Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

To suggest that your religion gets to decide what is acceptable to publish is just beyond me. I was completely speechless.

You're sure you want to go down this path?

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

Man, there was a guy on All In with Chris Hayes (I think they said he was the director of the Islamic center in new york*). He said that we as a society need to start to look at publishing the image of Mohammad as unacceptable as using the N word

So far, that seems perfectly reasonable to me, as a request for understanding. Imagine that we had a "satirical" newspaper here that published cartoons in which black people were called "n**rs" depicted as sitting around eating watermelon and fried chicken, or yearning for loose shoes, tight p*ssy, and a warm place to take a dump. There'd be plenty of outrage over that. You can't even say "here are words you cannot say, one of which is n**r" without offending people.

He said that the overall welfare of the community needs to be balanced with free speech

Now that could be interpreted as a veiled threat!

If a crazy person with Tourette's went into an inner city neighborhood and started calling everyone he met a "n**r", even then, it wouldn't be okay for people to kill him, no matter how offended they might be. In a civilized society, we use moral suasion, not threats of physical violence, to enforce conformity with social norms.

Nah, they're white.

That's the best way to give terrorists the middle finger. And just think. they didn't even need to murder 100k people to do it.

Never thought I'd see a day where the French were braver than we.

Nor did they need to loot any liquor stores, or burn any cars.

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

I recall reading an article several months ago in which the author asked "what's the matter with Palestinian mothers?"

The mothers in question were celebrating the death of their children as martyrs to "the cause." There is something really wrong on a fundamental biological level for a mother to be glad that her child died, it is a total perversion of the innate maternal instinct to protect her young.

Probably one of the best ways in the long run for us to combat terrorism purportedly in the name of Islam is to promote women's rights worldwide, ceaselessly and tirelessly and persistently for a really, really long time in a sustained and consistent way.

Nor did the vast majority of protestors in the states.

When Muslims attack a French newspaper = All Muslims are evil
When Blacks kill a police officer = all Blacks (and their liberal brethren!) are evil
When a white guy kills people = a lone wolf with mental problems

Ding Ding Ding. Mel, we have a winner. Tell him what he's won!!!

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

You're going to defend the censorship of the Catholic Church (starting with Mary Magdalene) and the religious nuts in our own country that try to censor books every year?

I wouldn't defend one, why would I defend the other? You're ascribing motives and actions onto people (Slap Shot) in these threads for stances they've never taken.

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

I wonder if any of these terrorists who cite "Islam" as the justification for their actions realize what a wimp their Allah is. He is such a weakling that he can't stand a word of criticism? and He is so powerless that he cannot defend Himself, so that they have to do it for Him?

How pathetic.

Why would anyone want to "worship" such a feeble God?

You realize Allah is the same God you worship, right? Jews, Christians, and Muslims all worship the God of Abraham.

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

You're going to need to explain this.

The way the US reacted to 9/11 was our finest hour neither as the land of the free nor the home of the brave. It was the equivalent of Jameis Winston's rape victim firebombing the entire FSU campus.

I retract the dig on the French, though. One thing the centennial of WW1 has pounded home is how incredibly brave the French were. Like the Russians during WW2, they took a savage beating but didn't fold. By the time the next war rolled around they were simply running on empty -- they really didn't have a choice against Hitler. I don't blame them for surrendering. (Smiling and waving while the Germans deported the French Jews to be murdered is a whole different matter.)

You do realize France would do the same thing we did, but for a lack of an army as big as ours, right?

Otherwise, they have just as much of an anti-Islam sentiment as we do, if not more so. They just don't have the muscle to act on it.

No society has reached civilization under this definition. More's the pity, since I agree with you that it's what we should aim for.
