Team USA 8, Minnesota 5What was the final score? Will the box score be posted anywhere?
Yes, they battled very well. Team USA is just too deep. The atmosphere was very good in the rink when the Gophs tied it up at the end of the second. I don't remember them ever scoring 5 goals on a Mark Johnson coached team before.Must have been a very entertaining game - looks like the Gophers put up a good fight!
It was a really wild, really gritty, game. And despite no one really wanting to root against Team USA, the crowd reactions when Minnesota closed the leads to 3-2 and 4-3 and then tied it 4-4 were definitely pro-Gopher (particularly since that 4th one was right before the second period horn). Hillary Knight's goal in the third just open the flood gates for a couple of minutes before the Gophers could close them again.Must have been a very entertaining game - looks like the Gophers put up a good fight! I debated going to this game or a high school matchup, and it appears I chose the wrong one...
Anyway I never would have guessed the Gophs would score 5 goals, even if I had known they would be going against the USA's No. 3 goalie. Nor would I have guessed that either team would score an empty-netter at the end.

I have to give Darwitz a little grief about the licking she put on one of the Gophers near the benches in the third period. It should have been at least a minor and maybe even a fiver, but the refs let it slide and/or flat out missed it. After the Lunch with the Coaches on Saturday, when Frosty said the goal of tonight's game for the Gophers was (a) not to get hurt and (b) to not hurt anyone on Team USA, I was less than enthusiastic about that play from the former and future Gopher assistant coach. I think it's fantastic that Natalie is captaining the team, I love her energy, and I'm glad she got a goal in front of the Gopher faithful, but she came really close to crossing the line with that hit.
Not sure what to make of Team USA's performance overall. The Gophers really gave them a run for their money. Would the result been different with Vetter or Schaus in net for the red, white, and blue? Possibly. But even so, I have my doubts that they met their own expectations tonight.
The game will be shown on Big Ten Network on Wednesday morning (1/13) at 8 a.m. CT (9 a.m. ET).
The crowd reactions to the first goal by each team were indicators for me that something slightly unusual was afoot. The red white and blue first goal by former Badger Zaugg was greeted by silence. The maroon and gold power play goal eventually credited to Zebro to close the gap to 2-1 got the crowd onto its feet.It was a really wild, really gritty, game. Watching the USA / Gopher rebroadcast right now on the BTN...excellent camera work in this one covering every inch of the ice. I don't know if any change was made but you see all play in the "hidden corner" I complained about in the previous BTN webstream & rebroadcast. However, the picture quality and overall competency of the camera operators has made the end product enjoyable and valuable for me.
I think so. This game is one that comes to mind:I wonder if any USA national team has ever, EVER before played a game on USA soil where the USA team was not a clear favorite of the majority of the fans.
I'll be there, hopefully with one guest on Friday and two on Saturday.Role Call! Who's making the trek to Bemidji?
I just hope you don't get plugged by any goalie moms.Edit: Maybe we'll even get a plug on the live blog.
