Halloween Face-Off Lake Placid

Re: Halloween Face-Off Lake Placid

LP press flak says attendance will be 5,000 plus on Saturday. Possibility of the event format morphing into a two-day tourney. Hagwell tap dances around Schott's question as to whether ECAC tourney could/would return to LP.

Yep, I heard from someone that they wanted to make the event a two-day tournament around Christmas time, possibly by the 2012-13 season.

Didn't LP put in a bid to get the ECAC tourney again? At least from what they say, LP lost to Atlantic City.

Re: Halloween Face-Off Lake Placid

It could be, I dont know how much this person knew that I overheard. Maybe 2012-13 was when they hoped to get the ECAC tournament back to Lake Placid.

I think LP no doubt wants the two day event...question is can they get teams to commit. Personally, I'll be there..skiing in my RPI jersey.

Re: Halloween Face-Off Lake Placid

So where are the RPI fans planning to meet up after the games this weekend?

I (and my 3 friends) will be staying for both games. After that, we'll probably roam the main drag randomly for food / beer. I know there have been a couple emails sent to the RPI-Sports-L about specific places where people plan on eating.

Re: Halloween Face-Off Lake Placid

Good to hear the RPI band will make the trip. I'm sure you all already guessed that the Clarkson band would be there as well, since it's only about an hour away from campus. Saturday is going to be amazing, I can't wait to see hockey played in the 1980 Olympic Center!!

An hour?! More like 2 the last time I drove there, and that was going by Paul Smiths! How the heck do you guys get there so fast?!

Yeah my 2 friends and I are staying for both games. Hope they let us leave and re-enter for the second game but doubt it will happen. Should be a good time. I will be one of the guys wearing the beach gear as our costumes.

Re: Halloween Face-Off Lake Placid

From Potsdam? Hour and a half tops if you go through Paul Smiths and Saranac Lake. I have family in Saranac Lake so I never feel like the 15 minutes from SL to Placid counts, in my head. Well, that and I was usually doing at least 70 the entire way.

Re: Halloween Face-Off Lake Placid

there should be a full hour plus between games. the brewary is great... short walk great beer and food. As for after both games zig zags and roomers is the 2 hot spots.

I agree, that 15 minutes barely counts. Thought it would be shorter, but then I remembered the speed trap known as Ray Brook. You can definitely make good time on 458 (I think it's 458 and not 456, one's there and the other is at Point au Roche, I always get them mixed up) between NY 30 and St. Regis Falls. Maybe the extra half hour comes from the fact that I'm adding living east of LP, but it's all good.

Surprisingly, this will be my first time seeing a hockey game played at this arena. I'm looking forward to it.

For the over 22 crowd :D, the Cabin at the Mirror Lake Inn has great views, great beer selection and good upscale pub grub. Just follow Main St. all the way to the end of the retails shops and the cabin is on your right, on the lakeshore...(sadly, this is NOT a paid endorsement...:p)

Of course, ALL of these claims of travel times are weather dependent...they can easily double in winter conditions.
