No. Not Jake.
When the story first broke CNN reported the "suspect" jumped from the vehicle and shouted "God is Great!" in Arabic.

Tell the audience they shouted "God is Great" and it's "Southern Baptists Gone Wild: NYC Edition!"; tell the audience the direct quote, as shouted, in Arabic, and they know who and what is happening, as much as they hate to admit it.

Be honest with yourself: Anyone runs into the room shouting one and you're merely annoyed, but shouting the other and you're diving for cover.

Being honest, if someone on here came in yelling that, I'd assume they're trying to do a racist joke.

Funny thing is, it's yelled during an overwhelming majority of these attacks; even Tapper's admitting that in the sub-text of his comments. And yet, it constantly gets covered up. Either they're trying to pull a "nothing to see here", and/or it makes more than Sicatoka cower in the manner you describe.

To be fair, if you're at a Pakistani wedding and you hear somebody speaking English you should probably grab your kids, run like hell, and try not to look like a target for the fine Raytheon drone bearing down on you.

If you're in Bumblef-ck, Mississippi and somebody's screaming in Arabic you should probably run. If you're in a place where human beings live like NYC, it just means your tax attorney is arguing with your dentist in a cab on the way to Falafel Hut.

Be situationally aware; know your surroundings. Sure, in your favorite "-istan" you're going to hear it as it should be used, praising Allah. But yeah, if you hear it in Omaha or NYC ... most likely not the same.

Pakistanis speak English - at least the cricket players I've heard interviewed.

Yeah, in Omaha it's most likely a redneck acting like a redneck doing his best impersonation of an A-rab with his drunken buddies. In NYC it's most likely a taxi driver.

I find it hilarious that the North Dakotan is more scared than actual New Yorkers.

Asking people to be situationally aware and understand what's going on around them? You bet.

I hear it all the time. Never once freaked out.

I do too.
When I'm volunteering at the center for new Americans in Fargo* and see someone grab the prayer rug it ain't no thing.
But say someone comes running crazed into the room screaming it one day ... not the same.

Situationally aware.


*They needed someone who can help with math and physics and I'm a nice guy. And before you scoff, 15 South 21st Street.
