Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Keith Allain built a national champion in 7 years. Standing room only at every game. Same pool to fish in. We're ten years in and headed down. We can do better. We've done so in football and basketball. Under 500 year after year is just painful. When BC, BU, Cornell fans feel sorry for us it is time...

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Since I've been taken to task for my 'insubordination', I thought I would go back to the '08-09' season when complaints started to filter in about Teddy's ability to coach and focus only on the Ivies. Harvard's record in the Ivy League starting with the '08-'09 season is, wait for it, 14-25-11. If you include this season, the record goes to 17-31-12 with one game remaining. These are regular season numbers by the way. In the playoffs during that time, against Ivy teams, we are 7-9. Numbers don't lie despite what ghost of watson seems to think about me.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Paris wasn't built in a day, and neither will the Harvard program! A little loyalty and patience, please!

Uh, the proper quote is Rome, as in Italy. If you would like to compare your team to the French though, by all means please do. ;)

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

jeremy bracco broke natl teams single season assist record this weekend, held by pat kane
the real deal

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Cornell is 20.67 this year.

We're young, but 10-member freshmen classes do that. We also seem to be pivoting to older, USHL players recently.

A better comparison of teams would be to average the players' ages at game one of career.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

New contest this year: ECAC Pick the Awards. Get your picks in for whose going to win the major awards and be put on the 1,2,3 and rookie teams

"Rome wasn't built in a day." "Or so the peasant says"... Hey, that's not me calling you a peasant, L, that's just the 2nd part of the quote according to some Swiss linguist. ( I'll call you something worse in a moment, L ). Anyway, me, compare my team to the French? Not me, but I've heard our defensemen compared to the Maginot Line before. Something about immobility. What?

Now , I'm also pretty sure Paris ( FR ) wasn't built in a day-- although I did spend part of my early youth in Rome, NY, and that looks like it might have been slapped together in a day or so. Bleak place.

Just trying to think of a place that might have been built in a day, but that's crazy....but, wait! New Haven!! Yes! That couldn't have taken more than a few hours, maybe not even that! Are you familar with that dump? A blight on mankind!

But anyway, stop behaving like a d**m Yale Man----told you I'd call you something terrible. We're here on this site to talk hockey, not urban planning, or lack thereof. This is a hockey site, so let's talk hockey! As they say, "When in Paris..."

Now, S79, you are off the reservatiion again! And resorting to statistics to impugn the character of a good guy like Ted! Statistics! The last refuge of scoundrels!! That's low! Low!!

I don't care what the numbers say, Ted's a good guy! Ted is nice!! Why are you attacking him?!? The next time you're at Blight Center take a good look at the logo in center ice. See that "Veritas?" Translated loosely, it means entertainment. You, sir, are missing the point! Ted has brought entertain back to Harvard hockey! How can you imply that Ted has not done a good job as coach when we have Chuck-a-Puck, Dance Cam, Mother-in-Law Night, and raging hip-hop music?!? What's wrong with you!?!? For you to insist that Ted make Harvard hockey relevant, not become a laughingstock, and not besmirch the legacy of Harvard hockey, when Ted's brought us so much else....well, you're just ungrateful, S79!! Ungrateful, and insubordinate! I suggest you manage your "expectations." Get on Dance Cam and dance your cares away, you ingrate! I did this long ago and I've been a highly entertained fan ever since. But you, and you're statistics, clearly you don't appreciate Ted, and his niceness. His likeability! Where are the stats to quantify niceness? I'll find them, and then we'll see who's right! Unlike you, I'm comfortable in the basement ( my parents live upstairs ). Give me a nice coach, a Good Time Charlie.......and entertainment, and I'll gladly take the ECAC basement as well, any day!

Ted's got far too much on his plate: being a nice guy, and providing entertainment, to be bothered with building a "winning", "respected" , "relevant" program. It's malcontents like you, S79, who attack nice guys who are unreasonable. Now, S79, you march you're over to a mirror right now and repeat 2000 times: " Ted is good guy!" until your knees buckle! Get up, and repeat until your eyes cross!

Get back in line!!

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

G.O.W. You are on quite a roll, don't let us stop you. BTW there is a great difference between a Yale fan (townie like myself) and a Yale Man. Please do not insult me again! ;)

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Trevor Fidler is no longer coming to Harvard. He's had a very disappointing stint in the USPHL (better competition relative to prep school) and my guess is that this is what's driving the decision (I assume that this decision was Harvard's, but that is pure speculation).

Hoky - any insights?

Curious to see if another D1 team will pursue.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Close the books on another dismal season. We apparently couldn't spring for Acela tickets for reinforcements for tonight's game leaving us shorthanded against a more talented squad. Yup, that's a good recipe for success. If changes aren't made, then I guess we can assume that the athletic department and administration simply don't care about the hockey program. Which is too bad. We simply aren't competitive anymore in either the ECAC or the Ivies. And considering the haul of Ivy League trophies this past season, it is even more egregious that Scalise looks the other way where men's hockey is concerned. Oh well... let's remember that we're all nice guys. At least that is what the security staff at Bright-Landry told me on my last visit.

From the Crimson: “I thought there was a great deal of improvement [this year],” Donato said. “I think we in general laid the foundation for what will be a more positive future.”

That about says it all.

You still going to stand by Donato as a good decision to coach H hockey?!

Donato should do the right thing and quit... but with Junior coming in, that is highly improbable.

I said it SIX years ago, and I'll say it again, FIRE DONATO!!!!

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Did I read that Harvard has to give Ted some time and not rush him out? This is year #10, right?

I don't get that.

Anyone who gets into bc can get into Harvard (since bc is a better school ;) )
I can't think of any reason if Harvard doesn't have a coach who can develop a player that someone would pick bc over Harvard. Sure bright is a but worn, but conte is also old'ish.

Just dumbfounding that Harvard is so disappointing year after year after year..

HA! If you are a prep school kid, and a serious prospect in the NHL... you'll choose BC over Harvard. York is about to win his 6th NCAA, 5th at BC. Would a kid who is a serious NHLer "really" think's he'll be developed at Harvard under Donato?! No, of course not. That kid will not even compete for a meaningful Beanpot win. If you want to win games, be mentored and developed, BC has MASTERED the art; Parker did it in the late 80s/early 90s. Harvard, meh, you can have your degree; but the Brian Giontas, et. al. of he NHL, are doing quite well with hardware and careers.

Time to FIRE Donato!!!

You can win at that age because of the quality of recruits. That is my point about BC getting the best players. Those guys don't have to spend 3yrs in junior to be relevant.

Harvard may have to employ a different strategy to compete as times have changed.

The "different strategy" would be to fire Ted Donato, or are you seriously still standing by him?

I hate to say I told you so, must be heart breaking especially coming from an HES guy, BUT I TOLD YOU DONATO COULD NEVER TURN IT AROUND!!!
