Sure, it's disconcerting to see someone try it. But think of it as a stress test on the US electoral system. What we are witnessing right now is the system working. We have a guy who would love to be a Putin style "elected" dictator who never loses an election. He is threatening, cajoling, maybe even bribing for all I know, every single bureaucrat he can get his hands on to try to get himself declared the winner. Zero success. Nothing. All he is doing is creating this great body of caselaw that will be used in future generations to fight similar efforts.

When your defense is "yeah, he tried to become a dictator, he was just too stupid to pull it off," that's not exactly a great sign. Both for his party (who is full of morons) and the system (which would've collapsed with a more competent wannabe dictator).

You say this is proving the system works. I see it as a beta test for the future. Put another way, if Putin had compromised someone with maybe an extra 15 IQ points, we'd be farked.

And I take back anything I said mockingly towards Romney when he said Russia was still a threat 8 years ago. Clearly they are, just in the disinformation sphere rather than traditional military engagements.

I voted for Biden. I have no doubt that Biden won. I also have no doubt that Trump, for all of his floundering around, has zero chance of changing that outcome. His legal team is like the '76-77 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

There is nothing illegal about trying to win the Powerball and whether or not he succeeds isn't the only concern. It's the message it sends, the distrust hes sowing among the electorate by constantly claiming there was widespread fraud and legitimizing millions of crackpots and racists. Your deflections are sad, cowardly and dangerous.
 
It’s just so embarrassing that our country was toppled by Donald Trump. Dudes like Jim Jones and David Koresh frittered away their potential with their tiny little death cults.
 
So, I know from the Covid thread that everyone here is keenly interested in all things North Dakota, so I thought I’d pass this along.

As noted earlier on this board, a man who died of Covid in October was elected to the legislature in November. By the time of his death it was too late to change the ballots.

Tomorrow the North Dakota Supreme Court will hear arguments in what must be a uniquely North Dakota case. Governor Burgum claims he is legally entitled to fill the seat. The North Dakota legislature claims they have the authority to appoint someone to the seat. They are joined by the Republican party. The state Democratic party claims every vote for the deceased was a “nullity” and therefore the Democrat who finished a distant second should get the seat.

i have no idea what the law is in ND so I can’t handicap the contest.
 
Remember when Hillary's "What difference does it make?" was a lot more than "just words"?

Now you have a president actually trying to get voters disenfranchised, and its no big deal.

Why does this surprise you...they were calling the GOP in dozens of states (including Minnesota for Gritty's sake) trying to get them to say this type of stuff. They are all in, they quit on Democracy and facts. That is why they dont believe in COVID, they believe Hillary clinton is the epitome of evil and Donald Trump was sent by Jesus to own the Libs.

There is no reasonable people left in that party...the ones who can think on their own were ex-communicated or left. Even suggesting Trump lost makes you a RINO who colluded with Democrats to oust Trump and bring about a Fascist Socialist regime. That isnt hyperbole...that is what the party says OUT FCUKING LOUD!

You know how you know this isnt business as usual like Hovey and Sicatoka Collins believe...if it was people like Susan Collins, Mitch McConnell and Lady G. who are now safe for 6 years would be telling him to shut up and concede already. They are 100% silent or behind it. Even when they have nothing to lose they dont have the spine to stop what is coming and whats worse is they don't want to. They like it because it fills their pathetic worthless lives with power. They are selling out the United States to a piece of crap loser who can barely form coherent sentences.

This isnt like when your team loses the game and you whine about the refs to make yourself feel better. This is trying to burn down the whole league because your team lost because your goalie sucks. And it isnt just the fans, the team itself is threatening to quit the league if they dont change the results to make them feel better.

AP says the the hand count confirms Biden won GA. Q claims JFK Jr. did...Rudy claims Stalin rigged it and Sidney Powell says all 5 million votes went to Trump.
 
I don’t think Michigan certifies next week. I fully believe the next few days will be spent threatening and blackmailing GOP members in key states to prevent electors from being named

I think our democracy is crumbling before our very eyes. I think the process of "certifying" these elections in enough states is going to grind to a halt in more states than is needed to deny Biden 270 EC votes. I think the coup is actually starting.

The lawsuits, the recounts, it's all sleight of hand garbage. They knew lawsuits would fail. They knew recounts would change dozens or hundreds of votes, not necessarily in trump's favor, and certainly not the thousands he needs. I think the republicans are angling to find a way to install trump as the public face of their dictatorship. I think all the resulting chaos we are about to see is by design.

A week ago I didn't believe that was likely. 2 days ago I was still hopeful. Yesterday I began to lose that feeling. There really is no other logical explanation for why people like Ted Cruz and Lindsay Graham have acted the way they have and said the things they have said in the last week. There is really no reason that the vast majority of republicans in elected federal offices have not stepped up and PUBLICLY told trump it is over. They could signal the House to begin impeachment proceedings and get rid of him by weekend's end if they wanted to. But they aren't. And that is telling.

We are witnessing something that too many people thought was not possible in this country. As fvcked up as things are, too many discounted the possibility of something this bad happening. And that is the very attitude that makes it both possible, and more likely. I really hope in the days or weeks to come I get to come here and eat a mountain of crow. At least if I am wrong, a place like this will still exist for dissenters to gather.
 
The riots will be unprecedented in world history. We are sitting on a shipload of powder kegs and Republicans are playing with sparklers. It was nice knowing you boys.
