What I've been reading is it wasn't a stated directive to stand down, but rather the unconscious effects of four years of Trump browbeating everyone in government who dared to even intimate that Dumpie was wrong.

Agents and departments were reluctant to issue warnings about supporters of the president, to investigate such people, as they knew it was potential career suicide. Now yeah, that's a pretty cowardly stance, your career comes before doing your job keeping the country safe, but you know, Trump.

So they kinda kept their heads down about potential white terrorism, and just hoped the chit wouldn't hit the fan. But yeah, now they know they effed up, and they're in full CYA mode. Which could have potential benefits, as they may be incentivized to go after these guys hard now.

It's the Chilling Effect, like when CIA analysts were hesitant to pass intelligence countering the (fraudulent) Cheney narrative up the chain.

And this is why there has to be better insulation of law enforcement, defense, and intelligence from the political machinations of partisans. Think of how badly we have been compromised on defense and intel because Dump owed his seat to Putin.

Yes the silver lining will be the FBI will go extra hard to make up for the mistake. We need Gene Hackman from Mississippi Burning running this stuff!
 
I wouldnt say Trump did because he often forced one out. They used it to their advantage not the other way around.

This is a hallmark of authoritarian regimes. Dear Leader is always paranoid of any developing rival power center so he wants his lieutenants at each others' throats.

Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, and the North Korean regime all deliberately played their second tier leadership against each other like this and had constant churn.

Organized crime is also like this.

But again Trump was smart enough to actually do that. Most authoritarians use it to their advantage...he did not. He let them go free to create more mischief and it caused more harm than good for him.
 
Our friends who live in the city are tweeting photos of the streets outside their homes.

They look like Chechnya. Soldiers everywhere, troops transport trucks, insanely tense atmosphere. And we still have 100 hours to go.

I will be so happy when all these Dumpy terrorists either go to their trailer parks, federal prison, or the Ark Encounter Theme Park in the sky.

Ok, this is a funny tangent- I didn't realize you were replying to my point about dumpy using people who dislike each other....

But what I did think when you wrote "he often forced one out" more reminded me that the White House is getting disinfected top to bottom....... Ok, it's funny to me, at least, in a Bevis and Butthead way.

I had the same reaction until I read further down the thread.

Males are all 13-year olds who get degrees, jobs, spouses, kids, and fat, but we are still 13-year olds.

With Trump I imagine it's always a crapshoot between having to force one out or opening the valve on a 3000psi pressure washer
