Not sure I'd want to be traveling to Moscow if I was on record as strongly critical of Putin. Not without a Geiger counter and a food taster.

This summer, Kiev. 2016, forward to Warsaw.

In Putin's Russia, the band puts you back together.

The Poles aint goin' back.

I learned something interesting about eastern European politics, last summer, talking to a friend of my wife who now works for a Neocon think tank but used to surreptitiously run supplies to Solidarity in the 80s. He's an old school hardline Pole -- the kind of guy who thinks JP2 was "too liberal" -- and he's got an encyclopedic knowledge of Polish history, and what I learned is... Poles really, really, hate Ukrainians. In general Eastern Europe is a war of all against all where the two universal donor enemies are the bosch and the moskal, but the Poles, the Ukrainians, the Ruthenians, the Silesians, the Sorbs ("who are the Sorbs?") all seem to reserve their worst hatred for one another.

Anyway, the Ukrainians are screwed, but for a variety of reasons the Poles are going to be an unaligned buffer state that plays both sides against each other. They're the new Austria.

ZOMG ur turning into flaggy tin foil hat derka derka muhammad jihad!

There are many differences between the link joecct provided and the links you generally provide. First, this one doesn't call for all TRUE PATRIOTS to gun down those illegally searching planes. Second, it had quotes and interviews with government authorities to discuss the use and intent of the surveilance flights.

Let me guess, the government authorities are saying "Remain calm, all is well" like they're Kevin Bacon or something.

This has been a pretty good day all around.

All McConnell got out of this exercise was causing Republican senators to revolt along with Rand Paul and provide him with a massive leadership defeat. His amendments—to gut the privacy advisory board to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, to extend the transition of data retention to the telecoms from six months to one year, and to require that telecoms notify the government 6 months in advance of changes in data retention and that the Director of National Intelligence certify that the program transitions successfully—all failed with comfortable margins on simple majority votes. This was a remarkable and embarrassing miscalculation on McConnell's part, from his insistence that the Patriot Act be extended without reforms to his attempt to bully both the Senate and the House.

The result is he forced the three expiring Patriot Act provisions to be shut down. He gave a huge platform to Rand Paul and in the future to Ted Cruz to use opposition to him in their presidential bids. He needlessly alienated other Republicans and further poisoned his relationship with the House leadership. It's as massive a disaster in leadership as we're used to seeing in the House! It's also unthinkable that McConnell's predecessor from the other side—Harry Reid—could have ever bungled anything so thoroughly.

I really could not care less what the implications are for GOP unity or Mitch's leadership. The key here is after cowering under the bed for 14 years, the US just took the first little baby step towards putting its big girl panties on again.

I'm surprised you aren't gushing about Rand, seeing as he is the one leading this issue.
