard beat Concordia this past weekend 7-2. Not sure that the result means anything.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

But it's preseason so what the heck, let's go with sure.

Do I have this correct?

(1) Draft Picks = Harvard - 11
That is one less than all six of the 6 non-ivy's combined
(2) Size & Age = Very Big - Older
According to College Hockey News you are out of 59 teams, 6th tallest, 9th heaviest, and while you are still young, you are much older then last year at an average age of 21y 0m. You are 10th youngest of 59 teams. As a comparison, Union is av. age 21y 2m
(3) Coach -
You have added a head coach as an assistant to bolster the coaching staff.
(4) Smarts -
The Ivy academic index is hardest for Harvard, Yale and Princeton - you have the smarts.
(5) Rink -
Your home just got a refresh
(6) Leadership
You have 7 seniors

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

It's hard to feel very optimistic given recent performance and the recruiting gutting that Harvard received over the past 10 months or so. Bracco, Fortunato, Guy to Denver, etc - mostly because Donato could not get them through admissions. A lot of talent just walked out that door.

Well since you asked about the Beanpot...
1) is irrelevant unless compared with the 3 other Beanpot schools
2) same with 2
3) is good, I guess
4) and the academic index also hurts our recruitment, a problem exactly 0 of the other Beanpot schools have, and SAT smarts doesn't mean hockey smarts, which doesn't mean hockey talent. I wish it did.
5) is nice, but since the Beanpot is played at the TD Garden I'm not sure a nice home rink helps
6) is a positive, but again, unless compared to the other Beanpot schools, doesn't tell us much.

So I'd be hard pressed to say we're going to beat BU in the Opener and then beat BC in the Final, at least at the early going, esp. since BU has a guy that can possibly go #1 in the draft. Now if the year starts out and both of those teams look weak and we look great come February than sure, I'll change my tune. But it's just being realistic at this point to say it's possible but not expected.

This is Harvards year for the Beanpot. BC sucks this year and wont get any better. BU is rebuilding and Northeastern is terrible and will implode. This is Harvards year.
Pear is associate head coach, not an assistant, huge plus. Quality guy and will work very well with Ted D.
Harvard could be good, goalie is key

Hmm, BC is ranked #6 in the country according to USCHO's latest poll. BU has Eichel and Fortunato and a host of other freshmen - don't think they are a pushover. And I think our new associate head coach is Paul Pearl, not Pear.

I gave up on the Beanpot years ago. It was fun during the 80's but hardly competitive anymore for Harvard. We really should consider dropping out of the tournament and letting UMass Lowell take our place.

Yup, it hurts no question about it. Still if Union can get quality players, why can't we? Their academic requirements are pretty stringent right? And Yale won the whole thing two years ago so the argument about the AI doesn't exactly hold water.

I don't know, maybe I'm just being ornery or just tired and frustrated from all the losing. Yeeeesh!

Yale AD = Pro Hockey.

Harvard AD = Pro Basketball

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Hi there. I'm planning on going to Brown-Harvard on 11/14, but I wanted to drive this time. I'm sick of the red line and the walk from Harvard Square.

What's the parking situation like? Am I better off just sucking it up and taking the T? I've been to the stadium and Bright a bunch of times, but have never thought to keep an eye out for a lot or garage nearby.

Parking has never been a problem for a BC @ Harvard game. I'm thinking you'll have no problem. Just pull in at the stadium and they'll direct kdiff77 right to his/her parking space. :)

IMO the best place to park is in the Harvard Business School Parking Lot. I think its $5.00 or $7.00 for non-alumni. Its basically across the street from the Stadium.

The entrance is off Batten Way and you can get there from Western Avenue or from N. Harvard Street. Just turn down Gordon Road.

Also, I would call the ticket office at the Murr Center. They may allow parking behind the Stadium for that day/evening. They are super cooperative

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Harvard AD is for Football....
Basketball yes but Football is still king

Doesn't matter of course because football is it's own separate AI monster, whereas all of the other sports have a linked AI. So you get two sports to focus on, football and whatever, and we've chosen basketball as the second sport.
