Going to Pittsburgh

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

Yes, and the chatter is that the area just east of the arena is the most iffy. In light of this, does anyone have any parking suggestions? Again, a local person would likely be in the best position to answer...

There's parking where the Igloo once stood, as well as a parking garage at Chatham Center, both right across the street from Consol.

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

Appreciate that.

Still, I presume that parking spaces will be at a premium on Thursday afternoon. Getting that close might prove to be a challenge, though a very early arrival might do the trick. Any good park and ride options?

Not sure about park and ride. FYI, the Chatham Center garage is pretty big. It's usually $20 for Pens games.

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

Most up to date Friday weather forecast.

Day: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. Chance of precipitation is 40%
Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32.

Sounds good; Chatham Center Garage will be my Plan A. Thanks again for the replies.
Worst case, there is a ton of parking near PNC, Heinze field and the carnegie museum. A bit further of a walk, or you can take the train over.

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

I thought about box seats but I'm not really into either team. Plus I might catch a home run ball :p

I just really love club seats most of the time. Don't care one way or another about either team, so getting the best "experience" in the park was my goal.

Now we just need to hope that we don't get rained out :(

Sounds like a good Plan B. I've actually ridden the train from South Hills to PNC. But I don't have any memory of the stop at/near Consol. Is that stop clearly identified? If not, do you remember the name of the station?

There is value. Thanks in advance.

I've been annoyed w a stomach bug... My apologies for not ill owing through... This is what I get for taunting the stomach bug when I said I hadn't gotten it in over 15 yrs.

I'm doing fine though

Edit: priceless, you forgot octonion coming in and acting like he was introducing fire to the Neanderthals.

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

OK, I've added every event where I believe alcohol will be present. if you want me to add the fan fest stuff let me know, otherwise I'm leaving it out. If you know of other related events that are generally open to the public that are tied to the Frozen Four post it and I will update this list.

I was thinking you could go to Steel Plaza or near it, and then walk a couple blocks.

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

This bar is half a block from my hotel. Look for me passed out on the floor after too many of those beers.

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

So, uh, here's a question: my flight to Pittsburgh tomorrow is on a regional jet. The weather forecast for tomorrow afternoon calls for scattered thunderstorms both here and in Pittsburgh. The last time I was scheduled for a flight on a regional jet was for a trip up to Montreal last summer, and my flight got canceled due to thunderstorms. For the Frozen Four in St. Louis, I was scheduled to fly out on a regional jet and my flight got canceled due to unsafe wind conditions. So I'm a bit concerned that the weather tomorrow might screw up my travel. (Despite the fact that the info from Delta currently says that the flight will be on time.) So my question is: is there anything I can do at this point to be proactive about the possibility of delays, or do I just wait and see what happens tomorrow?

I doubt you will have a problem. A lot of airlines use regional planes going in to Pittsburgh.

I've been delayed by a couple hours due to a snow storm both in Det and Pit, but we still took off and made it safely. I would be surprised if you were outright cancelled.

eta: Also looking at the weather here for wednesday, its just isolated showers, not a full on storm. So at least on this end you should be ok.

Yeah, I guess I'm just a little paranoid because of that Montreal trip last summer. It was a Friday-Sunday trip and their "solution" was to rebook my outbound leg on Sunday morning. Thanks. We wound up driving instead.

Seriously, it's a four-hour car ride. Why would you ever think to fly this? In fact, I just looked it up, it's 3 hours, 54 minutes to drive from DC to PIT. The shortest flight I could find on kayak.com was 3 hours, 20 minutes because you have to make connections in either Cincinnati or New York.

Confounding.

Because all the options I thought were available more pricey. 1 way car trips are more expensive.

That being said, I realized two things after I booked.

1. Dollar does it for cheap.
2. I could have called one of the rental car agencies if I could get some deal on the back and forth nature of the trip (DCA --> PIT, PIT-->DCA). I'm sure the big reason the prices are like that are because they can and the inherent imbalance that may occur.

edit: jmh, I had to spend dec 26th in a jamaica queens hotel... not doing that again, so help me god.

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

FWIW- I started a "meet posters" thread on the main board. Figure we should get together between games.
