Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Palin is too adept at looking-out-for-number-one to be a moron. Her act is only moronic if you think she's motivated by public service.

She's discovered a very simple formula, and she's working it:

Financial benefit of current public persona * probability of success > personal benefits of holding formal elected office * probability of success.

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Palin is in the news because liberals are afraid of her and need an example of something to hate. All it takes to take her out of the news is for you not to care anymore.

It's certainly not fear. More like symbiosis.

The "new media" on the Left is almost completely parasitic on Right-wing rhetoric. Most of the time, Olbermann and Maddow are too tentative to be first-movers in the realm of public opinion. Far easier to throw candy at their base with "worst person"-style segments.

Of course, Palin, Rush, et al benefit from those attacks, so the main effect is simply to ratchet up the stupid.

I don't know about you, but I certainly fear the possibility that she could get elected by some flukey, Jeb Bush-Ralph Naderish joke. Dubya was right on the edge of the tolerance levels the Founders built in to protect the republic. That would be several orders of magnitude more than any political society could be expected to deal with without implosion.

We can survive an imbecile (Dubya), a paranoid (Nixon), or a sociopath (Clinton), but not the hat trick.

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

I think fear of a Palin Presidency is good for business.

As for low probability disasters, I still have to give the nod to an asteroid collision-induced apocalypse. :)

BP has purchased search terms on Internet search engines. So when you search for "Gulf Oil Spill," or any variant thereof, you get a sponsored link to BP's website.

Can't the end of net neutrality come fast enough? That way where you can go on the internet can be determined by responsible corporations?

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Doesn't matter. It's nice to hear that they may happen but they've already done so much damage and will be playing games with what they pay out for the forseeable future so it really makes no diff.

I'd think that getting it stopped now vs. "sometime around next Christmas" would make a huge difference, in the amount of damage done.
Unless you mean, it's too late now to save BP from self-destruction... maybe so. But the need for revenge should come second to "plugging the **** hole" and saving a few hundred billion on the eventual cleanup. We're all going to pay for that, one way or another.
