Re: Harvard Crimson 2012-2013
Hello, folks:
A few happy Harvard thoughts (was at the NU game, missed the Princeton and Quinnipiac game, watched BU on DVR):
- The vibe watching the NU game was much different than it was for those involved. The guys on the Harvard staff realized the spot the team was in but seemed much less discouraged than one might expect. The loss of key forwards (Fallstrom, Criscuolo) to injury coincided with the loss of key defensemen who are gone for the year and Vesey's absence to make a difficult personnel circumstance in addition to the off-ice distraction. The coaches were pretty happy with the effort and felt like the team just ran out of gas.
- I was really impressed with Harvard's fight in the BU game, not just when down 5-2, but also when it was 1-0 and 3-0. That was a trademark of last season's team, and this year's team will need that comeback spirit on a macro level with what it has faced.
- Don't look now, but here come the seniors. I didn't see in what context Luke Greiner, Alex Fallstrom and Marshall Everson combined for a goal against Quinnipiac, but Teddy must have seen something because they were back together at BU and looked really good, especially Greiner. They teamed up for another goal, off an offensive draw, and Greiner had a hand in two power-play goals. That line needs to be the offensive engine for Harvard, and that OT goal might have been just what the doctor ordered for Conor Morrison.
- Other standouts at BU: the power play with two goals (though neither on a classic PP setup) for five PP goals in the last four games and Tommy O'Regan making plays like late last year (better actually).
- Three points out of the top four (five out of second, with two games in hand) with 14 league games left. The league is wide open, and a few points out of the upcoming games would go a long way.
