Greatest People in the World

Re: Greatest People in the World

The first person to put the creme inside the caramels, put several of them on white cardboard and wrapped them in plastic so they could be sold in vending machines.

Melvin Goetze, Jr. developed carmel creams in 1917, and put them on the market in 1918. This stroke of genius likely contributed to his induction into the Candy Hall of Fame in 1984.

Genuflect, please.

The family business still rocks:

So, do you suppose their Czech website is www.goetze.cz?

If it weren't for the fact that I'm at work, that's exactly where I was headed with that one

Back on topic...whoever invented that little dish wand with the scrubby pad on the end that you pour the dish soap into the handle needs to be knighted.

Ranch exists for waiters to fail with Buffalo wings. Blue cheese or blow me.

ranch with buffalo wings?...then you can't call them buffalo wings...they can name them after some other town but they can't be buffalo wings...sounds like minnesota likes ranch...then they can be called mankato wings

that is like somebody in the philly area asking if you want mayo on your italian sub...excuse me? then it wouldn't be a sub - it would be an abomination, a one way ticket to hell, a slap in the face to every god loving sub eating person in the world, a french guy as minister of defense, I'll stop now

I was extremely disappointed to find, after some research, that the Candy Hall of Fame is not an actual building.

the first person to say, "hey wonder what happens if you heat up dried corn?" An assist to the person that added butter and salt

Didn't Kerry ask for Swiss (or something) on his cheese steak during the campaign? He was in Philly at the time at one of those joints world famous for the cheese steak.

You occasionally see people describing Chicago style hotdogs as having ketchup on them. At a real Chicago dog joint there's a good chance they don't have any ketchup in the house. And if they do, it's under the counter, for the 3 year olds.

I'd nominate whoever invented Chuckles (made in my father's hometown of Danville, Illinois) now sadly out of business. I'd also give a nod to the inventor of Red Hot Dollars, now downsized and called Raspberry Dollars. Ugh. The ones I got as a kid were the size of quarters, and came two for a penny.
