Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Francois Lemelin no longer committed to Harvard. He's been plagued by injuries and is now playing in the NAHL. Probably makes sense as it is tough to envision getting much playing time given the youth of Harvard's current forwards and who they are expecting in the next few years.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

He will make it just fine. I was simply saying that was what kept him back in draft etc
Will be a very good pro

Weird.......I could have sworn I saw some posts from you stating how Harvard was going to blow SLU out tonight. Hmm, I can't find those statements now.
Hokydad you run your mouth all the time. In a social setting I guarantee you wouldn't.

He obviously deleted his comments ... I would too if I made such a stupid comment especially considering how it was the complete opposite result. He is a complete tool box!

Anywho, good luck the rest of the way Harvard ... Keep pushing hard for the NCAA's, we ECAC fans will take as many teams into the tourny as we can get! :)

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

I'm not sure about that. A couple of mine disappeared too, through no action of my own.

Definitely a poor showing for the Crimson tonight.

This is true ... Hmmmm, maybe his account was deleted for too many negative reputations points? ... I don't know how that all works, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit with him!;)

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

No they don't. They are fast, tough and play a structured game. Yeah, Michalek had an off night and that didn't help. But we didn't respond in a way that could keep us in the game. We had opportunities but couldn't cash in and you have to give them credit. They are not a .500 team. They will be a dangerous team in the playoffs.

Thanks Skate79.........if there is one thing I have learned about the ECAC after watching all these years is that it is a competitive grind. On any given night any result is possible. You guys are missing a few of the most talented players in the league and certainly that made a difference. On the other hand what you had out there tonight did put some offense up with all those SOG. Hayton is an impressive young goalie who has played very well and very consistent for us.
I attended an event last night up at Dartmouth where our coach gave a little talk. After reviewing the program, the team, the results, etc. he jokingly said something like... "Oh and yeah... it doesn't hurt to have a really good goalie!" And we do. Hayton has made a big impact and a huge difference this year. Anytime in the last 15 years or so if we had the same game as tonight we would have lost 7-5.
Good luck in the Beanpot. We are all cheering for you.

Thanks. I agree that the league is getting better and having Union and Yale win the NC the past two years can only help with recruiting for all the schools. Maybe teams from HE and the Big Ten will sit up and take notice.

Hayton is very good. He covered all the angles and didn't leave many rebounds. In fact I think we only had two or three second chance opportunities, mostly in the second period. If he keeps playing that way, you guys will be in good shape.

Spoke with someone tonight who spoke with one of our injured players and they should be back soon. None of the injuries are season ending so we just need to get back to playing our style and cut down on D zone turnovers.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

If that beat down doesn't wake up the boys before a trip up to the friendly confines of Lynah rink, I don't know what will. That beating may have been the best thing to happen to this team...who slept walked through the first period...which they have gotten away with too much recently. Time to stop thinking about the national ranking and time to start thinking about winning 1:1 battles, getting pucks deep, finishing checks, etc.

If we can get healthy and get focused, we will be ok.

I know McNally is missed and Malone is a great player, and although Michalek maybe wants the first one back, I don't think anyone is stopping the other 4. They were all pretty goals. But overall, our defense played really well. The quality of shots that Harvard took weren't great. The officiating was a lot like the Northeastern weekend where they were night and day better than Friday night (Dartmouth on Friday they were dreadful), but they were still not good. They missed some offisides calls both by calling them and not calling them by a lot. The goal they got on the PP was one that shouldn't have been a PP to begin with. Things got chippy at the end because of the refs. Gunnar Hughes was clearly not happy and rightfully so after getting hit head first into the boards on the PK in the last few minutes. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of that carry over next month. But, Harvard's best player by a lot was on the ice tonight...a lot. As impressive as Vesey is, he looked frustrated tonight and seemed to quit towards the end of the game. As for SLU's best player, tonight you could take your pick. Everyone played well. Hayton was sharp but I'd wager scoring chances were even. SLU looked very poised and very confident. But clearly the highlight of the night was Hokydad earning even more negative rep with his pie hole flatulence.

It was an entertaining game tonight. I've never had so much fun getting blown out Hokydad style. I hope we get blown out that way every game the rest of the year. It was fast. There was some good skill displayed both ways. Really hope you guys can win the beanpot and against Q. Hope your guys heal and get back in the game. I hate seeing injuries especially for Seniors like McNally.

Agreed. Going back to the RPI game, we've not played well in the first period and have had to come from behind. No excuses, we need to play better. The girls had the same thing happen to them in Hanover yesterday. Got dominated by a so-so Dartmouth team. Too busy thinking about their #5 ranking which will drop after yesterday.

Health is important and getting Kerfoot, Malone and McNally back will help enormously. But we have enough talent to win these games and be far more competitive than we were last night. Michalek was off his game as well and that doesn't help.

The good news from what I heard last night is that none of the injuries are serious and Blackwell will be back this season, hopefully by the Beanpot.

I disagree. Steve has played much better than he showed last night. Those goals, while hardworking, weren't exactly pretty. SLU earned them but Michalek could have saved them.

But overall, our defense played really well. The quality of shots that Harvard took weren't great. Your D played very well last night. However, the officiating was brutal on both sides. The PP was legit and the officials missed several more calls on SLU and Harvard that should have been whistled. State of the league I suppose.

Brian Hart's five minute major was deserved - it was stupid and senseless on his part and I only hope the SLU player is okay. He looked woozy being carried off the ice. There is no room in the game for contact to the head hits. Period. We don't normally play a chippy style and I think some of it was frustration on the part of the team as this was their second loss in the last three games. But they have to learn from this and move on. Otherwise, they don't deserve their ranking.

Agreed.

Pairwise slide overnight from #2 to #7 - ouch! Even if things go very well, with many many wins to come, it seems as if it may be a at best a slow climb back up the rankings. I count only 2 remaining regular season games vs. top 16 (PW) teams, just 4 days apart, with one against the team that has owned Harvard this year.

Should I be rooting for BU, UML (and Yale!) in order to boost the Crimson PW?

At least I was smart enough to hold off on Manchester tickets.

I really don't care about the Pairwise at this point. I care about the team getting back to full health and playing the style they showed in November and early December. They can do a whole lot better than the past three games.

That said, I agree with Both that maybe this serves as a wake-up call for the team. Ignore your ranking and Pairwise. Concentrate on doing your job (sorry, I've got the Pats on my mind today - wonder why? :) ).

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Don't mind me, I'm just learning how the PW bumps up and down in real time. I am sure it gets much more stable by March.

Oh no problem. I didn't mean to come across as nasty. I just don't worry about polls, Pairwise, rankings, etc... Just hoping that the team rights itself, gets healthy and plays like they did in November.

In looking at points/game Harvard is 2,3,4,11,21 but it looks like Malone has only played in three games? Is Harvard at full strength? Who is hurt?

McNally, Malone, and Kerfoot are all hurt. They have not played in Harvard's last 3 games and Kerfoot has been out since Lowell. Malone was hurt for the first part of the year and was recently back before getting injured again. No offense to SLU, but with those guys in the lineup, I am confident that Saturday's result would be different.

That said, Hockey is as much about depth as it is talent. Injuries are a part of the game.

Skate79 - Do you expect these guys to be back for Cornell on Friday?

Agree with you wholeheartedly. Those are three talented players. I too think the result would have been different..... Maybe 5-3 SLU instead of 5-1?? :D
