"You'd do it for Randolph Scott"- Sherriff Bart

Re: Greatest People in the World

It was a woman who invented Buffalo Wings.

Little did she know she'd start the path towards Wing Bowl in Philly...not exactly a testament to the women's movement;)

this is greatest people so it is a diverse thread, fully supporting nominees of all 3 genders:D

Re: Greatest People in the World

I'll probably catch some flack for being sappy, but I nominate Grandparents.

What's not to like? They do nothing but spoil you when you're little. They never get sick of you because they only see you every so often, so they're happy as all heck when you come to visit. And if you're extra lucky like me, the grandma is usually knows her way around the kitchen like no other woman in the world and demands you eat, eat, EAT! whenever you go there. And if you're super-extra lucky, the grandpa knows his way around a case of beer and isn't afraid to give you one or two when you're still a few years away from legal drinking age, and now that you're older, will sit and drink with you all night and tell you fascinating stories about the war, sports, life in general, etc. from times past.

Yeah, I have kick-*** grandparents. Now commence the heckling.

The guy who discovered fire.

The guy who discovered/developed alcohol.

If it were the same guy....that man would be known as God. ;)

Prometheus, Bacchus, and Christ were all virgin births, so you may be on to something.

The man who decided to domesticate pigs and hack it up into the oddest and most delicious things on earth.

*** = ham
Gut = bacon

Re: Greatest People in the World

people who help when something goes wrong.

the guy who stops and changes your flat tire. the kid at the grocery store who helps when the bag breaks and spills all over. the EMTs, firefighters, nurses, doctors, first responders. neighbors who are always there for you. family who love and support you no matter what. your dog. people who work in nursing homes. friends.

Hear, hear. When I was young and even more inept than today, I had several Samaritans help me out with car troubles despite various combinations of things that make aid less likely, like night, bad weather, and being in Massachusetts. All of those guys tie for Greatest Person in the World AFAIC.

Re: Greatest People in the World

the guy that first said, "we ought to do a swimsuit issue in the winter"

I don't care how much you love your pet, dogs and cats are not people.

although I suspect my german shepherd is smarter than many people, I have to concur...it has been proven that dogs and cats are not people

Re: Greatest People in the World

It was a woman who invented Buffalo Wings.

Only if her name was Frank. ;)

Whoever thought of making that round piece of paper to put on toilet seats in public bathrooms.

Whoever looked at it and thought, "Yeah, it's a massive fungus but what the heck, I'll eat it." (portabello mushrooms)

Whoever first realized that there might be a market for mpegs of amateur couples doing it too. ;)

Re: Greatest People in the World

The person that decided throwing hamburger, macaroni salad, and french fries all onto a (garbage) plate without a bun and mixing it up was a good idea.
