Wrong. Though going to you for advice about religion is about the same as going to Pope Francis for advice about sex.

Their Allah abides no competition. That's no God, that's an idol. With them, we're back in the Old Testament, in which each tribe's god battles every other tribe's god using the tribes as proxies. in today's world, that's demented.

You seem to think that the Allah of a terrorist is the same Allah as the one worshiped by Al-Sisi or Al-Sistani. Devout Muslims, they both rejected that sentiment. I'll take their word for it over yours.

and as for me personally,

"The Way that can be spoken of
Is not the Constant Way."

so that you are now 0 for 2.

The French far right is insanely anti-Islam, just like ours is. The difference has been they haven't put them in power. Yet. The Le Pens are always out there, snarling and drooling for fascist powers, just like our own loveable knuckleheads like Giuliani.

I was actually going to defend them, because I thought the thesis was a police description of the murder suspects ought to include skin color as a way of helping ID those specific individuals. But then I read this:

Um, no. How you can be utterly wrong on an uncontested point of basic theology and still claim to have anything of value to add to the conversation is adorable.

The Abrahamic religions all worship the same God. The Jews are release 1.0, the Christians are 2.0, and the Muslims are 3.0, but it's all the same product.

Are you referring to the Duke humor magazine case? Honestly curious, since it is dead on point.

In the early 80s (I think), the Duke (I think) humor magazine had a cover with a black kid sitting in an outhouse, wearing enormous slippers, and choking a cat. It was (obviously) a parody of American and in particular rural and in very particular Earl Butz' virulent racism. And it provoked a huge protest... against the cover. That was pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back concerning how clueless people can be.

Sounds like there are TWO hostage situations in different parts of Paris. There are the two brothers who have taken refuge in an industrial area with at least one hostage. Then there's another two people (man and woman) who have killed two people and taken another five hostages in a heavily Jewish part of Paris.

It could be with the way I wrote it, but that was an unintentional error on my part. He wasn't threatening anyone like that. It was more of a, "Well, if you're going to publish these images, you're going to have to expect these kinds of reactions from the fringe."

God is really inviting theological competition into the Jews' hearts here, isn't he?

And to argue that Islam worships a different god than the Jews and Christians is just complete nonsense. Do some research, they all come back to the same foundation, only one group's waiting for the Messiah, the second group thinks it found the promised Messiah, and third group relies upon the Prophet Mohammed in how to honor God (the prophet who himself was a Jew).

Basic theological fact is that God of Abraham = Jehovah = Yahweh = Allah. Claiming its not is simply ignoring historical fact. The interpretations clearly differ, even among each branch, but it's still the same God.

Edit: and for a Taoist, you sure do complain about the war on Christmas a lot...

Gotcha. I guess I disagree because we haven't seen the French reaction after the dust settles. After 9/11, I seem to recall a similar reaction. A small percentage people acting out of rage against Muslims (or people thought to be Muslims) and a lot of vigils. It was the weeks, months, and years after 9/11 that we amped up our role as world police. Frankly, I had and still have no issue with us going after Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Me neither. I have big problems with the occupation, but they are not ideological.moral as much as strategic/pragmatic.

Iraq was PNAC's plan from the mid 90's. 9/11 was just a pretext. Iran was next on the menu but we stopped them in 2008 before they could do it.

I quickly changed my tune on Iraq after I realized we were completely hoodwinked (I was young and stupid). I'm still on the fence regarding the occupation of Afghanistan. I'm not smart enough to think of an alternative given what technology we had at the time. If we had our current drone arsenal back in 2001, I would have preferred a sort of remote occupation.
