GO FOR GOLD - USA/Can - 2009 Four Nations Final

Re: GO FOR GOLD - USA/Can - 2009 Four Nations Final

While I really don't have any quarrel with what anybody else is saying about the game last Saturday, what bothered me about the benching of Vetter in the gold medal gamme was that it gave me flashbacks to Salt Lake City--Ben Smith's boneheaded insistence that Tueting and DeCosta were interchangable, culminating in his benching of Tueting in the gold medal game.

And yeah, I am annoyed that the U.S. lost, even if it was just the 4 Nations Cup. But I suppose I'd really be sweating if the Canadians had managed to beat Vetter.
I'm annoyed too. And I'd rather they beat Vetter at 4Nations than in the Olympics. I disagree with Mark's move....but I suppose he's the coach....I haven't lost my faith yet.

Always interesting to notice the volume of posts in a win vs. loss situation.

I think this is part of it -- when our team wins, we grudgingly admit that the coaches know more than we do. Once they lose, the seeds of doubt are planted. Coaches know billions of things about their team that we are clueless concerning, from who has looked great/terrible in practice to which player was in bed with a 102-degree fever a few hours before the puck dropped. And of course outside the odd person who wanders onto this board with an acute knowledge of the game beyond watching their progeny for years, they really do understand the game better. We are powerless most of the time regarding the fate of our team; our grumbling is one of the few actions we are permitted.:o
